Ok... maybe i am too young... or not educated enough....

I am 32... Accounting and Finance Major.... Masters in Pub Adm... and starting a my Masters in Bus Adm...

All that said... I am a Detective in law enforcement...

BUT.... HOW does the Govt think that a SECOND stimulus package estimated at OVER $600 BILLION will help bump start the ecomony ????

The last one this past year showed that it really did NOT work....

I am TIRED of OUR tax paying dollars being used for BULL SHIT programs that dont do ANYTHING but get this great country into FURTHER DEBT....

Sorry... I was watching the news while working out this morning and saw the proposal on this and its supposed to be passed at the FIRST of the year by the "NEW" administration....

"Change" = Billions of tax payer dollars going to finance the country going fascist.

Scary ain't it.
It's scary because it's happening, and it doesn't seem like there's any way we can stop it.

Oldog,

HONESTLY... I am looking at teaching at the University Level. I finish the MBA program the Fall of 2010 and start the Doctorate Program for Pub Adm that same semester.

I have a 4 yr plan that I put into play this time last year after my divorce... So far its all come together just about 3.5 yrs left.

Currently I am a Sgt over the Investigative Division for the University Police Dept.

Previously I was a City Cop for 3 yrs...

LONG TERM.... I would like to work my way into some type of political job... I KNOW that I could "CHANGE" things.

I would start by FIRING the CRAP out of people in the Govt and ordering a MANDATORY audit of EVERY sector of the Govt.

I pisses me off to see OUR money being WASTED... I see it EVERY year here at the State level. At the end of the year they have told us to just spend all that we have left... It makes NO sence... Now that the State (GA) is going BROKE they are telling us there is no money so dont even ask for anything.

Well... if they had been ONLY buying what the TRUELY needed for the past 20 yrs... we would have one hell of a surplus of cash sitting.

But... nope... WASTE its the way of the Govt and it starts at the LOCAL level and goes all the way UP.

I just hate it... but I believe in this country. I know that its people WILL not stand for it forever. Change will NOT come from BERRY O but I do believe that there will one day be a leader that will put those to the fire that have sucked, stole and bled this country for their own personal goal.

Will it be me... ??? I would NEVER be opposed to running... but I have NO affiliation in politics as of now. I really dont know that I could stand to be in the same room with them without wanting to choke the damn life out of them.

Matt.

Isn't great what people will do with money that isn't theirs?

As far as starting at the local level, you are SO right.

I'd love to tell a story that I think you guys would love - but I don't want to implicate anyone and have anybody lose their job (namely my girlfriend), but let's just say the guy was asked to step down after it.

Running for office has always been something i've wanted to do, so maybe once my career is a little more stable, I finally buy a house, and have a little more free time it will happen.

If they really want to jump start the economy, give every WORKING family 10 grand or so! A pueny sum of $500 bucks or even a grand is only gonna pay bills (utilities, insurance, mortage and so have you.) If you give everyone a significant amount people will hit the malls and purchase goods! Just my .002

Oh, there's a way to stop it. Vote the bastards out. Seems like the only difference between Democrats and Republicans nowadays is their standings on ethics issues. The Libertarians have been against all of this insanity from the start. You want to set Washington straight, start voting Libertarian. They don't even have to win office... they just need to steal enough of the vote to worry the incumbents. They'll get the message.

Hey Matt If I am still around when you run for prez I'll vote for you,

your mantra "I'll fix it"

I agree with the idea that the hill needs cleaning up, starting at the state level.
Likely at the local level,

I wish that public service was like jurry duty your name is called and you must work the job for say 2 years, the state pays you the equivelent of your current pay, for the term.
graft / corruption is punishable by public flogging, imprisonment [ think gulag ].

Matt I admire young folks who have a plan and work at it with passion, it will be younger men like yourself that will save the country if it comes to it.

Just wait until you actually get into politics. I started out on the ground level almost three years ago as the very first City Codes Enforcement Officer our city has ever had, namely property maintenance codes. I've lived here all my life and was tired of seeing the degradation our city was going through. We have had a total of 26 structures torn down and hauled away not to mention the ones cleaned up amongst other things. If you are true to the job it is thankless, low pay, and very unfriendly, meaning you get on a lot of sh!t lists. But back to politics, it is a strange occupation to say the least. Not really sure I want to make a career out of this position but it gives great insight into other things and you make a lot of contacts who can make things happen. It does have some good benefits though. At the end of the day, just like anything else, you feel good about making a difference in your community, for example...

and...

The pictures were taken off the same corner and that large pile of topsoil is now gone also. There are more to come down but it's a start.

And as far as the incentive checks go I still haven't jump started the economy with mine. It's the only way I can take the family to Disney World next summer but I'll really stimulate it then.
Sorry same corner should have been this picture...

There was an idea that I heard on Fox, in passing, so I didn't get the entire chunk of info. But what I heard sounded pretty good as far as use of bailout money.

First, let me first state that I don't think the fed should be bailing ANYONE out. It is not the role of government to bail out business in any way. But, if they are hell bent on doing it... they might as well do it the best way possible.

