You will get many opinions on Helmets. For example I love the Shark RSR2, but at the end of the day it comes done to what fits you the best and what features you desire in a lid. As for a good price and good service - go with the guys at www.sportbiketrackgear.com they have a huge selection and offer good prices. |

Problem with helmets is everybody has a different head so what fits me great might fit you horribly. Thats why Arai has 3 helmets that look the same, but each one has a different interior. |

Icon, Domain 2 Devil Dog, best lookin helmet out there IMO. But, don't get caught wearing one if you're are not the real deal. |

brumbear, i also am cursed with the long oval head shape , i've tried on lots of helmets and the only ones that "fit" my head shape is the arai profile (which is the best helmet i have owned)& a shark rsi. i haven't got enough time in the shark to evaluate it yet. |

You can't go wrong with a well fitting Arai. You can often find sales online, especially this year. I have seen the profile onsale for around 300 bucks. |

I have a profile, so does FT_B. I love mine, he hates his... You are going to have a hard time finding a deal online as Arai doesn't allow discounted online sales. Now find a hungry motorcycle shop and you might work out a deal. I got mine just as they came out, and I have a "Frost Black" (sort of a matte charcoal) I had to order mine, so it was nearer $500 at the time. If you do decided to get one, make sure to have it fitted for you. You will be much happier after the proper cheek pads/lining is installed. |

My current lid is a HJC (AC12), fit and comfort have been good, it's kind of noisy though and the shield has a tendency to fog up when it's cool out. Looking at the current HJC line-up for my next lid, so that says a bit. The FS-10 with the integrated sun shield looks interesting. I have used several KBC and AGV too. Joe Rocket has a cool carbon lid last year too. |

Oh yeah, I had a line on discount Arai's when I was still a MSF instructor, but still skipped them because they were still more than I wanted to spend! I usually find "last years" model marked down and pick it up for less, but I have a smaller melon so there are usually a few leftovers in my size. |

I buy some things online, but I buy my helmets from a local shop so that I can try it on first. I have had good luck with Cycle Gear. They occasionally run sales and I picked up my Shoei for 20% off on one of them. They carry Arai as well. |

My back up lid is an AC-12 Carbon. It's a very nice helmet. I just bought a Bell Star and I love it. It feels just as light as my Carbon lid and seems to go through the wind alot better. If you look around you cab pick one of the closeout colors for $199-$299. These helmets have an msrp of $500 or more. It is really worth checking out. |

he hates his That's an understatement. My Profile helmet is why I won't buy another Arai. I have a "Profile" head (long oval). For the money, you can't get a better helmet than the EXO line. The EXO 400 is almost exactly a Profile in it's shape. You can get them everywhere for arouns $100 and they rate higher than Arai in the new STAR ratings. At least give them a look. |

I have an Arai, and a Shoei. Both fit great, are comfy and relatively quiet. Both are new since I used up my last helmet in July. The Arai, I can't wear in cold (sub-20 degree) weather. It vents TOO well, even when all of 'em are closed. It's gonna be awesome in the summer. I got the Shoei at IMS; I was only looking because of the super-ventilation problem with the Arai. The vendor discount everybody offered me didn't hurt, either It vents much more like I'm used to - great when they're open, fogs up when closed - and it's a Multitec modular, which I'm used to. They make it a LOT easier to keep my balaclava pulled up over my mouth when I put the helmet on (since I'm too dumb to come in out of the cold) I know. Modulars aren't rated for face protection. I use it in-town. Dedicated, blast-around-the-mountains runs get the Arai. |

I resisted the lure of the Arai for several years, as I went through one ill fitting el-cheapo after another. I had a cool Icon that broke falling off the kitchen table. Then I got a good deal on an Arai on eBay, and I finally have a helmet that fits my long oval noggin. Simply put, I just love it to death, and frankly, I see no reason to EVER take it off.
Better safe than sorry, I always say! Savy? PS: Customer service is first rate too: non existent at Icon. |

God I hate helmet shopping, every time I find a good helmet that fits right & all that, when it comes to replacement time for whatever reason..."sorry they don't do that one any more" aaaargh. Those of you who wear glasses like me will understand the frustration also of finding an excellent helmet that fits like a glove & is in the price range, but your windows won't stay in place when you're riding. aaaarrgghh & don't even get me started on wind noise & visor fittings....... |
