Hmmm...Looking right now at the Sleep Inn in Mukwonago. Anyone know if this place is decent for a cheaper hotel? Seems like it's only 7-8 miles from the factory.

I am considering this one for the AMA member discount that they offer, which will get me down to like $60 per night.

It is. I lived there for a month. It's less than 10 minutes from the plant.

I'm thinking of riding out each day and back home at night (bout 50 mi. one way). I thought of trying to camp at the farm with a tarp and blanket but I don't know what happened last year. I can see what an imposition that could be for Erik's family. I'll wear him out enough for an autograph. Personally looking forward to the parking lot and tales.

"I'm thinking of riding out each day and back home at night (bout 50 mi. one way)."

yes! always a fun ride especially if your not having to pay for a room. I don't know why the prices of rooms are so expensive in this area, but they are. I was looking at the prices of the motel in East Troy and the rates were like $115.00 for Thursday but it raised to something like $162.00 for Friday night, that's a huge increase for a weekend rate.

I wanna go. Defintley be camping though if possible, can't seem to find anything but Cedar Grove and they don't allow drinking or smoking. Everything else is Scout camps!

Anyone going from Maryland/Virginia area? Junes plenty of time to save up but it'd be better to go with other people, heck of a drive.

Too soon to tell if we're/I'm going. Her job keeps sending her to places on short notice, and my job's been undergoing some changes as well. I want to go, though. Both? Truck with bike(s) in back like last year. Solo? Uly miles. It's a trip, but definitely do-able on a bike (just ask Smiley).

Just depends on if we have a dogsitter, if I have the payroll in hand to cover the bills, and what happens with the car that got T-boned last week (her 05 Magnum R/T got hammered by a dumba$$ who didn't bother stopping on a sidestreet and hit us hard enough - 31mph - to detonate the sidecurtain airbags).

If you Maryland guys end up riding and are gonna pass through near Pittsburgh or Cleveland, give me a shout. I'm riding, solo or not, but it would break up the monotony if there were other bikes around.

Dang Ratbuell I'm sorry to hear about your car. Idiot had insurance right? I was talking with my dad about taking the F-150 and putting the Bolt in the back but he doesn't know if its a great idea, its got close to 200,000 miles on it. Dunno if it would make the trip to WI from Maryland. Don't know if I could handle the trip scrunched up on the Bolt.

Ponti, Clevelands on the way right? From MD it'd be northwest.

Yep, the Magnum is being covered by the other parties' insurance. Basically, they're letting my insurance (USAA) handle everything, give them a bill, and they're just writing a check. With*out* going to a bodyshop yet to get the doors open for a frame damage check (seems like the answer right there, to me - doors latch to a frame member - the B post - and they won't open? uh....BENT) they're already just shy of $10k.

I love that car, but at this point I hope it's totalled. I've got a 72 Satellite wagon that "needs" the 5.7 EFI Hemi and 5 speed autostick tranny out of the Magnum : )

For the trip to ET, it's not that bad a set of roads. Once you get west of MD, it's all flat and easy miles. Besides - it's a truck you're talking about. Carry your own repair stuff, LOL. Or, head over to the DC/MD Storm Front and ask Smiley how he did. We followed him out on his S and he didn't seem to be too bent up when we made fuel and food stops. Swap your pegs to the lower S pegs and you're halfway there ; )

Last year was cool. I stood on top of the trailer with a cold beverage and could see at least ten town's fireworks.

Moving out to the west end of Burlington. Basically Lyons. Take 36 west out of town. At Bobby Rockets, go straight. About 1 1/2 mi. on the left.

Yup. I used to live out on the west end of Waterford. 20 to Miller rd. I used to take the long way home, and hit a few roads out by Honey Creek on my sportster. It will be nice to ride those again after 5 years of being near Union Grove. For some reason, I just can't seem to get away from country living. This time I'll be on a bike better suited to my style of riding!....I can't wait!!!!!

Not to reveal too much of my already obvious ignorance, but how do you guys haul camping stuff?

I'm looking at saddle bags to compliment my tank bag, but have no idea how I'd also fit a tent, sleeping bag, and other items required for camping.

Do you just strap everything on with a bunch of bungees?

Big truck and trailer is how I do it. Just camp where I'm going to camp and you don't need much.

Something like that. After you've done it a couple of times, you figure out how to do it.

Ponti1, I like putting the stuff into a duffel bag and strapping that on to the bike.

If you can't strap it to a motorcycle you probably don't need it!

On the Firebolt I used the tank bag, saddlebags and a mobility bag strapped to the rear section. Crusty is dead on, after you do it a couple of times it is easy.

I was mostly thinking of how to handle the tent and sleeping bag. Beyond that, it will be pretty much just clothes and toiletries.

My tent (in the bag) is about 10" diameter, and about 30-36" long. My lightest sleeping bag is (also in the bag) about 12" diameter and 20-24" long.
