The reason the Berlin wall fell was Bay Watch. The Soviets just couldnt spy on that much longer and know that Hasselhoff was getting all the hot western girls. Pamela Anderson is responsible for the freedom of Eastern Europe and should be praised as a hero of our time... PS some of the girls that dared to bare back in the 80s are now undoubtedly grandmothers. Maybe grandma is responsible for the decline of our society.

I'm with swordsman. People claiming they know what is best for me or others is a problem when our actions aren't hurting anyone.

My liberal weenie mountain bike friends threw a fit the other day when I gave a guy in a 911 turbo the thumbs up. They said people should not be able to own cars that expensive or fast.

It goes both ways though. Patriot act gets the thumbs down from me. Let me end this post the same way I do for all quasi political threads I respond to.

Vote Libertarian!

Agree completely GS. The issue is whether others should have to witness the actions of others involuntarily. Were I downtown with my family, I wouldn't want them to see the parade.

The public spectacle was the point.

GS, is it only liberals who want to ban things? I totally forgot how much the Moral Majority, Pat Robertsons and jerry Falwells hate freedom and boobies, those liberal bastards! Or even that ultra-lib John Ashcroft who covered up the boobs on statues in D.C.! Whatta lefty!

For crying out loud cover those devil bags immediatly, before something terrible happens. Look at how Europe is falling apart because of the topless women on their beaches, televisions, and newspapers. Naked teats are the only reason the Euro is down to only double our dollar already. That's it Mastectomies for all women and fat men on their 18th birthday.

B00 reread my post. I said it goes both ways.

I do feel liberals are more imposing with their beliefs and that all should share their beliefs. The religious right is pretty bad as well I suppose. "You don't love Jesus? You're gonna love Jesus you son of a bitch!" Just as bad to me as people saying others should not be allowed to own 911s. Yeah it goes both ways.

Live and let live people!

MOST of the problem with nudity, at least in America, is that people automatically associate nudity with sex. They really are two different things. Try nursing in public sometime and see the looks you get. Is nursing sexual? ABSOLUTELY not. But in America, if it involves a boob, it's evil and sexual and you better hide it away!!!!

I'm trying to raise my kids to not have wierd body issues, to not be ashamed of certain parts of their body. Kids wouldn't know that being naked was bad unless someone told them that.

Unfortunately, I have to teach them to cover up to exist in society, because society seems to think that boobies are evil, and anyone who enjoys looking at boobies (or at least ADMITS to it) are evil.

Boob magazines wouldn't even have to exist if everyone wasn't so sheltered as youths. For that matter, if younger people knew what beer or wine tasted like, and were taught to be responsible about it, they wouldn't go crazy when they got to college either. Maybe. We won't know until we try, and we never will, because everyone has already decided what evil is, and I guess I just have to go along with that.

I wish everyone would just grow up.

unfortunately, "everyone" may be asking a bit much.

i'd settle for the majority.

Yeah, Michelle, but you have to admit that your example, nursing, is a singular example (or nearly singular). Most cities also have bans on urinating and defecating in public. These are naked, natural acts. Why wouldn't we want to allow that? It isn't just the "waste disposal" component of the act. Hell you could crap in a cup and probably make a movie about it. It's that it's entirely inappropriate for someone to expose themselves involuntarily to others. If someone wants to find someone naked, they can.

Voluntarily.

The OP was regarding having a "hooters out" biker parade in your town. I can absolutely guarantee it wouldn't happen in my town. The INTENT of that parade isn't to create awareness of breast feeding. It's intent is to titillate, to tease, and to cause a spectacle. The intent is to be seen and to incite a sexual association.

Now if these biker "chicks" had made a life decision to ride tits out all the time and wanted to demonstrate the value of such a life decision, that would be different. I doubt you'd want to see the "fun bags" in question as they'd be burnt black and covered in bug guts, but it would make more sense.

Would there be a crowd of people gathering to watch a parade of women nursing? Same boobs, right? The reason for the parade is to invoke the sexual association. The reason for the viewership is people wishing to fulfill the observation of the spectacle due to the parade's sexual association.

In this day and age, I don't think there is an American citizen who is "sexually repressed". If you want to find it, you can.

Anywhere.

Parades not required.

The reason for the parade is to invoke the sexual association. The reason for the viewership is people wishing to fulfill the observation of the spectacle due to the parade's sexual association.
I guess my point was that if people could see boobs everywhere, if it was no big deal, then they wouldn't have to go to this degree. They'd be riding with their boobs out and no one would care.

And I wish people would stop associating breast feeding with defecating. That is really degrading. I'm sure it isn't meant that way, but I'd like to draw a distinction between feeding my child and crapping on the sidewalk. Cleanup or no.

Americans ARE sexually repressed. They express their sexuality behind locked doors in sealed rooms on some PC paying too much for internet porn. They use sex and the taboo-ness of it to sell things. To get movie ratings. To inspire controversy and conversation - much like we're having here.

What if none of that existed because everyone was just, comfortable with nudity? or comfortable with sexuality?

What on earth would we talk about??

That commercial where the family ends up at a nude beach by accident because their phone service isn't working always cracks me up. The parents are all upset, and you can hear a kid saying "why are those people naked?"

My response would be, well, because they want to be. No one was humping anyone. Is that sexual? I don't think so - unless the viewER sees it as such.

Everyone worries about protecting the kids from the nakedness. If it were up to most kids, they'd be naked all day long. I know mine would. Obviously that won't work as they join polite society.

But I'm envious of their complete lack of shame, or of self-consciousness. I wish I had that. I hate to take it away from them.

And yet I will. To conform with the rest of the country who is ashamed of their body parts.

Natural processes are natural processes.

There is a distinction between breast feeding and the other, but not when it comes to nakedness.

The human body does what it needs to to operate the natural process. Even though the end "product" isn't pleasant, the process is quite elegant from a strictly biological, mechanical, and chemical standpoint.

Even if naked were socially accepted, it would still be a rarity. The logistics of it make nudity impractical.

Would you really want to know when your male co-workers found you attractive or when they were distracted by a "daydream"?

Would you really like to see John McCain naked during the debates?

I'm pretty sure Mrs. Karnowski, my HS history teacher, would have been much more difficult to listen to were her 5'1" 230lb frame not draped with a covering.

What about that special, very natural time of the month. That creates some real problems with a natural state mode of nakedness.

I don't think your kids should have any weird hang ups about their bodies. My kids don't. They simply understand that their bodies are their own (and eventually their spouses) to enjoy and not to be given to others.

My kids will be some of the least repressed, most clothed kids you will see.

Meet me in person, and you'll understand why. : D

personally, i find stupidity FAR more offensive than nudity.

one dumba$$ will create more damage, pain and misery than all the nakid boobs on the planet.

society makes everyone get dressed, but dosen't really do much for the dumbest amongst us. for example, see the "busted at 140+" or "SUV vs M/C" threads.

Try Hooters food sometime. Seeing a pattern here? My son, in Portland, just went on a 50 mile naked bike ride. Apparently Portland turns out a HUGE crowd for this annual event.
