Looks like a nice predicate to dovetail into my "I am Buell" ad campaign idea.
Would be pretty cool if it didn't have such a cheeze-wiz 1995 feel ('90s rock clip-music, chop-editing).... It could have been an ad for any brand, I felt badly for Buell, while watching it, that it seems like the quality of ad that you'd see for the local 'Tractor Supply' dfranchise on your town's cable channel.
Posted on Sunday, November 02, 2008 - 05:15 Hammer makes me think of a great marketing campaign for Buell- Being as the riders, themselves, are an essential and primary force in setting the Buell marque apart,
An "I am Buell" ad series, chronicling Buellers twisting it up on their home roads would really bring more positive attention to the uniquely American sportbike brand. First installment: Hammer, The OC's "officer of the year" at Hawk's Nest. ...perfect way to bring more new riders into the fold
I want to see Buell commercials on TV. I want the brand to have some visibility.
This video is fine, but I think it looks like a piece produced for internal consumption rather than something released for the mass public. It's not bad, it just isn't as good as it could be.
Ft_bstrd, I don't even see HD commercials on TV, how are they going to do Buell. To be honest, I think Suzuki and Yamaha are the only ones I have seen on TV, and it was for cruisers.
I had a look at the vid (no sound at work ), and I like what I saw. It re-enforces what I think BMC is like - a company full of people who are really into what they do, making motorcycles .
Any idea how many of the riders in the video are Buell employee's?
Any guesses at what % of Buell employees ride and/or race? I wonder how that compares to other motorcycle manufacturers?
Hmm. Ditch the "maverick" line (thanks for ruining that one, McCain!), new, more aggressive music that consists of more than 3 chords, and more glitzy hi-tech FX.
Hmm. Ditch the "maverick" line (thanks for ruining that one, McCain!),...
hehehe, that and the MS "I'm a PC" commercials make it real hard to send up an "I'm [anything]" campaign. They're (MS) execution of the meme is getting worse/sadder with each commercial...

Aside from ripping off my "I am Buell" idea, the ad really just shows how out-of-touch the firm (Or at least their marketing flunkies) really is (are).
As a rider, I couldn't give two f*cks about shots of their assemblers behind the scenes, etc. You wanna sell a niche-boutique marque? Show us what makes it different.
Scenes of some nice assemblers could be for any make.
A Buell ad campaign should feature riders carving Buells out and kicking up sparks from metal knee-pads, with some nice, raw "Dropkick Murphys" music, and the SOUND OF A BUELL. Show the potential buyer what sets the marque apart and above, don't bore them with behind-the-scenes footage of assembly plants..
Those of you who actually
like
this marketing abortion already own Buells, so you already know all the good things about the marque, and you enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at BMC ops.
Sure, maybe some of you Buell-owners like the ad, but it's not designed for you. Should BMC continue to please its extant market with lame 1990s-feel ads, they've missed the point of advertising.
For the potential purchaser (That is, the only demographic at which this ad should be targeted ) this ad speaks very little, if at all, as to why he/she should consider a Buell.
And this is an unfortunate failing of BMC's marketing "geniuses"...a failing that could easily see our beloved marque flounder.

Damn Tramp, I take it you don't like the video... But like I said before "see my above post", something in the marketing "geniuses" feedback is saying this is the way to go, did you not look at the Ducati link I posted above, strikingly similar. As far as marketing failure is concerned take a look a the Kawasaki link as well "there’s a winner" the Buell video gets it done, it keeps your attention and makes you watch till the end, even for non Buell riders I have shown it to...
Just have marketing send us owners ("upon request" to stop a$$hats from hocking them on eBay as they do with all the other promo gear that never leaves the dealerships unless it is being shipped to the highest bidder "rant off") Buell promo packs to wear and promote as well as info stickers key chains etc. to hand out, (I would) and you have even cheaper marketing campaign tool...

It's NOT that I don't like the vid- It's that, by preaching to the choir, BMC is NOT creating any interest I the marque for new potential Buellers.
The effort of the vid is strictly masturbatory,, as there is little, if anything, i it to bring in new riders to the marque. You and I like it, but we're not the ones who need convincing.
