For my fellow geeks-

A couple guys from work have gotten into playing GTR-Evolution recently and decided to start a championship. We have a server set up and will be hosting a race every Thursday night for the next few weeks. The first race of the championship will be held tonight. If you're interested in joining us the details can be found here: http://www.cryohold.com/nceuro/

Chinashop, Moto GP 07 got good reviews. I can't get into it and don't have a ton of time to dedicate to it... I like games I can hop in and play for an hour and shut it off for a few weeks.

First race of championship is complete, that was a really great race. All of us had a few off-track excursions, but only one of us DNF'd. Consistency ruled and I managed to finish first despite not being the fastest guy on the track. Looking forward to next week's race.

Anyone want to join?

motogp '07 kinda sucks (IMO) played it on XBOX360. Controls are all awkward.

So when's the next Championship?

Next race is Thursday 10/2/2008. Server should be open for practice now. Qualifying starts at 8pm EST, race will start at 8:30pm EST. All the other details (including server name and password) are listed here: http://www.cryohold.com/nceuro/ If you're available that night feel free to join us.

I got to practice the track (Magny-Cours) for the first time last night, it's a tricky place. Should make for a fun race.

Some of the guys we race with...

Justin Wilson races in iRacing as well but I couldn't find him in the stats.

There are also a LOT of professionals from other series that use this simulator. I just don't know all their names. I know that the Pro Legends road race national champ does, as well as his oval counterpart.

Oh that 113 for AJ... that's overall, not any of the championships he's currently racing in.

Tourist Trophy on PS2 - greatest bike game i've ever played. (produced by the makers of gran turismo)

I think motogp07 is as good as it gets for the 360, unfortunately.

Spike - the championship looks like a lot of fun, but my pc barely handles more than 1 firefox tab open at a time

Things just got more interesting: the forecast calls for rain in Paris tomorrow, so we might be racing in the rain.

I've yet to turn a wheel on a wet track in this game. : )

Another great race has come to completion. Rain really threw off everyone. With no driver aids it was hard work just trying to keep the car on the track.

In practice last night I was leading the board with a 1:59.x, but really struggling to get the GT2 Corvette set up properly. After I went to bed Ringtech followed up with a 1:58.x. This afternoon Janis turned in some practice laps and clicked off a 1:56.9. In the pre-race practice I worked my way down to a 1:56.x of my own, but Janis had worked his way down into the 1:55s. I kept tweaking the setup trying to add more bite to the front end and finally managed to earn the pole with a 1:54.x.

The race turned out to be even more intense than the qualifying. As usual I struggled to get the car off the line, so I went into T1 in 3rd. Ringtech managed to take 1st place quickly while Janis and I fought for 2nd place. We made contact a few times, but none to serious. Janis and I finally separated and I settled into a 2nd place spot behind Ringtech. I knew I was quicker than Ringtech overall, but I didn't want to blow the race trying too hard to pass him early. I followed him for a few laps looking for a place to get by and realized I didn't have a good place to make a clean pass. I decided to pace him and keep the pressure on to see if he would make a mistake. He proved to be very consistent, but finally after 8 laps he made a big enough bobble that I was able to get by. He managed to stay right with me after the pass though, so I knew my first big mistake was going to cost me the lead position. I did everything I could to keep putting in quick laps without mistakes, but Ringtech was still right there. At the start of the final lap Ringtech got out of shape on the start finish line and made contact with the wall. His car was still running, but a flat tire meant he would have to limp his way through the final lap. It was the first time in the entire race where I had some breathing room. Rujuco had been hanging on to 3rd place for most of the race, but his patience paid off as he was able to pass Ringtech on the final lap to finish in 2nd place. Ringtech managed to finish 3rd. Unfortunately Janis was having trouble with his arm (recently broken at Barber on his GSX-R) and wasn't able to finish the race. Once again, consistency ruled and I managed to score another win. As an added bonus, I turned in the quickest lap of the race, so I rack up 13 points for this event. I'm really looking forward to the next race, hopefully we'll be back to dry conditions.

Next week's race is at Brno. Some of the guys were starting to practice tonight, so expect the competition will only get tougher for the next round.