So here it is:

Take the bailout package, and instead of giving it to businesses that made poor decisions, give everyone an income tax break equal to the bailout limit.
So, for example, for two months, everyone who earns a paycheck, and has federal taxes witheld, would get 100% of their pay (minus state taxes). Put the bailout money in the federal account to offset the loss of income taxes.

That would be quite a raise for most folks.

Something I would like to see added to that would be to put a little slip of paper in with everyone's pay stubs that says:
"This is close to what it would be like under the Fair Tax Act. See www.fairtax.org for more information"

Most definitely is.

Everyone pays depending on what they spend, including tourists, immigrants (Legal or otherwise), whathaveyou.
Everyone also gets a "poverty level" rebate each month to offset the impact on those who don't make squat.

It makes April 16th just like any other day. completely eliminates the IRS, with the exception of a VERY small office who just needs to deposit the collected taxes in the correct account.

does away with anyone ever having, or needing, to know about tax laws, or how to get as many deductions since there is no income tax to deduct from.

"See www.fairtax.org for more information" LOL.

I think the whole thing was handled wrong from the start. We as the spoiled gen X'ers didn't adhere to the principals our fathers and grandfathers tried to teach us, therefore we did not pass it on to our children.

The stimulus could have had a three-fold effect.
1. hand out the money as planned to tax payers.(the stimulus)
2. government put it in a new savings account opened at a local bank for each person receiving a check. (the lost lesson)
3. make it stay in the bank account for three months before it could be spent (bails out the banks)

Thats precisely where mine went and is
I agree that some need better training about spending and saving,

I like the idea of the fair tax except the rebate idea, but is the basic idea that folks that live below the PL get part of it back?

Well, the rebate has to be there for those who are at/below the poverty level.

Here is a better explanation than I could give:

If they let you have all the money you earned it could lead to revolution once everyone realized how much is removed from every paycheck (plus every purchase, plus property taxes, plus, plus, plus)

Better to have a gimmick that feels like a bonus or winning the lottery.

Happy happy joy joy

Its strange how it all occurrs and history repeats itself.

I am NO big history buff but I do know that no nation stays at the top forever. History has proven that time and time again.

With the proposed bailouts in Congress now it will be similar to one of us patching a hole in a oil line with masking tape. It will leak again and will be worse.

The under valued American dollar is showing US (Govt) that you can NOT continue to print money while sending infrastructure over seas due to better tax benefits.

Make business's stay in AMERICA... offer them the incentatives needed to stay here.

Example... 15 yrs ago or so in a WalMart.. 90% or more of the items were "MADE IN AMERICA." Look at them now... roughly 100% are MADE IN CHINA.

Another GREAT example of LOCAL LEVEL WASTE (City of Valdosta, GA.)

Each year the City Police Dept here buys cars (Crown Vics). The Investigative Division is lucky if there cars are 3-4 yrs old and have less than 30K miles... so they replace them REGARDLESS... at 10-15 cars at $25K a piece it adds up. Even the Detectives say the DONT want the new car but the are FORCED to take one. STUPID!!!! at a cost of $250K to $350K a year its just WASTE!!!

Imagine EVERY City Dept across the land spending money like this. The Dept here is NOT that big. About 120 Officers Sworn... about 25-30 Detectives. So there are definately LARGER departments out there spending a TON more money.

Its happening everywhere and without it stopping or someone stepping up to put the nations economy in check this nation is "TOAST." The economy will tank and make the 1930's look like a walk in the park.

Hate to be all gloom but I am getting more pissed at each passing day.

Its simple CHECK BOOK BALANCING. If the $$$ is NOT there and you have debt... Dont buy anything and pay the debt DOWN!!!

Trim the areas that you DONT really need... pay off areas that are in the red and revitalize the nation by reminding Americans that we CAN and DO build quality items HERE in the USA.

Matt.

I am still kinda liking that thing the fellow from Texas proposed. . . . where they would abate ALL federal taxes for the months of January and February.

No federal withholding, FICA, SS, Medicare. . .

In addition, there was talk of then allowing each family a $10,000 allowance to the purchase of an American automobile.

Me?. . . I'd buy another Ford truck in a heartbeat. Imagine, if all of a sudden Ford sold it's entire inventory and has a 2 year backlog of F-150 orders. .

I'm not sure it would be a long term solution but it would, just as they are claiming they want to do with the "bailout" money, give them some breathing room as they retool.

I think the Chicago politics, Madoff fiasco and a couple recent events are a precursor to the next year or two.

Interesting times and tons of opportunities.

Matt:
the new car thing reminds me of My X wife and "I saved money buying this on sale at 1/2 off"

Mc Cain said "If you dont like the situation run for office and change it, get involved"

Perhaps when you finish your schooling
public politics may be a reasonable venue for your tallents, I have to leave the anger thing out of my thinking, I too feel disgust and dismay about such irresponcible spending,
No humor intended here perhaps you may wish to look into the purchase arrangements between Valdosta and the local Ford agency, the GOB thing exists in a lot of forms.
all those new cars that are not needed may help pay another officer or two.

In the interview, Harper also said his finance minister's budget on January 27 would include billions of dollars in stimulus spending, ending more than a decade of back-to-back balanced budgets in Canada. "Obviously, we're going to have to run a deficit," Harper said. "We're talking about spending billions of dollars that was not planned."

Does Washington even know how to balance a checkbook?
