As I scan the news headlines I have come to the conclusion there are just too many humans.

It seems almost every problem can be traced back to over population.

I am not singling out any one group, there are too many of all us.

"The Tragedy of the Commons"- Hardin

I had a girlfriend once who worked extensively in childcare, later with the federal Head Start program in administration (and several other capacities). I have always admired her for her dedication to RAISING and TEACHING her children as best she could. Truly a brilliant woman and a great person.

She postulated this: If we process and treat our drinking water with purifying treatments as well as chlorine and fluoride, etc, why not administer a general birth control measure (sorry, going sci-fi), good for male or female needs.

Folks who reach the age of adulthood and commit to creating a family unit together could go before the judge/justice of peace/magistrate and petition for the antidote. They must prove gainful employment, steady domestic environment (perhaps including an extended family like old times) and a plan to raise the kid thru their 18th year. Military, police, teachers, local farmers, folks who serve our country or our better society get it easier.

Pardon me but youns are turning the sociologist in me back on....

Soylent Green.

I'd like to see a Tarantino remake of that one.

Heck, someone needs to revisit A Clockwork Orange, now that we're on this subject.

Squid, on the surface that sounds like a interesting plan, but you know it would end up being corrupted like out of a sci-fi book.

I sort of like China's one child policy. Simple...

But if people really just sat down and figured out whether they could really afford to raise a child, we wouldn't need any of this.
At least Europe has basically a 0 population growth.

Ah yes, another fine Kubrick production.
If it was to be remade, I would like Ang Lee to do it. If you ever saw "Ice Storm" you will understand why.

phftwt, I got mine done on my 18th birthday. My genes die with me.

I must admit that my family really should have practiced better birth control,
Grandma -8 kids, Parents & Aunts/ Uncles-19 kids, My generation - 31 kids, so far 19 kids from them and 6 great grand kidlets. wtf ?

Its like an econ Venn Diagram gone bad, or a flow chart stuck in a fatal error loop.

Well let me be the first to thank you for your sacrifice for humanity.

Curiosity, how did you ever convince a Dr. to do it at 18? You would have been in the military at that point right?

The problem is that intelligent people choosing not to have kids is NOT going to help the problem; in fact, it's going to make it worse. The problem is not an excess of kids who are provided for by loving parents, given a good education, and taught good values. The problem is an excess of kids with NO upbringing, mediocre or no education, and NO chance of supporting themselves in the world. By choosing not to have kids, you are just making the ratio worse.

Just last week, we had a thread on here saying Europe's on the brink because we're not having enough kids.

If we have less children there's less workers later on to support an aging population.

Birth control is not something that can be easily legislated unfortunately, I agree entirely that there ought to be some sort of selection, but I don't see how it can be achieved. Can you imagine the protests claiming denial of their human rights from those who aren't allowed? You've only got to look at the gay parenting court cases in California to see where that one's going!

I don't have any answers, God's representative thinks he does, but I disagree.

Japan is going to be the point man on that front. They have the fastest growing elderly population on the planet.

Your just full of wise words this week.

The biggest problem with the birth control in the water plan is all the health risks that go along with birth control... the ones the ad agencies like to downplay. Like America needs something else to cause heart problems.

Did you know one common side effect is reduced libido? DAMHIK.
