I'm not sure Matt will recover

Matt may not have recovered, but he's coming back for Buelltoberfest! I don't think he scares that easily.

Not at all.
Matt's seen his share of scary things, even been victim to more than a few.
Yet, he's still in the game.
All the years I've known him he's been in the hospital every April.
This past April he broke the trend instead of himself!

Glitch - different Matt! We're talking about Guell. He was with Oldog to pick Danny's bike up from Richard Russell Road and then get the two of us from the hospital.

I rode my Blast today! Carlos and I spent about an hour in the school lot and rode a whole 5 miles!! It was so much fun.

I worked on starts and stops, ride the oval left (felt like a Nascar driver!), ride the oval right, figure 8s, ride down the center for Carlos to decide which way to go and then come to a stop. After these drills I did manage to ride far enough to get into 2nd gear, come to a stop and back into 1st.

While it was a lot of fun, it's a lot to think about and do at the same time. I really thought since I started out driving a stick shift that the motorcycle wouldn't be too much different, WRONG! I think the biggest thing is the two controls for the brakes.

I had the stock seat on and could reach, but I was on tippytoes when I had to walk the bike back to the starting position. I think the low seat will give me the added security I want to know that I can not only get my feet down, but have some room for forgiveness if I need it.

The other issue I have is that I have a little foot, so reaching the brake pedal and shifter was interesting. My toes just do reach the pedal and get under the shifter. Going to do some research on the Thumper Forum and see what suggestions they might have.

Tomorrow I want to play with just the rear brake for a few stops to really get a feel for how much is there. I kept feeling like I was going past the stopping point and then would grab too much front brake. While I never felt that I was going to drop the bike, it would nose dive when I grabbed too much front brake. Gotta find the balance there. Good thing I was only going 10 mph!

The other thing I have to work on is keeping my head up and looking out. I got a little better at that as the hour went on, but I would catch myself looking directly in front of the bike and then end up going wide. I would get it together again and do much better on the next lap.

Guess we'll see what tomorrow brings! Until then, here is a quick picture before changing into gear and heading to school. My expression is "excuse me" while Carlee is asking if I'm really going to do this and that she's scared....please!

Just awesome! Go Kristi! You can do it!

I'm going to see if I can get Sandy to read this thread. She went through the same thing a few years ago.

Make sure you drop the bike in the grass a couple of times. That way you can learn to pick it up if you happen to tip it over in your mother-in-laws driveway!

Uh-o.....I probably should not have brought that up.....

Most excellent Kristi!

Congrats to you (and Carlos) for having the courage and conviction to begin this exciting new journey. You'll find your motorcycling "Zen" soon enough; like any other skill/art, it takes a little practice (and a lot of desire).

I suspect for most of us it's been a long, long time since we felt the heady sense of exhilaration that you're feeling right now as a brand-new rider. Fun stuff!! : )

I think we need to make that a lot of practice! Got in another 5 miles tonight before I came to work. Still need to work on starts and stops. I'm too hesitant on the gas at take offs and I've got to get in the habit of putting my left foot down, not my right. There's a lot to keep up with. Good thing I'm in the parking lot alone. Lord knows what will happen when I have to use my mirrors!

Carlos has the camera, maybe he'll post up some pics of me actually riding. It was hot, but still a lot of fun.

Since you're out own your own on a Blast you might need to change your Bedweb name to Shebethumpin

Thanks Glitch!

Change my name? Then Carlos couldn't be Mr. Ulywife!

Frank - please let us know when you'll be in NC. We'll plan something, right or wrong!

Last night as we were packing it in, the local police rode through and stopped. They didn't say anything to us, but watched to see what we were doing. Tonight we are planning to go to the high school. It's a larger parking lot and it's in the town that I work in. So when the police show up, it will be my guys coming to the call! Maybe I'll see 3rd gear.

Carlee took the camera to school today so I can't post pics from last night. I promise they are coming!

Proof that I can actually ride...not that I'm ready to leave the parking lot yet! Got a little frustrated tonight. The perfectionist in me came out. I was determined to get all elements of the drill before we left. I think I pulled it off once. More practice this week.

Looking great Kristi! I hear you about the getting frustrated but hang in there, the more you ride/practice the easier it gets. I'm not sure if it was more frustrating for me learning to ride or now starting all over after several years of being the passenger but it sure feels good to be on my own again. : )

Hey Kristi did you take the class yet? If you haven't you'll be leaps and bounds ahead of everybody else there attending. I know, when I get a female who says they practiced before I know they will be alright!
Perfectionist can make it harder for anyone, step down from expecting to do it the right way first to.....it is Possible to do this, you just have to learn the way to get there. No hi demands on yourself just have fun! : ) K

Kathy - I've paid for my class! I'm scheduled for the last week in June - it's gonna be HOT! I've already decided to take several shirts, my mesh jacket and Carlos' camelback full of water.

It's a lot to take it. I'm amazed that after 2 1/2 days of class if you pass the test then you're "free" to ride the roads. I think I'll stick to the parking lot for a while. Luckily enough we do have some back roads close to home that have very little traffic on them for when I get brave enough to leave the lot. My first challenge will be getting out of our driveway!

I'll keep you posted. Carlos and Carlee are heading for a weekend camping trip with the youth group so I probably won't be able to ride again until next week.

Glitch - that photoshop is too funny! If I start doing that (minus the fire!), watch out!
