So, we moved house recently...our first own home together, Lemonchili and I. An amazing feeling to not have to worry about satanic real estate agents, landlords, etc. Paint whatever...hang pictures wherever...you get the point, very cool.
It's going to take a lot of hard work between us, as we have decided to do most of the renovating ourselves, and are lucky enough to have discovered that we can actually do stuff like this without killing each other in the process.
Exhibit A...our new fences(very proud)...

fence

However, one of our concerns was the new neighbours we would encounter. A big thing when you have to live next to them indefinitely! We have a Lab and a Rotty, which usually doesn't strike the best chord with people either. So, we being the naturally awesome neighbourly people that we are, made acquaintance with the newbies on either side, hoping for the best.
It turns out that the neighbours are quite nice. On one side there is a beautiful big fluffy cat that finds much amusement in tormenting our dogs by standing just out of reach on the other side of the fence. We have nicknamed him 'foreman', as he comes and lays on the grass whenever we are working on the new fences, and just watches.
But on the other side we have a couple of young guys who are very cool. Their yard consists of a massive four bay garage(complete with spraybooth) and room for the other 4 cars they keep there! They have been kind enough to store one of our cars there until we have built our garage(lifesavers).
As for the dog issue, when we got there, this was what we saw on the other side of the fence looking back...

sara

A female the same age as our male, and very keen on getting to know him too ; )
Just when I thought it was all good...this turned up...Lol!!

Grats on the house. My wife and I did the same thing....sort of, only we found out we could do all of the work, but we really didn't want to. I'd rather be riding and it is so much like......well.......WORK.

Yep, it gets a bit daunting at times. Most of the frustration is caused by other people though. The amount of fricken red tape you have to cut through to get the right person's approval for something...
We have a builder doing the main stuff, but we are helping him and doing the smaller scale things like..garage, fencing, landscaping, decking etc. Will be good to stand back from the finished product and say "we did this".

congrats on the new to you house! i know exactly what you are going thru. we just bought a new to us house as well. it has been all consuming. i have had almost no ride time this year so far. but the good thing is i can see the finnish line. i did a complete kitchen remodel. the only thing left to do in there now is wire up the plugs then it will be done. then we get the fun part of moving!.....
we also have really great neighbors. they are quickly becoming good friends.

here is a pic of what has consumed all of my time this summer. the only thing i did not do myself in the kitchen is the countertop.

before

after

Vamps, so what all are you two doing to your house? pics are a must!

JD, that kitchen looks awesome!

Congrats on the new house vamp! And good neighbors make life grand.

I have a mixture. Mostly good, one across the street is a nut-bag who has no control over his temper, but cowers at the first sight of confrontation. The one behind me threatened to kill me because I told him not to trow his grass clippings into my yard. That was an interesting day to say the least.

But, all of the other neighbors are a joy. We all laugh at the crazy ones.

That kitchen looks sweet. Oldog the tile on the wall is a backsplash. Some can get quite gawdy but this one looks excellent.

So Vamps or Chili is your new neighbor a Badweb addict also? Congrats on the purchase.

Nice work Jimduncan, that looks like it would've taken ages!

Thanks for the kind words all : ). The red tape has been really frustrating - lots of people saying what you can't do, not many suggesting what you can do. But hopefully certification approval will be done this week and we the builder can start the week after.

The house is a little three bed workers cottage. We are adding a living room at the back and a garage at the front.

Beginning of the year:

house 1

Last weekend when we finished the front side fences:

house 2

The yellow XB belongs to neighbours brother or brother-in-law I think, I'll have to find out if he's a BadWebber. Oh, and the old guy behind us rides, and is a a fitter and turner or toolmaker... with his own little machine shop : D
cheers,
chili

jim, the tile on my backsplash is tumbled marble laid in a random pattern.

Chili, thanks we are very proud of it. it has taken me about 2 months of working in my spare time to get it to this point. it will be finished tomorrow.
it looks like you got a pretty sweet little pad there. is there room to put the recording studio in there? now you know it is a requirement to post pics of every bit of progress. so all of your nosy fellow bedwebbers can see what you are doing.

You should be proud!

Yep, one room will be "music room/studio", complete with lava lamp, and another room will be V's work room for her florist work. She graduates in about 4 weeks, and may start running a florist business from home.
I'm sure we'll post heaps of pics over the next few months : ).

That kitchen makeover does look awesome! Straight out of a glossy magazine. A builders pinup centrefold Lol!
Not sure if our renos will be as spectacular, but definitely make the place more 'us'. Will post pics as we go. Once the outside and initial buildings are complete, I can't wait to roll up my sleeves with a paint tin and some inside decorating ideas : )

Woohoo!!!! The rusty wheels of bureaucracy are slowly turning... I just found out our BOS application to the council has finally been approved!
We signed contract with the builder on tuesday night, so it looks like everything is set for him to start building week after next : D

As a bonus the council finally cut down the tree on the nature strip this morning where the new driveway goes.
