How many of you dummies have earned a ticket for hucking a wheelie? Got my first on wednesday. Argh. One officer was spotting a block ahead, while the other was waiting and flagged me down. You gotta hate that little feeling of shame and knowing that all of the drivers passing by are thinking "what a jack ass". It was just an acceleration wheelie, showing off was not intended. I did not intend to realize my bikes full potential on the street. The leo was a good sport and suggested I fight it in court because a year from now, who knows if his partner would show up. The problem is keeping this from my wife. Hope none of our neighbors recognized me! | ||

Plead "Not Guilty" and take the bike IMMEDIATELY into the shop to have the clutch/tranny inspected and get a RECEIPT. That's what worked for my friend when he stupidly wheelied past a Dunkin Donuts... PS: It would help if you intentionally screwed up the clutch adjustment BEFORE dropping it off at the dealer so the receipt shows that work was done on it... my wife got a speeding ticket in her moms van a few years back so i took it and got the speedo checked/calibrated for accuracy and it actually was off in the wrong direction...but we took in the paperwork anyway and pleaded not guilty and the judge looked at the calibration paperwork and said "it looks like the speedometer was not working properly" and dropped it to improper equipment instead of speeding. no points on the license and no insurance hike, best $50 i ever spent. the clutch repair thing may be "the ticket" so to speak to get out of the ticket, and it might need the TPS reset as well. | ||

This is classified as a moving violation.First Offense: the violator must pay $1,000 plus any other costs assessed for a moving violation. Second Offense: the violator must pay a fine of $2,500, plus any other applicable costs assessed for a moving violation. The person’s driver license must be revoked for a period of one year.Third Offense: the violator will be charged with a third degree felony, punishable as provided in ss. 775.082, 775.083, and 775.084, a mandatory fine of $5,000, and the driver license must be revoked for a period of ten years. | ||

Well the ticket I got is really a great deal. Only $196 bucks and I save $25 if I pay it within 30 days. So really, my wheeling hobby only costs me mere cents a day considering this is the first one....The tough part is I get 3 'points' on my driving record that I also have to pay for at the end of the year. 6 points costs about $500, but the first 3 are free (what a deal). This ticket brings me up to 6. | ||

Umm, I got pulled over after pulling one up, and the cop had to finish his cell conversation. Once he did (I had no idea he saw the wheelie, he was hiding), he asked if I knew why he pulled me over. I told him I had no clue, he proceeded to tell me where he was parked. I then said, so you saw the wheelie (since no one else was around, I decided to pull it up), and he replied, "Yeah, that was AWESOME!" He said, be safe, and let me go. Mind you, I wasn't wearing a lid. Hopped on and rode away. Funny thing is, if any of you remember my parking lot spill last year, he pulled me over right in front of the exact spot she fell over at 3mph. LOL | ||

I've gone to jail for it, in Virginia Beach. Front tire was a whopping inch off the ground. Got caught with my tail light 3 inches from deck in FL. Got a warning for careless operation..... haha | ||

"Wheels loosing contact with the ground" laws are so freaking stoopid......... Suppose I seen that a manhole cover on the road was missing and did not have enough time to swerve? Pulling the front tire up is a effective technique of avoiding a serious crash when encountering large road debris. (Firewood chuncks, rocks, tree branches, small animals, ect) Obiviously most lawmakers have never rode a dirt bike...... | ||

"Pulling the front tire up is a effective technique of avoiding a serious crash when encountering large road debris" That's a fact. 20 years ago when I got my license, the WA state motorcycle operator student guide book said to: Slide back on the seat to unweight the front tire and accelerate briskly. I'm paraphrasing obviously, but that was the intent of the lesson. | ||

I got clocked on radar on my ZX-11 doing a 55 mph wheelie on Ortega Highway. The guys I was with ran when the cops tried to stop us. I just pulled over. The cop wrote me for too fast for conditions, with a safe speed on one wheel of zero mph. That means 55 mph over the limit in court. He did me a favor by not writing reckless or whatever the equivalent is in CA. However, the ticket made no sense at all when it got downtown, so I got off with traffic school. | ||

I got mine early on in my riding career. I got that KLR250 into second with the wheel off of the ground. Really impressed the other kids. Also REALLY impressed the cop that was right behind me at the stop sign. I tried to pass it off as an accident. nope. "failure to use caution while starting" I think it was $50 or something. That's the same blanket charge that's applied to smoke shows and other retarded stuff kids do. | ||

Went to court to fight the 1" wheelie, wasted my time, still got the ticket, 3 points and a fine. The officer even told the judge the front tire was no more than a couple inches off the ground for no more than 5 feet. I told the judge that 85lb ft on a 52 inch wheelbase it was difficult not to wheelie, he did not understand the math... | ||

I got one here in NY. He wrote me for an unsafe start but told me he could write it for reckless driving. So I thanked him and paid the $150 fine and 3 points rather then a lot more $ and 6 points. | ||

I should've had a few now. I underestimated the wheelying ability of a Firebolt...take it to redline in 1st and 2nd gear and its almost garunteed. Gotta lean forward! | ||

Got let off for one on the uly a week before the new Fl. law took effect. Supposedly he was the trooper who helped get the law going (according to him.) Think that used up my luck for a while. | ||

I have been pulled over a couple of times. Each time the wheelie was quite accidental. Pulling off the helmet and showing grey hair doesn't hurt - nor does handing him the insurance card covering the Harley (instead of the 1125R). More than once have heard "so you ride a Harley" - answer: "Yes - not as familiar with the acceleration on the sport bike".  | ||
