Big thread about this bike over on advrider. Supposedly all-new V4 Honda sport tourer, 1200cc, 2010 model. Pics revealed on MCN (UK mag) today:

It looks interesting. I'm sure other pics will turn up shortly.

or be way expensive.

A CBR1000RR is almost 25% more than a GSXR or ZX10 here.

Same disparity up thar?

I don't think Honda has quite that big of a price premium in the States. In fact, I just looked and a CBR1000RR is a mere US$100 more than a GSX-1000R. Now, that is just MSRP, so what happens on the sales floor may be different, but I don't think so.

This is no doubt yet another new VFR rumor, which have been flying for years now. I hope they do it - the bike is overdue, but I'll believe it when I see it on Honda's website.

and MCN has published other "exclusive" pics of the new VFR on various occasions over the past 18 mos. or so. Last time it was a V5 iteration. Pure puffery and PhotoShop.

As Mark says, believe it when it's on the Honda website.

Americans aren't big enough suckers to pay a big premium for a Honda over other good makes.

We reserve that type of stupidity for BMWs and Harleys.

When it comes to new Honda V4s, I'll believe it when I see it . . . at the dealership.

We've been hearing rumors of a new Honda V4 for years now, and nothing has happened. Even the VFR hasn't had a meaningful upgrade since 1998.

The US doesn't represent a significant enough market for most of the Honda line-up.

Where are the Verederos?

Where are the other dual sports?

We don't get the other marquee's full line either.

Well, the bike is definitely real, as evidenced by these spy photos on an auto forum:

http://www.leftlanenews.com/honda-v4.html

(link found on advrider).

Like FB says though, no guarantee they'll bother to bring it to the U.S.

Judging by the styling of the tail, I'd say that's the next gen VFR, assuming there is such a thing.

If I had to guess, and this is pure speculation, this bike we see would replace the current VFR (which have in the states) and the Blackbird (which is only still available outside the U.S.), and would be U.S. marketed bike.

But again - until it's on the Honda website, I'm not putting stock in anything.

There are a ton of cool bikes that will never reach our shores. Most for reasons far beyond simple customer demand.

I like these at the moment

What the heck happened to Honda? Not from the quality or innovation standpoint ( I like the concept having been a VFR owner), but the styling practices. It's like 1997 got it's foot caught in a damn gopher hole and Honda's too busy listening to a Walkman to notice.

Pretty good collection of info here:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1017 4762&postcount=124

Greenlantern- regarding innovation, it does evidently have a variable cylinder configuration (2/4 cylinders active). Weirdest thing yet- the front cylinder head is SOHC; the rear is DOHC to accommodate the mechanism required to shut down the rear cylinders.

Wow way to over complicate it Honda. Buells have been having cylinder deactivation for years at no extra cost. Just take a lot of short trips without letting the bike warm up or turn it on, rev the motor and turn it off. Instant thumper. : )

>>What the heck happened to Honda?<<

I get to ride most of them. Apart from price issues down here, they are making some outstanding and innovative vehicles of good quality.

The CB1000R was second in my personal 08 Bike of the year ratings.

HDs have heat management systems that are able to be switched on and off by the rider.

CB1000R is a sweet looking/sounding bike. Problem here is if it is a naked bike and doesn't say Triumph on it it seems like they just don't sell well enough to stay here. Lack of advertising mostly I think. We lose out on quite a few really cool bikes because of this nations love affair with Cruisers and Rockets and very few in between bikes. I hope that trend continues to change.

Shaft drive is interesting, wheelbase looks long.... Replacement for the Blackbird? Or ST1300? (Do you get them in the U.S.?) Or is the VFR800 growing and putting more "tour" in sport-tourer?

I'm a big fan of Honda V4's, though I've never owned one. Not a real fan of the styling of this one or the last couple of VFR800's.

(I have crashed a V4 though, but that's another story... ; ) )

Doh. Just noticed "New Pan-European" on the cover, so not an ST replacement.

The VFR has been Honda's "Looky what we can do!!!" platform for YEARS. Technology that serves no useful purpose as far as I'm concerned.

Lately both BMW and Honda seem to be trying to outdo each other with useless technology that does nothing but add to the expense of the motorcycle.

At least Buell's technology serves a PURPOSE.

Useless technology today, in a few years from now you won't be able to live without. For examples see front brakes, GPS, pizza oven.
