Hey I got my sled fired up and ready to rock as soon as we get snow. Made me wonder who else rides snowmobiles, and whats your sled of choice. For me, Polaris baby!!
Sled of choice? AMF Harley Davidson 440...but I will probably never have one.Collectors price nowadays. In the garage,1975 Yamaha ET-250 with an Arctic Cat 440 shoehorned in and a 1985 Phazer that I took the starter out of yesterday cause it fried(stuck brushes). In the basement, AMF Skidaddler with 793 Hirth free air. .........payed 21 bucks for the Skidaddler....in this condition........
I have a 1991 Indy 500 and a 2002 Pro-x 440 Snocross sled (both Polaris for those who don't know). I used to race but had a few off track injuries the last couple of years so I guess I'm semi-retired.
currently without a sled as i totaled the last one in the range of 140 mph.
had tons of sleds, had a 440 chapparell(sp?) as my first sled. just got ride of it a few years ago. damn thing still wouldnt die.
then took an early 340 eltigre and stuffed a 440 4 plug dual carb motor in it. built the clutches and regeared it. man that thing pissed off alot of people! lol. that old pile would haul tail.
but the last three were a 95 zrt 800, 98 zrt 800, and an 01 thundercat 1000 with a BIG bottle of boost shoe horned under the back of the seat! thats the one that bit it at a high rate of speed.
i said i probably wouldnt buy another sled until the made one that would out do the thundercat. and as of last year it was still the fastest production sled built even though they stopped in 02. although this year they have a factory turbo 1000 with 177 horse....
I envy those of you in sled country. Here in the Hudson Valley it is hit or miss with regard to sledding conditions. I've been better served by my quads, although I have longed for a sled on occasion. My town descends into lawlessness with a significant snowfall.
Did anyone ever see a Snow Hawk? Those things are super sick! I was hoping to see one when I was riding the deep powder out west last winter, but I didn't. I saw there are even kits to make one out of a dirt bike. I may have to check into that...
i dont own a machine or ride alot but Im planning on going back to shoot the Iditarod this year. Last year I was assigned a machine to follow a musher. Looks like I'll be doing the same this year.
Yep, over 6" of the heavy wet stuff. I just got done with half the driveway. Midnight, this is bad neighbor payback! An 8 horse snowblower rattling windows till midnight, maybe the lady across the street will shut her barking dog up....Merry Christmas!!!
Buellinachinashop, this is a boat thread too? The boat is a 1980 Howard flattie. Casale V-drive with a 460 big block Chevy and wet stacks. Prop spins at 9,000 rpm with the 50% overdrive gear set. Idles at 16 mph. Like the Skidaddler,it had it's fair share of problems when I bought it. I had near every nut, bolt and washer out of it. Spent one summer in my garage before it hit the water. The best it gave me was 89 mph. Doesn't seem that fast, but on water,it's terrifying to passengers and nobody will go for a second ride.
For some reason, probably due to being as exposed as you are, boat speeds always seem faster than cage speeds. Some will say you could say the same about bikes, but I'd have to disagree by saying that boats rock and shake on the water, a much rougher ride than any bike or sled I've ridden. 60 mph in my boat seemed like 100 on land.
Had a couple of Ski-doo 640 TNT's back in the mid seventies. Then a Yamahammer 440 free air. Then I moved to Florida for fifteen years. Took a while to thaw out.
Oh yeah, it snowed like a sombich in East Tennessee today. We got about an inch in about a half hour. Big fat flakes. It was cool while it lasted.
Yep, I just used the snow blower on an additional 6" of heavy wet snow. If I drove on it now it would be packed down till April. I just yelled at my kid for not picking up the garbage cans at the end of the driveway. I'm sick with a cold, I have been playing out in the yard with the snow blower for 3+ hours yesterday and for 3+ today. Does anybody wonder why I am a little cranky, yeah its all good fun till somebody gets hurt. I think some of the old guys that have heart attacks do so to escape the misery of living around here.
I have a 2001 Skidoo 380 MXZ sitting by the garage. It used to be fun....
Oh yeah Ziptab! I used to race boats at Blarney Island on Fox Lake in IL. Youre right about goin fast on the water. It feels like youre haulin a#@. And yup, ya gotta be really careful about who you go fast with. Some people absolutely freak out on the water. My best on the water bis 96mph with a 22 ft Rapid Craft hooked up to an Evinrude XP300 2 stroke V8 bumped to about 400 hp., and a 32 in. Raker stainless prop. WHEW FUN!!!
maybe I can kill this thread again......Its STILL snowing, its still freezing, I had to put a dog down yesterday and the digging wasn't easy, I then flushed the heater core on the Big Kids car, I now have a small frozen pond infront of the garage that will be there until April.
For some reason I missed that movie. Looks like a good one! My boat has been referenced to the movie more than once. I think they used a Sanger flat bottom for that flick......
And now I have been sick for two weeks, I thought I was getting over it then Friday afternoon, BAM! Tylenol PM is now my new best friend. Its still snowing, more for this week and I was scheduled to go to the UP this week. I can't get my family to stay off the driveway till I get well enough to get it shoveled, they are packing it down and now it won't thaw out till April.
Oh, did I forget to mention....I haven't been able to ride for months now...and unless I roll something into the back of the pickup and drive a day or so south I probably won't ride till April anyways.
Has anybody heard from Newfiebuell? He has it worse than any of us. Maybe he was eaten by hungry villagers.
