All my buddies got them (I'm 22), but have yet to get some. A little while after getting the Bolt I started getting interested in them. Got 9-10 planned out, just need the cash for them. Greek flag with moms last name, irish/german with dads last name, maryland/american flag with an anchor on my back, liking the spiderweb on the elbow to but I dont want people to think im a neo-nazi with that. There so friggin expensive.

I wanted to get this tattooed but never got around to it.
I still want it though.

I took the drawing and pulled out just the tree and sun.
I have a few different versions sketched out at home.

The main reason I haven't done it; I think it would only look right as a FULL back tat and I don't know if I can handle that, being an ink virgin.

thats an awfully nice red x bud. but i dont think it will require an entire back tat to bring out its full effect.

That looks like the tree of life. Is it? There are so many nice depictions of it out there. I have one drawn up that I was getting on my upper back/neck, but decided against it for something else. Beautiful symbol though.

BOOstzx3, I know it is a lot of money for some good ink, but, if you think about it it's one of the best deals you can get. Especially for someone your age. A permanent mark of something you like (at least at one time you did) wherever you want it it cost's mere pennies a day or less.

Not purple s2, If that is something you really like (I think) it deserves the whole back. The back is the biggest canvas you have and (I think) should be dedicated to one big piece. I wish I had only one giant piece on my back. I have two that work into and compliment each other but still wish I saved that huge canvas for one huge piece.

Didn't I say I hate people who give tattoo advise ?

Your skin is a very important and precious part of your immune system.

When you punch holes in it it wants to heal. When there is a foreign substance introduced into your body it can activate your immune system in ways we don't completely understand even today.

Piercings are probably not a good idea but the body can probably recover from the injury in most cases although it could involve more serious complications.

Injecting ink/particles/dyes etc permanently into the skin is a bad idea IMO.

Makeup/cosmetic companies do a lot of testing of products just applied to the surface of the skin. They have lawyers and money to lose and they view the little testing they do as good business. Your local tattoo parlor is not in the same league. There is a whole world of difference between temporary surface application and implantation into the body - particularly the skin which is one of the more active areas of the immune system.

Spiffing up your bike or spiffing up your body is all good stuff. BUT implanting/injecting "stuff" into the body carries some irreversible risks with it IMO.

So my unsolicited New Year's advice to folks is to enjoy all the body art you like as long as it washes off and/or heals over. I have a suspicion that 20 years from now you will find that to be good advice.

Now I will shut up<grin>.

Jimmy Buffet's comments on tattoos...

"A permanent reminder of a temporary feeling."

For the longest time I wanted a Harley tattoo. I no longer own, or would own a Harley. Almost everything I ever thought about having tattooed I've long since lost interest in. Dad had a Navy crest on his arm. Always said it was the worst decision he ever made. He had it put on while stationed on Guam at age 18. At age 70 it looked like a blob of faded ink. So after all these years and still no ink I'm pretty damn glad I didn't and have adopted Hayes Carll's philosophy on the subject.

"I've got no rings upon my fingers, no ink beneath my skin
I'll be as clean going out as I was coming in"

your right, its not a good idea, this is how i jumped up a couple of gauge sizes when i didnt feel like waiting. but of course the original hole has only been there since 1995.

take a piece of aluminum rod(or whatever you have laying around). grind a point on it and jam it through. after disinfecting it of course...

People have been gettin tatted up for decades. That should be more than enough time for people to start dropping dead from tats if it were gonna happen.

I'm sure I've got a better chance to mess up my skin going down on the bike than I do from a tattoo or two or full sleeve.

Tattoos for decades? Try centuries! Same for piercings.

Several of my mates have those ear spreaders - make a big hole in their earlobe things.

I usually get drunk and try to put my....have sex with it.

thats not what is normally in there, that was just used to fit a bigger gauge 3/4 hoop in. and i dont remember the last time someone actually landed a punch to my face. highschool maybe. i usually make a point to move out of the way in the rare occasion someone tries.
