By the way- MS Virtual earth (just go to msn.com, hit 'maps' on the upper right, and then enter location info) has some great features which GE hasn't, (and vice-versa, by a long shot).
Enter location data, zoom in, then switch to "brids-eye" (Where avaialable), and change aspect directions, etc.

I use freeware constantly for (and I coined this one) "virtual trespassing" , that is, habitat evaluations for restricted parcels.
Great stuff- used to be relegated to using Tatux (.pl), then expensive Arc. (GIS) but freeware's really set many of us...er....free.

Nice one Glitch.

That first one is old, already made the TV news cycle and died.
I think they planted trees or something to help change the aerial view.

Actually, they just directed BUDs victims to rebuild it over a 14 day period, during a an El Nino event, without sleep, while chanting HOO-yah through runny noses

That's one heck of a crop circle.

Yeah, the bldg is old news, but you have to wonder...the architect MUST have known what the footprint looked like right? If I brought a floor plan like that to my boss, I'd get the boot.

I haven't been on that base for years. That pic brings back some cool memories. I'm trying to get my bearings. Is that gray building the chow hall and the E-club directly across by the water?

The last time I was there was a mess for our machine gun section. They sunk three 240Gs in the bay during a botched amphibious landing and then they had a guy fall off the rappel tower.

(Kind of my fault. Never underestimate the power of getting an entire platoon of Marines to flap their arms and make chicken noises at a guy too afraid to do fast-rope training, and never underestimate the consequences of that Marine subsequently failing to properly grab the rope. On the bright side, he set a new rapid descent record!)

I've never been stationed at Coronado, but from what I've read online the swastika shaped barracks are for seabees. I don't know who lives in the barracks that look like a bomber surounded by brackets.

Coincidentally, I had a GIS class today that entailed using GE+ for downloading GPS data....pretty damned simple, makes arc unnecessary for me

Froggy, any particular search you did to find them pics?
I've "driven" through my town a few times in hopes of finding something odd, not really though

Nicked them of Jalopnik.com , its a car blog and once in a while someone submits something funny they found. Among the other pictures I didn't post was Steve Jobs's Mercedes parked in his driveway, but as usual no license plate on his car.

Nothing exciting, but here's where I live. You can't quite see the house through the trees, but you can see the back end of the wife's Tahoe.

I can't believe; you can get this detail on Google earth. Last time I check in my town, the best you could get is a decent shot of rooftops.

Actually most of these pics are what they call "street level" view. It's very cool! You can "drive" down the street and rotate a full 360 degrees. The car Google uses has a big camera mounted on the roof and it's very obvious. Apparently some people spot them coming and put on a show.

Street view is more fun than google earth, unless you like airplanes in parking lots or Oprah crop circles.

I just checked. It looks like Fresno was actualy photographed quite extensivly. Just go to maps.google.com , put in your adress, and click "street view".

I rang my old man and told him the gutters at the back corner of the house need cleaning out.

he's 3,000km away. I can make out the strands of wire on the clothesline.

NZ isn't as hi-def yet and they are compiling street view currently. I saw the truck but was too late for a shocker.

Dave they would crop it out anyway, they intentionally blur peoples faces, license plates, and like the first picture i posted, they removed the one when she was flashing the car.

For around $20/yr., you can subscribe to the upgrade that allows GPS unit interface, take your coordinates, and when you get home, download them and generate polygons, track logs, routes, etc., with photographic overlays
