A few years back I was hit (on my bike) by a young driver while going through an intersection. Almost killed me but I've made a good comeback. Yesterday my son (also a young driver) ran a stop sign and hit a car. An elderly woman riding in that car died at the hospital. Not sure what I'm trying to say except: be careful. EVERYTHING can change in a single moment. I've now experience both sides of the fence and neither is a good place to be... for either side of one of these unfortunate incidents. Sorry to hear this, and yes things can change in a heartbeat. My brother's girlfriend years ago was involved in an accident with a motorcyclist and he later died at the hospital. A hard lesson learned and something to carry with you for the rest of your life but hopefully can learn from and teach others the dangers of the road, | ||

I hope he is getting counciling. Too much of a burden for a kid (or adult) to deal with. | ||

Running red lights and stop signs has become a huge problem in this country. Everyone is in such a rush all the time and/or somehow distracted by every possible entertainment device being used while you drive. I was getting gas at the 7-11 near my office at a major intersection late the other night when I heard someone hit their brakes hard. I looked up in time to see the car running the red light and almost clean out 2 motorcycles proceeding through the intersection. It was raining, so this could have turned out badly and I expected it to upon first glance, but the bikers appeared to be experienced and were proceeding with great caution and managed to avoid a bad accident. | ||

sorry to hear this, my condolonces to the family of the deceased, and a heart felt I'm sorry to hear this to your son, I hope that he can get some help now, and later as he heals he can use his experience for the better by sharing, His witness of the event to his friends and others may [ no WILL ] help make a difference some where down the line and lives will be saved. | ||

I ran a light back in high school and clobbered a guy. I was in a '67 Dodge pickup, other dude was in a Ford Probe. I was on my way to a concert, and by the time I saw the light changing, I knew I couldn't get the truck stopped (my equipped mudder tires slid bad on asphalt), so I cruised on through. It wasn't pretty. They didn't know if he was going to make it for awhile. I was an absolute wreck. I was SO mad at myself, I had crying fits for a couple of days. Luckily the guy healed up. I don't really know where I was going with all that. Best of luck to your son. ~SM | ||

How awful, I am so sorry (like you say) for everybody on both sides. A good reason to slow down, take a deep breath, and drive (and ride) extra careful. |
