I found it curious that the article didn't mention his party affiliation. Had he been a republican, they no doubt would have emphasized it.

But then again, it is Chicago politics.

Probably because it's the Chicago Tribune, and they expect their readership to know he's a Democrat. The New York Times mentions his party affiliation: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/09/us/politics/10Il linois.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&src=igw

Sean, don't give a sensible answer. It doesn't jive with Strokizator's conviction that it's all liberal media spin...

Illinois has a governor jailbird tradition - Otto Kerner, Dan Walker, George Ryan. Dems 2 - GOP 1

Frank Herbert (author of "Dune") had it right. It's not that power corrupts, but that positions of power attract the corruptible.

The Bene Gesseritt system sounded good to me. Only women who didn't want to become Reverend Mothers were elected to Reverend Mother...

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

+1!

I hadn't thought of that quote in a while.

Read the entire series at least twice- he did one that involved a similar premise to a desert planet, but it was covered in water mostly.

Good thread hijack...

Anyone read Orson Scott Card? Ender's Game and the Worthing Saga are quite good.
Sheri Tepper?
Certainly Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson.

Gonna get the sci-fi geek on...

But back on topic- someone oughta get the gom jabbar after that meat of a governor. And OJ. And....

"It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

It is by the juice of Sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion."

Dang, I love that Sapho juice..... if it's what I think it is.....

The Chicago Tribune is a Republican newspaper! One of the reasons that the governor was charge was that he was trying to get some of the journalist from the Tribune fired!
