Hans,

That one is likely to contain one of the new worms in the attachment. The attachment is password protected to keep many anti virus software packages from being able to scan and remove the attachment. We have been getting hit with that very heavily at UT.

Yes, the mis-spelling gives gives it away, but I got almost trapped. Once the Red alert on, the original name of my provider`s website at the end of the message was presumed as being fake. Beware, don`t push the button or paste and copy, but use your own bookmark, or type the address of your provider in the address header, when you want to contact them.

Also, i got a spoof email, *claiming* to be from paypal, that my account was changed to "limited access", with a link to correct this. I logged onto paypal directly, and found my account was operating normally. The email appeared to be a spoof.

Be aware, watch your back, and know how to type a url on your own..i bet if i had used the link, I would have gone to a page that appeared to be legit, followed the directions, and then my paypal account would have been compromised...not good if its linked to your only cash flow (yea, i know thats not smart either...)

TRUST NO ONE!

IF you're using Internet Explorer check here to see if your version is vulnerable to the url spoof bug - good chance it is unless you've updated recently, and then run Window Update to grab the fix (also available as this patch from Microsoft's site.

So if I get "action cancelled" I gather my explorer is okay?

Does the "bagle virus" come with cream cheese or does that have to be ordered separately?

Andy I believe the "action cancelled" means you're good to go. Don't have IE at home to test.

Hi Andy, Don`t ask me difficult questions: I have excluded myself from the guys who you call good. My learning processes develop normally by walking fast and be trapped in every loophole along the road, but to crawl out. Seems me more efficient than moving boring slow, avoiding all possible risks.
Bagle is for me a loaded word. Saw it for the first time, when there was an heated discussion because a certain HD director was called a fat bagel eater. Saw it next time on a board at our railway station on a snackbar, who advertised with bagels, being just sandwiches. Good. People buying bagels seem me to having nothing in common, apart that it are mostly youngsters who buying bagels along the road, as usual with all kinds of food and drinks. Time will learn me the hidden facts about eating bagles or bagels. Calling the name of the virus is somewhat risky, (look at former discussion) but I think that the virus is called "bagle" because it has so many disguises and tastes, that everybody will set it teeth in it, sooner or later, without the strongest warning.
So, when you ask if cream cheese will be included: YES, all you like will be included.
And for the ultimate delicate epicurists: Even a password will be included to be able to open the parcel.
Apart from that I am now trapped in catch 22.
Norton system works was expiring and I paid for an update. Got a list with applicable numbers which would be valid for 14 days. The only thing I had to do, was to push on the live updater and to fill in the new number. The live updater keeps saying that all is fully updated, so I get no chance to update. Had to update the live updater: Done and the same results: All Norton products on your computer are up to date. In the meanwhile I keep getting the messages at the start up, that my virus definitions are out of date, and they are indeed. Read all kinds of help files and searched for a call desk to get a human being on a phone line. Nope: You have to buy a 29 $$ service packet, which will you give live on line service.
All those sophisticated successive help files are ending invariably at the Norton Sales Department. More than 14 days have already passed since. Phew.

As for the Nortons thing: Just use the control panel to erase the Nortons program from your hard drive and then use the original disk to reinstall it and you get another free year of updates. Or so I've been told, I mean it's not that I would ever do such a low down dirty rotten thing. My shifty brother-in-law might but not not me.

Hi Ray. Thanks for your commitment. Mmm. You seem to presume I have an original disk. Well: Good guess. You are really good. I did even register it. But I don`t know if Norton is that easy to remove: It has changed even names in my mailing program into nortonpop3, or something, to reroute incoming and outgoing emails through its safety doors.
