Tonight I had to head out to get some petrol for the bike.

As I live in the city, I have to leave to city to get fuel.

The station I like is about 10 minutes out of town, just off I-5.

As I was cruising down I-5 there was little traffic out (11pm) but I had this feeling someone was behind me. A quick glance in the fuzzy mirrors, and the closest traffic was easily 1000 ft behind.

Out of nowhere a red honda motorcycle shot right past me. I was doing close to 80mph, he must have been doing 95+. He had been hiding behind me...
He had NO HEADLIGHTS, no dash lights, no license plate light, just a dim rear brake light.
Of course he was wearing the obligatory squid gear (flash helmet, not much else), with a young petite girl on the back.

It was quite dark out, so I sped up a little to cast some light for him. He wicked it up, so I backed off.

I watched the cars ahead panic brake as he whizzed by.

I was fully prepared to see a corpse laying on the roadway.
I just didn't want to be the one to run him over.

Can we get a little chlorine in the gene pool? : (

Hence my concern, and the attempt to provide at least a little light.

...this is fairly crass, but if she wasn't bright enough to stay away from a motorcycle at night that had no freaking lights, I think she falls under the chlorine statement as well.

Maybe he had an XBR and is unaware of the headlight upgrade.

The one that always gets my panties in a bunch is when you see the guy riding in helmet, jacket, gloves, boots and so on and the girl on the back is in flip flops and shorts. What kind of @$$hole makes sure he's protected, but then lets his girl ride in nothing? I Understand that's it's cute and all to be on the back of a motorcycle in your sexy little shorts, but come on.
Before I had my own bike Sleez never let me ride on his without long pants, real shoes, leather jacket and gloves and of course my helmet.

My hubby and son and I were out riding today, coming down a fairly twisty canyon on wet roads and this squid on a crotch rocket with his other buddies, comes in to our lane, crossing a double yellow, in a curve, to pass several cars. If he had been in our lane just a little bit more, he and my hubby would have been kissing. They were inches from touching handlebars.

Now that's also a squid. Gives us all a bad name.

Ladysleez, That's cause Sleeze cares about you.

Mules try to run legal without attracting attention.

Texastech1, Someone failed at raising their daughter.

I remember picking up a young girl back when I was young and everywhere I stopped the bike she found another drink. I wound up bunjey cording her to me to keep her from hanging half off the bike. I didn't carry extra leathers in case I got lucky.

This was I5 south right by Boeing Field

Now that I have had a chance to sleep on it. I really do think the girl was either a VERY petite asian, or perhaps a child

Ladysleez, I LOVE the username, I think I might have to steal that a new description for my neighborhood "workers" (not a descriptive term for you)

You see this way to often. Just last weekend, the wife and I rode to a motorcycle hang out up in the mountains. Most were Harleys where the women were a least as well protected as the men, not saying much there. But when the sport bikes showed up, here were the guys in helmets, jackets and long pants. The girls on the back wearing helmets and not much else. That just pisses me off. I have told my oldest she better never, then again she probably will be riding her own and has more gear than I do.

I hate seeing this kind of thing. We've had at least 2 moto fatalities in the last 2 weeks here, both the fault of the riders.

If I could ever manage it, I'd photograph the couple and put 'email up on a local billboard for all to see. Public shame used to discourage unacceptable behavior can be extremely effective; it seems to be a lost tool for many parents these days.

About two months ago I got passed by a guy on a sport bike with helmet, t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers. His girlfriend on the back had tank-top, shorts, flip-flops, helmet, and a back protector?!?

If I went down in a tank-top, shorts, and flip-flops, I wouldn't WANT to be wearing a back protector, or even a helmet for that matter. Yikes!

(gsxr 750), it was in the back of his truck a week later, looked like it got drug behind a mack truck.

If squids wanna learn the hard way, let 'em learn. They'll have months to think about it while they're in a body cast and everyone is signing their arms, legs, and head. Assuming they don't meet the Grim Reaper.

Had a guy do that to me Friday on a Harley. I look in my mirror as I rode by him on a side street. Next thing I now he is flying by me and other cars. We were on a two lane highway. Stupid...or ballsy?

I saw a guy the other day on a rice machine (with a color matching green headband) playing ziggy-zag with the dotted yellow center line. He was riding like an absolute idiot. My g-friend asked me why it bothered me so much. My reply was, "He gives all of us responsible riders a bad name". D1ckheads like him are the whole reason for people hating sport bikes!

No Corporatemonkey he chose me and I still can't believe how lucky I am .

Truth of the whole squid matter is that they all truly think they are invincible and so they don't need to wear real gear, what could possibly happen to them?

This weekend I was heading out of town to do some riding. I was very enthusiastically working through Sunday traffic, watching the road and not really paying attention to the specifics of each car I passed.

It wasn't a cop I blew by.

It was my girlfriend.

She WAS NOT amused.

At least I had on all the gear.

Isn't that true. I have a buddy who WAS stationed in HI with the coast guard. Long story short...the guard rail at 120 is not forgiving. He now is able to squeeze his clutch hand just enough to ride again. Only wearing a helmet at the time. Still will not wear gear.

My friend just reported this sighting in North Carolina. Squid on a Suzuki B-King, wearing an expensive, full-face helmet, wife-beater top, shorts, and sneakers (no socks).

As he got closer he realized the bike was clearly dumped on it's side at least once. He also noticed a line of recent scabs running up the guy's leg, arm and shoulder in PERFECT ALIGNMENT with the scrapes on the bike.

Some people are just ASKING for it. With luck, he'll take himself completely out of the gene pool soon...

I have gone on record several times that I don't give a rats ass about irresponsible riders, except that fact that every one of them ends up cost us (me) money.

Every quarter when I get my insurance bill I shake my my head.
I am a (relatively) responsible rider. I don't recklessly speed, I do not drink, no drugs, do not carry ill equipped passengers, etc...

Yet because of every idiot that does, and ends up failing in life, I (we) have to pay via our insurance premiums.

Blake, I like your idea, except you know someone would attempt to take a photo while riding/driving, then cause an accident. Then they would attempt to sue the website.

One summer long, long ago - as you'll notice from the scoot in the story - I decided to be an ATGATT rider after I watched a guy riding a V65 Magna in the dinnertime rush hour freeway traffic around Columbus, Ohio. OH is helmet optional, so you probably guessed it: cheesy sunglasses, 5 inch athletic shorts and running shoes. Not even wearing socks, and in the midst of six lanes of maddened cagers. I wondered what'd happen if he caught a decent-sized beetle, never mind a stone off a nearby tire.

At least cell phones weren't yet common...

Yesterday, NB on the perpetually under construction FL turnpike, during a rainy rush hour, we were passed by a squid on a GSXR, lane splitting (illegal in FL). He was going about 20 mph faster than the traffic which was rapidly coming to a stand still near a major exit. Squidly was sitting up straight, wearing a backpack, only one hand on the handle bar (right hand), his other hand was on his LAP. There were so many things wrong with this scenario, but one question: can someone please explain to me the benefit of the one handed sport bike riding technique? I see it far too much and don't get it.

BeLinda.
