Well I got a separation notice this morning. Guess my time was just up there. Actually I've been surprised to make it this long.

Funny thing is, I feel a sort of serene calm about it. The place turned out to be a career-staller anyway, so I'm really not even upset about it. I packed up a bunch of stuff onto the Uly and walked out without even saying goodbye to anyone but my two work friends there. Filed for unemployment this afternoon and now it's me and the great unknown of possibilities. I can live with that. I kinda feel silly now for having spent so much time worrying about getting laid off!

Sucks to happen. I hope you find something better.

The good news is that you've got an opportunity to start new. Take the time to figure out what you WANT to do and work toward that.

I may be facing similar decisions.

Bummer, but then again, it could be the start of a better journey!

What type of work do you do (or want to do)?

Environmental regulations work for Dept. of Transportation projects has been my gig up to now...you can imagine how well that industry has been doing lately.

All my life up to now has been on a track to something else. Finish grade school to get to high school, finish high school to get to college, finish college to get a job, and now, for the first time, I am without a defined course. There is enough Jack Kerouac fan in me to appreciate the beauty in that.

The real question is...who wants to ride?

I am going to burn up the roads as much as my budget (aka my wife) will let me until the next job comes along. Makes me SO glad I scored 2 sets of tires at cyclegear's new year sale! If anybody wants to do a long distance meetup to commiserate about how much it sucks that we have to be unemployed, riding across the country on motorcycles in the middle of the week, let me know!

I'm not afraid of unemployment. And i'm NOT saying the O.P. is.

At 43 i've worked all my adult life without much vacation time.I'd quit my last job last September.I LOVED the time off!!

I had secured a new job only two weeks later, and it paid over $2.50/hr more than i had.My new employer allowed me a couple more weeks before i started.IT WAS FUN!!

But i had QUIT and couldn't collect. If i ever get laid off,i look forward to collecting.Especially as of late,my new pal Barak is helping us to collect for longer....woo-hoo!!

Relax...take some time to reflect on what YOU want.

Left before I was slowed down, reduced or capped. Exits are always on my terms.

Bill- You can rest assured if I am headed your way I will let you know, and you can bet that a cooler of beer will be strapped onto my ventura rack!

We'll have to wait and see what the wife thinks about all this scheming before I start planning routes. I know she's ok with me going, but the whole "a job can wait" thing could be a little sticky.

Gentlemen Rome is falling

Actually, Rome is being pushed down.

Falling implies accidental, unguided and unintentioned decline.

There are those actively working to pull everything apart.
