"Obama will lose the election by a wider margin than any candidate in recent history. This may well surpass the Reagan defeat of Carter".

I bookmarked that post just so I could recount it here on the board if need be. Classic Blake.

Well, you've sure showed HIM what you're made of.

Of course, that remark was made before a few things happened, ya know, like the economy plummeting?

But, you were right. He was wrong. Enjoy it this way if you must.

I personally was hoping we could put all the snipping and crap-talk behind us now that he election all over.

Guess a few more days won't kill us.

Quip on!

Personally, I plan to make the best of the next four years thru sarcasm and cynical comments.

Reserving my own feelings about this, I will say that this is a motorcycling board, owned by a man who's consistently supported our PRESIDENT, and who stood by his feelings for said support.

Whether or not I agree with said president, I as an American, support my president, whomever that may be.

As a Buell riding participant of this board, I support Blake.

I will support our new president wholeheartedly.

What Road Thing said!

I'm not thrilled about the policy differences President Obama and I have, but I am (seriously) happy to see a minority president.

He is going to be our President, the county has spoken, and I will do what I can to make it a successful presidency.

What Tramp said....

What Road Thing said...

And hey!

I thought Bush was a total disaster, but I was still proud to be an American. Hell, I volunteered to go to Iraq even though I didn't agree with the war in the first place. I know at least a dozen people who did the exact same thing.

When America calls, Americans answer. It's just the way it works. It doesn't matter who is in the White House, or what political party is in power. It's still the United States of America. It pays to remember that.

I'm excited to see what the future holds with Obama, but I would have supported McCain just as solidly.

I thought his concession speech was extremely powerful. I hope it sets the tone for the next 4 years. Actually, I hope it sets the tone for the next 40 years.

Bill

The sting of defeat of a candidate I've supported since 2000 was soothed by the sight of so many standing in a Chicago park waving American flags for, perhaps, the first time in their lives.

It's encouraging to see a whole new subset of people who felt marginalized and, perhaps, would have preferred to burn the flag now feeling pride in holding it high.

This could be the right thing at the right time and only time will tell. I'll give it four years and make a decision then.

Custodial staffers:
This thread has some really outstanding thoughts, and could be improved only by a title change-
I see no reason to advertise a thread title that attempts to impugn the very man who brings us this excellent board.

Please change the title

The statement that I enjoyed most from Obama was "We are not red states, we are not blue states but we are the United States of America".

May not be word for word correct but you get what he was trying to say.

Great speeches from both men last night!!

While watching the election coverage on tv last night, my 5 year old looked at me and made a speech. It started with "I pledge allegiance to the flag...." It was the most beautiful speech I have ever heard.

Are we all falling into the hypnotic trance of the great one? Judge a man by his actions, not his words, his skin color, his wife or anything else. i just don't happen to be as optimistic as some in this thread.

I'm not hypnotized. I still don't agree with him. And I certainly don't agree with some of the reasons that those who agree with him gave as their reasons for voting. It makes me sad that some percentage of people feel that way. Not shocked - but a little sad.

But short of him doing something impeachable, he's the man for the next 4 years.

So I choose, rather than bitching about it, to at least TRY to be optimistic. Snide comments are fun, don't get me wrong, I'm just exhausted from the last two years of snide comments, and I'm done.

I plan to judge him by his actions, once he actually performs some.

But no, I'm not hypnotized.

Not sure what's not classy about my next post, but I'm not going to lie and say I agree with him when I don't.

I think there's room for both posts to be true. I'm trying to be optimistic, I'm hoping for the best, but I'm not suddenly going to agree with him, or with the people that voted for him.

I think snide comments are wasted time at this point.

And I vehemently hope I've been wrong about him all this time. I genuinely want him to do well, for many reasons, not the least of which is that I want the country to succeed.

So what's not classy about that? Eh? Mr. Class? ; )

At this point, let's just get this thing rolling, to see how bad or how good Obama is going to be.

Didn't spoil it for me, sounds honest, what more can you ask?

The rest of the world outside the US feels much the same I reckon.

I've not bothered watching the news for the last week because of the wall to wall coverage, & I'm in France!
I can only imagine the saturation you guys have had.

That said, everybody I know says, wait & see but he can't be worse than the present incumbent.

Not taking any sides here, just telling what I hear.

Put me solidly in line with most the thoughts in this thread save the childish opening volley which was mouthspew.

He's our President and we are facing the toughest times in the history of this country.

The campaign was the time for airing differences of opinions, it's over.

Now is a poor time in the history of the United States to no be unified.

McCain's concession speech may have been his best speech throughout the campaign. There is no doubt this guy is an American Hero and I suspect Obama know he needed John McCain.

I was proud to be an American yesterday win, loose or draw for my candidate. There are still countries in the world where we could not hold this conversation.

P.S. - I also feel sorry for the gal who voted in front of me who REALLY expects, she was quite vocal, that something akin to rent subsistence is imminent. She really thought that some wealthy Wall Streeter was going to be picking up some of her rent tab soon. I could see, based on some of the ridiculous media accounts, how she may have been mislead.

I agree completely. While not my choice of candidate, President-elect Obama fully has my support and respect.

You can respect the office and thereby show respect for the person who holds that office while still keeping a close critical eye on what they do while in office.

I have concerns, but what's done is done, and I do not expect anyone to pick up the payments for my mortgage. I will be, however, dusting off my binoculars to keep an eye on the horizons. As to my support, that depends upon what he does. YMMV.
