Let me start off by saying that I don't

believe it. I have heard from two

different people however that Buell will

be out of business by this time next year.

I have also been told that Buell has

stopped production for at least 6 months.

I wouldn't put much stock in it.

I've had at least two people tell me that we never landed on the moon.

If this were true, when would Buell MC be obligated to release this information?

I would be really disappointed if Buell ever had to close shop. But I don't think it will happen, then again look at GMC, Ford...

I've heard that exact same thing.
I heard it in the early '90s when I was looking at an RS 1200 (but couldn't afford to buy)
I heard it in '96 after I demo rode an S2-T, and fell in love. (but couldn't afford to buy)
I heard it in '98 after I bought my S3-T.
I heard it when Buell dropped the Tubers and came out with the XB platform in '03.
I also hear it every time Trollgrrrrrrrrrrrrlllll posts.

After the AMA wins, there are twice as many Buells on the show room floor to look at. And theres new ones there weekly! I think our corner of the world is going to be just fine.

It's amazing that these rumors persist even as Buell grows in a shrinking market.

What was Buell's best year ever? I'll give you a hint: 2008

In the fourth quarter of 2008, when the world was collapsing, Buell shipped the second largest number of bikes they ever have in any single quarter.

In 2007, Harley shipped 4,446,637 non-Buell bikes and in 2008 they shipped 4,278,241.

Buell, meanwhile, shipped 11,513 in 2007 and 13,119 in 2008.

Buell is the silver lining on Harley's gray cloud.

. . . oh, and the first quarter numbers are just out and Buell shipped MORE bikes in this dismal first quarter of 2009 (2441 vs 2392) than they did in the first quarter of (as I mentioned their best year) 2008.

And all that is before they started winning races.

Yeah, they're on the verge of collapse.

. . . oh, and by the way, that MV Augusta that was going to be the end of Buell shipped 685 bikes in the first quarter.

Precisely.

The next 175 years are PLANNED. Sure, some things will change but there is a PLAN in place and it's solid.

hmmmm, I don't think a 2,600 increase in Buell sales quite makes up for 168,000 unit decrease in Harley sales. The only threat to Buell right now is that 168K decrease in HD sales. IF, thats a big IF but not impossible, IF HD fails what becomes of Buell? I would imagine Erik and other investors would buy back the company and try to keep it alive. But without HD's infrastructure and dealer network I imagine it would be tough to keep the brand as strong as it is now.

However, I don't think HD will collapse any time soon and it's great to see Buell sales increasing even in this economy.

I agree, but Buell sales dollars are barely one third of HD's sales in accessories alone. Buell isn't keeping HD afloat. It is a contributor though and I don't look at 123 million in sales (2008) as piss poor. My company sells about 1/3 of that and we jump for joy like money is falling out of our asses.
