Anybody want to guess WHY enforcement is getting so heavy on our highways and mountain roads?

Anybody want to defend these "gentlemen" who were on their way to some bullsh!t fundraiser?

Hope they lose their freaking bikes.

Wow. A hundred and fourty MPH on a highway where obviously there was other traffic(cops). Pretty damn goofy if you ask me. Im not applying for the sainthood here but when I do my stupid stuff, its out on some desolate straitaway where I can still get killed by a stray bird,porkypine,moose...or just a defective tire....

Whoa! I barely missed that.
I drove to Daphne this morning and was coming across the Causeway (right underneath the I-10 Bayway) at about 10am.

I'm glad they busted these guys. It's probably a lot of the same ones that do 80mph+ wheelies in traffic.

Edit: I'll have to see if I can catch the pres. of the Pacesetters tomorrow and get the inside scoop (we work together). If he was talking to the press it was probably some of his boys.
I rode in a benefit rally last weekend for a little girl... I'm not sure what the odds are that they'd be holding back to back charity sportbike rallys, I haven't heard of any this weekend... sounds like BS.

>>>>Anybody want to guess WHY enforcement is getting so heavy on our highways and mountain roads?

I was at Bear Mountain in New York yesterday.

Given that, other than the trikes, Gold Wings and BMW touring bikes, MOST the folks were acting like total frickin' idiots I see it as only a matter of time until sweeping regulations are placed on sportbikes.

The folks there yesterday were plain and simple placing innocent people in grave danger.

I saw two bikes, likely totaled, being hauled away on their sides on tilt beds.

A couple weekends ago a young GSXR lane splitter became "splitter splatter" and closed the LIE on a Friday afternoon for 4 hours.

It's the reason that I find one day a week (generally), leave at 0430, do my 500 or 600 miles of peaceful therapy and stick to 4 wheeled weekends.

It cracks me up that they felt the need to mention the fact that the bikers were on their way to a fund raiser at the end of that news spot. Who gives a crap! I suppose they were late too and that was their excuse for running that fast on a public road.

Yep, that's dumb.....}

Now if they could just go after some of these coffee drinking, makeup applying, reading the paper, 3 lane crossing, dvd watching, messing with their kids, text messaging, SUV "drivers" I'd actually feel safer.

Their are lots of ways to endanger others.

}I see it as only a matter of time until sweeping regulations are placed on sportbikes.
yeah, and all those cars that can go over the speed limit too, porsche, lambo, benz, mustangs, viper, ford gt, salleen......

Maybe we should have to work harder to get a license for a car or a bike- like in Europe, where they actually expect you to know how your car works and how to maintain it and you have to PAY and work for a license.

We call it a driving privilege but give licenses away like they were in a gum ball machine.

Truth is the way we decided to structure this place, motorized transportation is a necessity. How else is someone going to travel 60 miles away to work for minimum wage, and be held under full time at walmart?

BTW- when I went to insure the Buell I was told that ALL Buells are sportbikes so..... so much for that cheaper insurance due to crash worthiness and frame pucks like I remember reading.

While I am not disagreeing with you . . I do have a problem with trying to make stupid people appear smarter simply by finder stupider people.

You are correct that driver training in the United States is basically little more than proving you can get a sub-compact around a deserted block without hitting anything.

. . . and please leave the Porsches out of this . . . at least until after next weekend.

Yeah, not excusing them^^^^ what I really meant was that I am almost killed by idiots NOT driving their cars WAY more often than I see idiot bikers.

And we have lots of each down here in the road rage capital of the country.

Discriminate against them for a while, and make some specific yet vague laws for them, and enforce them.

Lawyers, judges, cops, firefighters all ride sportbikes too, probably even preachers. Lots of military and many of them are the ones getting killed thus the military has started biker education.

Can't tie a person to the type of vehicle.

Just like one abusive cop ruins it for the rest, it is always the bad ones who stand out.

And we are such a bunch of knee jerk, panic induced, do something to save the children minded society... we tend to act stupidly and in a near-sighted ways on problems.

Maybe if society were happier and more people actually gave a crap.... we live under constant fear and gloom because the government wants us scared.

Cold war, now it is terrorism and if that fails we have global warming, gas prices and child molesters to fear.

Part media making money and ratings, but our "leaders" LOVE it. That color chart for terror alerts was the dumbest, most insulting thing ever and we accepted it and said thanks.

