Looking for a top of the line shoulder holster for my 45 auto 1911. I'll wear it a lot when I ride, so if you know of some other type of holsters that don't get in the way while in a riding position, let me know. Right now all I'm looking at is Bianchi intl. They have a few different models but I'd like to get some input.. I want to buy a good one now so that I'll never want to upgrade.

Get out of California. It's too bad such a beautiful state has been turned into a commune. |

I think small of back makes the most sense or tank bag, at least for a commander or officer size gun. But I rarely find myself engaged in gun battles while riding. 3 or 4 a month, tops. Kidding. This assumes that you aren't riding double, have a jacket that will conceal such a rig etc. Give 'em a look maybe. Nice thing with 1911's is they're so flat and thin. Shoulder rigs don't seem very versatile. With a small of back you can wear them almost anywhere any weather. The real downside with the SOB is in a car. But then shoulder rigs aren't great in a car either. |

I carry IWB all year round. I carry a Kimber Custom II as my ccw gun. I even wear it when I am on my 1125r. I will admit that there are times when I get a little uncomfortable. But all in all I really like the setup. I have looked into a shoulder rig for fall and winter but I haven't made my mind up. I am in the market for a new IWB holster. My boxer/american bulldog mix chewed on mine. It is still usable but not pretty. |

I carry a glock 23 I found any cross draw shoulder rig works well as you have easy actess while siting or driving I like the kirkpatrick texas cross draw you can carry it on your belt or on a shoulder strap. check it out at kirkpatrick leatheer company .com I found S.O.B a little hard to get at while on bike. |

I carry a Custom II also and I wouldn't feel comfortable with an IWB on a bike. Not with the amount of moving we do on a sport bike anyhow... |

If I was going to carry on my bike, I'd use my pocket holster with my Keltec 3AT in the tank or tail bag. I don't usually carry while riding my bike. |

I carry inside the waistband on my strong side. I strongly advise against carrying small of the back while on a bike, If you have an unfortunate dismount and land on the gun you could break your back at the base of the spine. I know inside the waistband I could break a hip landing on the gun, but to me that's much better than chancing paralization. I'd say go for an ankle holster, but you'd have to get a smaller gun |

Everything I've looked at so far is making me think if I want to carry on the bike - I'll need a smaller gun. |

I see your point regarding SOB. I guess it's just what I'm used to but I do think you're wise to caution against it for the reason you site. I'm only 120 - 125lbs so for me it was the only viable option for carrying a gun that's chambered for a defense round. Under a t shirt or heavy jacket, same rig, same gun. But a broken back doesn't sound very fun. |

I carry a S&W .40 all the time. I went down a few years ago with a full-sized Leatherman on my hip and boy does that suck. I'd recommend against carrying any kind of solid metallic object on your body -- tank bag is perfect. YMMV |

I sometimes carry my glock 27 in a light weight shoulder rig. But more often in an in the pants belt holster. Both are comfortable on a bike. The problem with a shoulder rig is concealment when you want to take off your jacket, in a restaurant for example. My next holster will be a kangaroo http://www.kangarooind.com/ my son wears one of these to carry his back up weapon. He says it is very comfortable, but he is wearing it over a bullet proof vest. |

I just bought Bianchi. Does anyone know a decent gunsmith in Eastern Pennsylvania? By the way . . . New York City is MUCH worse that CA. I left my guns in Kansas and wouldn't dream of bringing them to NYC. My riding partner, late in doing his annual registration by like 3 weeks, had the NYPD appear at his house, take all his guns (he has a pretty wild collection) and he had to go through months of paperwork to get them returned. Most of the time I ride with a capital PD and a NRA instructor. They carry Glock 40 and a SIG 45 both of them wear these gun pack bags all of the time. The packs have a draw string to pull the gun out of the holster fast. Here is a picture of what they wear http://www.copsplus.com/prodnum2513.php Court, you have to check out the Silverado Gun Shows I know it goes up into PA. I just picked up a M-5 K |

Funny you posted that . . . I am heading over to Copsplus (here in Astoria) this morning to exchange 4 speedloaders. I miss being in Kansas where I could walk into Everett's Hardware and buy a Ruger Single-Six while my lunch order was being prepared next door. You don't dare even get a gun near NYC and I used to love going out target shooting on weekends with my Challengers. |

As much as I love my Colt, my walk around gun is a Keltec .32. Small, light and fits in a pocket with or without a pocket holster. Granted a .32 isn't gonna make anyone go down hard. It would be more like a sharp stick to the face. A double tap the the torso will slow them down enough for me to clear the area. If I want to go somewhere I think there is likely to be trouble, I don't go. Instead I'll be two counties over flirting with a barmaid and staying out of trouble's way. |

Dude, you need to learn how to duck better. I do remember hearing something about a drive by you were involved with but don't know any details. Didn't sound like any fun at all. Oh, one more thing: Find you're own barmaid to flirt with. I'm so ugly that most won't look twice. I only flirt with the near sighted ones....lol |

>>>>Sounds like another great set of stories we'll never get to hear. Nah . . you're just too young. Made the front page of the New York and LA papers the same day. Still one of the largest drive by shootings in the USA. I was in hiding and protective custody until the trial. Weird times. But it taught me a lot about what REALLY happens in a shooting and always makes me a bit of a pundit when folks casually talk tough with the "I'd just shoot'em" swagger. I'm a huge fan of the Masas Ayood school of thought that carrying a concealed weapon confers a much higher duty to stay as clear of trouble as possible. I don't preach to anyone, but I have some pretty well established personal convictions and beliefs about handguns, self defense and ever being a victim again. Everyone's situation is different. |
