Could be at least my butt thinks so.  I took a little road trip to KT about 175 miles and after 100 my butt was so hot I had to stop every 50 miles and take a break. Funny thing is I don't remember it being near this bad last year even when it was hotter out. So when I got home I changed the seat back to the stock unit, dropped the saddle bags and then called ODIE and order some heat shields. Next up will be the dreaded Right Side Air Scoop...but $300.00 to find it doesn't do the trick is a bit steep for me. If I can't beat this building it into a Sport tourer will be a waste of money...got to be able to go more than 50 miles. | ||

Birdy- what kind of seat did you put on your bike? I had a seat reworked by Sargent for my S3 a few years ago with high-density foam, and I found the same thing. It transferred MUCH more heat; in the S3's case it was from the oil tank below the seat. You can fix that by covering the bottom of the seat with foil-faced ceramic adhesive-backed insulation, available from Summit Racing and similar places. This stuff also works well for lining the inside of the frame, especially around the rear cylinder head. See some of the threads in the Big, Bad, and Dirty forum on the subject. | ||

Thanks Hugh I'll start reading. I put a Buell Touring gel saddle on. I did a 30 miles loop after I changed back to the stock and it was better. Now I just have to deal with the fan blowing hot air all over my leg. From what I see it looks like the only place for the hot air to go is the gaps between the frame rails and the seat on the XB12STT. I wonder if I richen up the fuel with ECM Spy if it'll help any? OR change oil to something else other than Syn 3. I'll certainly looking to the liner for the frame | ||

You could try the Uly heat deflectors, but in my experience they made the seat warmer by sending the heat more up the tail section. | ||

I made my heat blanket out of underhood foil backed insulation.Works good. | ||

Hey Donnie, how about a picture or two? I have a few ideas but would like to see what others have don't before I reinvent the wheel. I'm thinking I need to block off the side gaps i the seat as that's were most of the heat is coming from...right on my legs. | ||

That was my biggest complaint when I rode an XB during a Buell test ride...but I'm still gonna get me one!! Even if I need a fire suit to ride it. | ||

Heh...it's not THAT bad. ...although on warmer days I'm paradoxically cooler wearing my leather lowers than any jeans/khakis/etc on the Uly.  | ||

OK I bought one of those silvery windshield things for a car. Cut it up and stuffed under the seat making sure to plug the side holes up as best I could. MUCH better and it was almost 90 here today. Fan still runs but that's not a problem. I'm not getting cook! Time to order the real deal from Odie. | ||

Birdy, I've got the Dual seat kit on my TT & it doesn't cook me. That said I nearly always ride in Leathers, & We don't get weather that hot either. | ||
