About 4 years ago, I was in the minivan with the family after visiting my brother in Des Moines. A small group on rice rockets came by and one guy had on a T-shirt that had in 4" high letters, "F--- Off" (fully spelled out) on the back. I just don't understand the need to wear that in public. What are your opinions? | ||

I just don't understand the need to wear that in public. What are your opinions? i honestly dont care what people wear. they can exprese themselves however they want. i have plenty of shirts that most people might find offensive. one has a hand pointing a finger at you with the other hand flipping you off. the other one says d.i.l.l.i.g.a.f and has a hand giving the bird that covers the whole back side of the shirt. another says i put out on the first date. another has an old english looking guy that says "f@ck ye" on it. and the list goes on. i really dont care if someone likes it or not. just dont look at me then. kids are not oblivious to things, they have heard most everything already. they just get taught not to say such things until they are old enough to make the decision for themselves. | ||

i am in the same boat with Tim. i have a BUNCH of offensive t-shirts. if you don't like what they say just don't read it. i don't like country music i find it offensive. but i would never tell some one that does like it to not listen to it or play it. | ||

The problem with wearing tee shirts with that language on it is you have no control over the age group that sees it, as you are in a public place. Most people will at least watch their language when kids are around, but if it's blaring at them on your shirt, well, there's really no way to contain it. When my child is old enough to read it, say, in another 6 months or so, I'd rather not expose her to that language. She's 5. I can keep her from watching it on TV, and movies. I should be able to walk down the street and not have my kids exposed to that language on someone's shirt. Wear it to parties, if you must "express yourself" in that way, but please, allow me to have a little control over what my 5 year old reads on YOUR tee shirt. And BTW, the only thing that sort of a tee-shirt really expresses about the wearer, well, it's not great. Just my $.02. Harder and harder to keep my kids away from that crap. ->ChelleM | ||

Maybe I am wrong, but I always though that a person wearing garment with "f-- off" or the like must have felt wronged or hurt somewhere along the way to display such dismay to a fellow human being. It certainly isn't cool. But that's just in my book. | ||

I find it in poor taste.It comes down to common decency.I'd be VERY offended walking with my Mother and being subjected to some shirt wearing ignorant person with offensive words obviously aimed at the reader. Country music doesn't even come close,or even on the same planet,for that matter. The same as flipping a Cop the bird.It's not illegal,but you just do not do such things. | ||

They are usually lonely, in need of affection, and haven't had children yet. Being adult doesn't necessarily start at any given age. They just need to grow up to realize what it means. Doesn't mean they are not likeable people. Oh man.....I'm getting old! | ||

I believe that folks should be allowed to wear a shirt emblazoned with whatever they wish. Conversely, I believe the observers of that shirt have the right to draw whatever conclusion about the wearer they desire. Both Tim and Gary are upstanding great people. I'd trust either of them with my life. A T-shirt with F*ck You! on it wouldnt' even come close to accurately conveying the character of Tim or Gary. If you ARE a douchebag, the shirt you wear may precisely convey who you are. The risk is that the observer may never make the effort to find out whether or not your shirt describes you correctly or not. | ||

My favorite offensive shirt...  It's just sooo bad. Personally though, I don't usually wear anything offensive and if I do I don't wear it out in "public" i.e. family places. 99% of the time you'll find me in a plain white or black t and blue jeans. Which keeps me out of bars. Apparently plain white t-shirts have been adopted by gangsta rappers and drug dealers so now you can't wear them in most bars or clubs. So if you go to a bar wearing a plain white t you can't get in but if you write "F Jesus in the A-hole" on it they'll let you right in. | ||

Wearing shirts like that says VOLUMES about your character...similar to being profane in public places. Do something WAY different than your normal thinking process and think about your mother or grandma having to be subject to these offensive T-shirts. Yeah, it's not so coool. Goes along with mohawks on helmets, loud pipes and the like--GIVE ME ATTENTION (just like Reepi said.) | ||

They are usually lonely, in need of affection, and haven't had children yet im obviously not lonely or in need of affection...  homecoming (this year i think)  and apparently i have a 9 year old daughter!  macbuell took this one at the dragon while we were taking a break  if you base your opinion of me off of a shirt i wear, i probably dont care to know you anyway. it definatly helps weed out a bunch of people i might have wasted time trying to get to know. the girlfriend says i hate everyone. thats not completely true. she gives everyone the benefit of the doubt and gets used and hurt by to many so called friends. i work more along the lines of i dont like you, convince me that i should. if i call you my friend, there isnt a damn thing i wouldnt do for you and i know that the same will be returned back to me. its about like the people that try to judge me based on my lip ring that has been in since 1995 when absolutely no one had seen something like that before. most of the time it actually says alot more about the person doing the judging | ||

I just don't get the point. I mean, if you don't like someone who's talking to you, *say* f@ck you and focus it on them. If you're wearing it on your shirt, you're effectively saying it to everyone who sees you. Don't get me wrong, I fully support your right to wear something like that. It's your choice to broadcast that to everyone within sight, I just don't get it. And I *don't* like people (in general). What was it, Men in Black? "A *person* is enlightened and rational; *people* are dumb, panicky animals" (or something like that). There are many persons whom I like, very much. People as a species, however, continue to disappoint me. I guess I'd rather keep to myself than draw the possible wrath of the folks I don't like... | ||

most of the time it actually says alot more about the person doing the judging I respectfully disagree. You're wearing that shirt to make a statement. The shirt DOES make a statement. As much as you have the right to make that statement, I guess, the consequence is that I try to avoid you when I have kids, and I think to myself, jeez, that's kinda rude. Choice and consequence. That's all. Personally, I would never wear a shirt like that around anywhere that kids might see it. It's just, well, inconsiderate. Even if you DO hate everyone. You don't care if your kids see that shirt. Absolutely your choice. But can't you respect my choice to NOT expose my children to that language? Wearing that shirt is, well, disrespectful.
