http://www.dailyprogress.com/cdp/news/national/art icle/feds_bust_outlaw_bikers_in_undercover_operati on/29900/

If you've read about the Mongols being infiltrated by the feds and busted, you may have caught where the government wants to confiscate the trademark and rights to the Mongol MC name and prevent club members not arrested -- and I'm assuming the general public -- from ever using the name again.

In fact, the feds say they could "take the jackets off their backs" if the government gets the trademark.

Let's hope the Elks Club doesn't P.O. the gubmint.

What on earth does this have to do with being liberal, or defensive of free speech and the 1st Amendment?

Who lead you to believe that this is something that a Democratic President would encourage?

We go from a really quality conversation about Obama being supported by Powell to this?

The Mongols lose Mongols Incorporated because they are a criminal organization and it is a sign of the liberal agenda?

Quite a leap.

Bill

The feds will have to pry my "Battletwins" patch off my jacket should the sad event ever come to fruition.

Who're the Mongols?

+ a million on Tramps statement. Most of them are recruited from the Mexican gangs in Southern Cali. which started as a campaign to bolster ranks after the Laughlin River Run incident. I would definitely prefer to know who and or what I'm dealing with. Seems like the 81 will be having a party as the feds did them a favor.

We're going through a situation down here.

There are two Maori gangs at perpetual war and there is moves afoot to ban gang patches in the town of Wanganui.

I agree with Tramp - and one of the councilors who is objecting.

Taking their jackets off them will not modify criminal behavior - if anything it will exacerbate it.

Th Sons of Monarchy are not to be messed with. Watch out for the boys in the patched sweater vests. They're usually packing croquet mallets and wusthof cutlery. You want to find out if your blood runs blue, then f*&k with those guys. You're liable to get a finger bowl up yer arse.

The only one that brought Obama to the table was Bill, I never mentioned him at all.

And anybody that has a registered trademark and intellectual property tied to a brand should be very wary of that kind o Cr@p from Washington, I dont give 2 Shi@tes as to who is in office. That type of thing doesnt bode well.

(and if you followed politics outside of the election, you would realize that there is an institutional malaise from washington no matter who is in the house; really I would rather have somebody that is ineffectual and does nothing than somebody that starts to tinker with the foundations of capitalism for some agenda. Go read Adam Smith and tell me what party he was. )

The government is getting out of hand.
Why does the government suddenly think that the solution to any problem is to own it?

Someone smoked one of them on the freeway, about a mile from my house, last week. CLOSED the 210/2 freeways for half a day.
Assailant unknown - probably not some other LA street gang member, as this one was a skilled marksman and no innocent bystanding 9-year-olds were hit. Shot off his bike at speed.
Their organization is rather unpopular here in So Cal, it seems.

PS - +1 on what Tramp said - I prefer to know who it is so as to initiate avoidance tactics as required.

If they take their patches how does that help? They are still criminals, (assuming they are) now they are just criminals without patches? They could just change the name from the Mongols to the Monguls? I'd rather them have the patch so I know not to give the finger if they piss me off...If the politicians take the patches, they get to say they disbanded the Mongols and fixed the problem. Kinda like make guns iligal for law obidding citizens and say they "took them off the streets" when they took them out of the houses. it's all in the wording...

Hey Glitch, I would assume that because the government is nothing but a huge phugging problem it only seems natural to them/it. If this scumbag government does actually pull it off, I think that all the stuffed shirts in DC should have to wear "their" "new" colors when on official business. That would be neat.

This should be an interesting spin in order to take their colors. It could end up with more fed power to squish and control anything they don't like.

Skinstains, A suit and cut on official .gov business? Agents of Mongol? Doubt it, but they may copy them and somewhere in some office will hang a cut as a trophy.

I really have to start drinking cause it's the only way any of that is going to seem like a good idea.

There's a world of difference between, simply, a registered mark and a corporation.

quote:

From Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, 1594:

JULIET:
'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;

So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.

So the crime fighters can't stop crime so they simply take the name . . . well, that ought to make us all safer.

These, I presume, are the same keystone cops that put and end to organized crime in New York City construction? The same government that "improved" (thanks Hillary) education by simply shifting the curve and calling a "D" a "B" . . . yeah, that's working dandy.

And now a word from the local liberal, first-amendment type, weenie:

Won't it be interesting to be able to wear a swastika or the word Nazi on your jacket or even a KKK robe (can't wear the mask in Virginia) but you can't wear a Mongols cut?

PURELY FOR DISCUSSION: What if H-D's association with the Mongols is deemed to be aiding and abetting in a material manner the illegal activity? Can the guvmint take the H-D brand and make the company change the name of the bikes it makes?

(Buell, Cagiva and MV Agusta would be fall-back choices, I'm sure) The possible implications of this are fascinating.
