If you were moving to Boston and could live anywhere you wanted (i.e. others picking up the tab). . . where would you look? What is the inner city, around Boston Commons, like? |

Anywhere on the transit line is fine but most avoid the "Taxachusetts" part and live in New Hampshire, doesn't matter whose dime when all the little dimes start adding up. Visit Boston, don't live there altho the back bay is the most fascinating to me. My advice may bu useless as I am proud of the fact that I have dined at all of the Legal Seafood restaurants in the Boston area and have the matchbooks to prove it. Sort of the High class McDonalds of Seafood. |

I lived in Brookline for a year and it was great. Nice area to walk around in and the "T" was right on Commonweath ave or right on Beacon St. One to two mile walk from Fenway park. |

If I had to live in the City itself, I'd probably live in the Back Bay. That's the area between the Common and Public Gardens and Kenmore Square. If I could live outside Boston Proper, I'd choose Newton, Belmont or Winchester. This is based on the assumption that whoever is doing the moving is working in the city, and living expenses and lodging are on someone else's nickel. |

It's be a two year gig near the corner of Oliver and Franklin . . . . a bit of a long shot. I know nothing about Boston. The only time I was there was at M.I.T. for 8 days for Buell. Thanks for the info, we'll see what happens. |

The "Inner City", around the commons, is called Back Bay, as it is built on filled land. Beacon Hill is on the north side of the commons, is very historical and beautiful. I think John Kerry lives there. Both are very nice. Only problem is killer traffic, so you want to think about how you are going to get to work. Brookline is just a few minutes out of the city, lots of very nice old houses. Cambridge, as Damnut notes, is fun. Subway to Boston, traffic very heavy at rush hour. Basically, it is a very expensive place to live, rather sophisticated at times due to presences of many Universities and colleges, worst drivers on planet Earth. I spent eight years in Cambridge, loved every minute of it, but that was long ago. Rode my first motorcycle there: a Norton 99.

While on vacation, we stayed in Cambridge and took the Red Line to downtown. The subway can be convenient in the winter. I assume it is a construction project, so you'll start early enough that the traffic won't be too bad to ride, at least in the morning. Finding a lockup for your bike may be a challenge, but just get lucky. |

>>>> I assume it is a construction project Actually . . . CEO of a major financial institution for the SCU and the plan would be to live close enough to walk. The days will be long. I'm committed in NYC on a $1B power plant for which final contracts are to be signed tomorrow. (and can you believe they are talking Sept 2010 completion?) Like I said . . . it's a long shot. We're looking at 2 options. . . . buying a farm midway and doing some heavy commuting or a 2nd home within walking distance. Eager to check it out . . . thanks again . . . if they throw in a Norton . . . it's a done deal.

There are some real nice condos near the aquarium and down a bit towards south station. Definitely in walking distance and definitely pricey. The nebros are a wholesome bunch. Hah! |

Hehehehe. . the DuPont folks would still love to have my blasting license back after what I did at Northeast power plant in 1970. NOTE #1: You must not shoot a case of 80% Hy-Drive and save time by replacing the backfill/blasting mat by parking a vehicle (even and M5 personnel carrier) over the hole. Note #2: Under the right circumstance an M5 personnel carrier becomes an aircraft. Note 3: The engines in M5 personnel carriers are no well secured and may detach (and land on other vehicles) in the event the personnel carrier becomes airborn, Note 4: If, God forbid, this were ever to happen don't look to your Union Steward to back you up.

Checked with a friend who works for Credti Suisse, he believes that you won't be worrying about a car or transit. The drivers/traffic is so bad that most of the "better" financial institutions have a limo service doing pick ups and drop offs. They probably won't even mention it to the SCU as it is standard practice in the area. Executive chefs are another underrated perk in Boston. Food was really great the one time I visited. I think they have provided housing in Boston, New York and Chicago. Occasionally they get moved while away, The limo guy knows where to drop em off. Sort of like living out of a really big suitcase. there are people living a life style I admire until I visit my nephews and the whole pack of kids comes running at me screaming for attention. Guess I might be a redneck. |

>>>Guess I might be a redneck. I am too. The car will stay in NYC and this will be an Acela to and fro effort and a place within walking distance of the office and the care service you describe. Way early yet . . . talks proceeding. Thanks ! |

The standard definition for relationships is Spousal Control Unit. She may not wear the pants but she is always in charge. Had a sweatshirt that had a simple saying "She Who Must be Obeyed", GF wore that damn thing everywhere. I of course could be wrong, so feel free to correct my simple midwestern ways. |

Yes. . . . . round about 1994 I used "The Lovely and Vivacious Mrs. Canfield" . . . but it evolved to SCU neigh on the Millennium . . . seems to pretty well describe things. Her and Erik's boss are punching buddies and, with neither of them tipping the scales at 100#, are to be feared if provoked . . . I never know if Erik's been in orthopedic surgery or simply misbehaved and got decked. Yes Dear . . . . just down here starting the wash . . . I'll be upstairs in a moment. Shhhhh . .. gotta run guys! |