No fly list over 1 mil, but the idiots were on it to begin with and concerned citizens were ignored before- but now we want you all to watch each other for us.

People panicking because of a light bright on a pole with moon people on it.

Nuclear power okay on war ships, too dangerous for land based power..... we aint too bright.

But we do like our sports, drug for the masses.

True. I've seen just as many of your coffee drinking, makeup applying, reading the paper, 3 lane crossing, dvd watching, messing with their kids, text messaging, SUV "drivers" driving something other than SUVs.

I drive a Suburban and get tired of all the cage issues being projected on SUV drivers. My biggest fear is running up on some of these wheeling sportbikes coming towards me and wiping out and there may be very little I can do to avoid them should they come down in my lane.

My first experience of highway wheelies was going into New York. It amazes me how selfish these type of riders can be.

There are more drivers than motorcyclists. Drivers vote. Politicians want to get reelected. Guess who has the louder voice? You'll NEVER see more restrictions placed on automobile drivers, but you WILL see "token" laws passed to control those "dangerous bikers."

Just the way of the world.

It is the way of the world, and that's sad. Yes these guys were acting stupid as hell. And they deserve whatever punishment is dealt. Did you see any protection on any of them in that vid clip? I didn't. Even though there is that hand full of bikers who can't hold back, you have just as many cagers who act the same. Officials don't see this. Although, it seems when I'm on the interstate with my bike people are more cautious and don't drive as stupid. I actually feel safer on I-4 than I do on back roads.

Still haven't run into Ricky or Howard from the PaceSetters at work today. However, apparently, Ricky gave a short interview last night and stated that none of the riders were members of their group.

On one hand I understand the desire to twist the throttle and see how fast it'll go (I've topped out both my 9 and my S2 at least once) But this is the kind of stuff that gives sport bike riders a bad image. It also causes the police to tighten down on bikers.
It seems like the police knew where these guys were going to be and that they were going to be speeding. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a scheduled group ride that they do every weekend.

The only reason I was even out and about that morning was to meet up with a group ride through some twisties (I'm certain it wasn't the group that got busted). I met them at that charity run last weekend. They meet up every sunday and ride. Unfortunately, I got lost and missed them. I was really looking forward to it but now I'm thinking I might want to hold off. There might be another report of a group getting busted doing 70-80 in a 45 on some winding backroad.

Miamiuly - as far as your insurance comment, it depends on the company. I know for a fact that Dairyland worked directly with Buell regarding repair statistics and reducing the price of repairs. The frame pucks were a great example of the engineers at BMC working towards that goal. As a return, Buells get better pricing.

I heard that directly from a corporate employee at the national BMW rally. He noticed my Buell hat and we started chatting. I can't remember his name, but I thought it was very informative. He mentioned that Dairyland was to be Buell's "preferred insurance company". Not sure if that ever materialized.

Funny, it doesn't seem to be as bad in Canada when I cross the border... although Newfoundland is a bit trying (the mullet lives) and Montreal a bit overboard on the Francophones who instantly learn English when the bill comes...

Been to the Beach lately? Fat dimples in thongs and banana hammocks LOTS of stupidity and the inability to comprehend the image from their mirror as in eyes no connected to brain! ... THE TRAVESTY!

MOST the folks were acting like total frickin' idiots I see it as only a matter of time until sweeping regulations are placed on sportbikes.

The insurance companies will handle that
A young friend of mine wants a bike he specificaly wanted an R1 or a Gixxer 1k

pricing right there with the 1125r,

~12k RTR, Insurance 6k per year

I think that will put a stop to it, as sales numbers for the hyper bikes drop and the used bikes disapear they will simply cease to be available except to those who can pay cash and only buy liabillity ~500$ year here in NC

when the sales numbers drop far enough the bikes will just go away...

Oh, I solved a mystery of these young guys riding GSXR 1000's and Busa's.
Apparently a lot of them get a Suzuki Credit Card, buy the bike on the card (w/ an outrageous rate I'm betting) and then just get liability. The bike isn't financed in the traditional sense, so they don't have to buy full coverage. They own the bike but have a huge credit card bill.
It sounds incredibly dumb to me but there's a fool born every minute.

I'm not sure if other brands offer this option, it might further explain why GSXR's are so popular.
