With hunting season here, don't become complacent about gun safety.

Guns are not toys, even with supervision, kids (and some adults) don't understand what they are doing.

Keep your guns locked up at all times, even three year olds know how to shoot one, and will kill you.

WARNING the video in this link is disturbing.

Guns don't care who shoots them, or what they are shot at, that's your job.

When guns are fool-proof, only fools will have...no, wait a minute...

To bad the father wasn't hit, it could have been a Darwin Award two-fer.
Honestly, he let his 8yr old kid shoot a fully-automatic weapon! WTF was he thinking?

Only a moron would let an 8 year old kid shoot an automatic submachine gun. The kid's father was a doctor too, I can't believe he let his son do it. Props to my own father who wouldn't let me shoot an AK-47 when I was 15. I'm sure I could have handled it, but his decision was final, no discussion, no BS, just 'no'.

The second guy deserved it.

Not sure if we saw the same vid but the guy does get hit. I love these vids, natural selection/darwinism at it's best.

When I was 14, I got a cool issue mummy bag and a nice new 30 cal. M1 carbine

but then, I was a responsible goddam kid who already owned a 12 ga. Stevens side by side and a Win. mod. 94 30-30

When my dad was a teenager, he was out shooting with a friend. When my dad went into the barn to get more targets, his friend thought it would be funny to scare my dad by shooting a round into that barn while he was in there. He didn't just scare my dad, he hit him square in the chest. My uncle told me it didn't look like he was going to make it, but eventually he pulled through. His chest looks like a road-map of scars because of it.

It set the tone for the rest of his life when it came to gun safety. He raised me to treat every gun like it was loaded... etc... etc...

Just a few years ago, he got a rifle sent to his office (Argentinian Mauser I think). As he was taking it out of the packaging it went off. The moron had sent it with a round in the chamber.

Those are just two reminders of why you can never let your guard down.

What an idiot! Hand a small child a loaded cocked gun and not watching him. He got to learn the hard way. And if the guy in the first post had ever fired an uzi he should have know that they are very unpredictable and the muzzle tends to go every where but where you want it to. If he hadn't shot an uzi, he should have before he gave it to his kid. It's people like this that the anti gun folks love. rules of guns-It's ALWAYS loaded. Never point it at anything you don't want to put a hole in. Never put your finger on the trigger until you're ready to fire. And for Gods sake if you're going to give it to a kid please keep an eye on the kid. My kid wanted me to teach him how to shoot so I told him those 3 rules and when I asked him to repeat them he made a joke. Saying "don't kill anybody". It was obvious to me he wasn't ready for that responsability. I will ask him again and see what happens. We must teach our kids (and ourselves) proper respect for firearms. I can't wait to teach my son how to shoot, but I won't risk his, my or anybodyelses safety if he's not ready.

I've been shooting since I was around 8 also, though not an Uzi. I have fired an Uzi full-auto on more than one occasion, and know that they will rise up on you if you fire a sustained string of fire (that's the reason for the common recommendation of short bursts-keeps the shots on target). I've been thinking about this accident, and it sounds like they put a full clip in the gun, or at least more than a couple rounds. Maybe also didn't use the shoulder stock, which would have helped. Shouldn't ever give a new shooter a full-auto with more than 3 rounds or so, in case they have trouble hanging onto it! I'm sure a moment's oversight resulted in this tragedy, as I have to believe the range guys would have known this...hate to hear about things like that happening!
