I'll be in San Francisco for a night next month. We're looking for a "locals" place to eat. Prefer something cultural. I'm thing China Town or Little Italy. There will be 8ppl for a night of food and drink. We're heading up to Napa and Somona counties for the remainder of the week. Thanks for any local insight!!! | ||

jai yun 415-981-7483 923 pacific ave sf 94133 Real chinese food. not the american uncle whoevers. Call in advance. tell them how maney people and how much per person you want to spend. (like 35 bucks each and the food never seems to stop) You don't order. You just sit down and they start bringing you food. Unbelievable!!!! Expensive but really good french. La folie on polk street. Roland Passot's place. That will knock your socks off but will cost you two months in buell payments. | ||

Do yourself a favor and hit Scoma's at Fishermans Wharf. I lived in S.F. for a long time and you will be glad you found them. Not ethnic, but you won't mind. | ||

Dennis...We also should probably tell you while you're there please don't call it "San Fran" or "Frisco"...The locals either say "San Francisco" or "The City"...Some are even offended by the first two...I'm looking forward to hearing from you when you get back and how you're doing with the second mortgage... Go to Calistoga in Napa County. Less touristy than Napa. Post over at www.sacborg.com and I'm sure Acidburn would hook you up with a tour. Rent a coupla bikes, and it'd be even better. Tell 'em "bigj" sent you.  | ||

Personal Faves - Grand Palace on Grant,Ebisu on 9th. ave.,Osteria on Sacramento, and almost any restaraunt on Irving, though Todai isn't that far away, also the very best coffee in SF is in my hood - the Beanery on 9th. ave (the guy brokers, buys and roasts his own beans)- lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

My favorite thing at the Oakville Grocery Store is to TURN LEFT from Higwhay 29, take Oakville Grade Road to Trinity Road over the Oakville Grade. This road, with the possible exception of the Mount Wilson Observatory Road up on Angeles Crest, is an absolute slow speed, 9 miles of Battle-Trax, 1st gear, moto-play place. Without ever exceeding 20 MPH you can have the hoot of your life. If you want "pricy" head up the block about 2 miles to one of American Express Patinums "Finest Hotesl in the World". Local secret: There is a "private Hotel on John Steinbeck in Monterey. Roof is a preferred place to sit, write and watch sea otters. Neat area. Court | ||

For Italian, you might want to try Luisa's Incontro (if they're still in business) on Castro Street. Not crowded, the owner is really nice, and great atmosphere. Grand Palace in Chinatown is really good, especially if you can be in town during the morning and head there for dim sum. If you want some good Mexican/Salvadorean/Peruvian, I can point you to several good places in my neighborhood. All in all, too much good stuff to cram into one night! lol... Scott | ||

If into authentic Itlaian food you absolutely HAVE to go Tommaso's. Check out city search.com for full reviews and editorials. http://sanfrancisco.citysearch.com/profile/917747?cslink=search_name_noncust I have lived in SF for many years and this spot is a local favorite just of the Broadway strip. Family owned for years, great wine selection and imported beers. No hard booze, but those come easily in this neighborhood. |
