Can anybody tell me why the thread regarding [redacted] HD [redacted] was deleted? Or what was said that caused it to be deleted? I don't understand.

Boney,
I live in Racine so not far from you. I suppose its because you advertised HD/Buell dealers deal or sales and they are not a sponsor here. Kinda like going down to the Chevy dealer and posting on the cork board a better deal on the other side of town. Good deal ya posted but you'd have to understand how the paying sponsors feel about it here.

Boney, advertising on BadWeB is reserved for our sponsors, of which the H-D/Buell dealer in question is not.

Blake moved the thread from public view and sent the thread starter a very nice e-mail in explanation:

Hello [redacted],

We appreciate your enthusiastic and thoughtful contributions to the forum at BadWeB. Thanks for that. And welcome to the asylum. : )

Unfortunately the place depends upon sponsorship to pay the significant bills for bandwidth and professional system administration and site management. We'd be thrilled to welcome [redacted] on board as a sponsor, as the privilege of advertising is strictly reserved for sponsors. We'd be much obliged if you could help us maintain that policy.

Thanks for understanding, I'm sure you were only enthused about spreading the word to fellow Buellers about a good deal.

Ride, Lean, Smile, Live!

Blake

Boney, i hope this answers your question. hopefully the dealer will see the value of sponsorship here on BadWeB and come on board. :-)

best regards,
Ferris

Ok I understand. I didn't originally post the thread, just committed on the great deal. I figured the reasoning was around badwebs current sponsors. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Or a T-Shirt with pretend mud all over the back, up in standard wheel-spatter position, with the Buell logo and the Uly logo kinda crooked and all soggy. . .

Now THAT would be cool.

There's a catch 22 to this. One one hand I completely understand sponsorship, on the other, I understand a fellow BWer trying to help us out by giving us the skinny on good deals.

If I were a BW sponsor and I saw a post on sale on items, I'd come right back by checking the validity of it, then matching it, if like items are in stock.

wow, Blake's been called many things during his tenure as Chief Cook and Bottle Washer here at BadWeB, but doubtful he's ever been called *proper* before.

sure hope he doesn't take any offense.

Why should someone who has put in years of good service supporting the brand and loyal customers and who has a history of supporting BadWeb have to compete with someone who simply rolls in and provides nothing but the hint of a better deal?

Maybe the deal is good. Maybe it isn't.

It isn't really the point. When someone has no relationship with anyone or anything here, the only real way they can compete is to under cut by price. There is only so many ways to work the deal. The marginal difference in price isn't worth cutting the legs out from under those who have put in the time.

here we go

the particular place that was posted gives that big discount, but ask some of my customers what has happened when they needed help from them with something after the fact.

there are a few people that i deal with i basically quit being so helpful to. (call me an a$$ or whatever you want. tell me its my job to help them. no its not, my JOB is to sell them parts. i spend the extra time educating them/or going the extra mile to figure out what they really need because it makes me feel good to help people out of a jam, and because i think thats how a good person should be, but you cant do it to your own detriment either)

when you come in to my store and question me for an hour about things only to straight up tell me you are going to order the stuff from this other dealer for that discount, or you call me up because no one else can figure out the part number so you can order it from them. how do you think that goes over with me. do you know how many sales i have lost because i devoted my time to trying to help you only to be basically spit on. when it happens with the same people over and over, i loose all interest in spending my time on it. i am all for helping people, but just dont forget to throw a bone or two my way sometimes. i have to eat too you know.

now dont get me wrong, i look around for deals, but there are many times i pay that extra bit because i know damn well the person i bought it from will go the extra mile for me if i need it, or simply because i appreciate the effort they put into trying to help me.

knowledge is worth alot. especially when it comes to buells it seems. many many people complain about there dealer having no one working there that knows anything about buells. there are many that do know plenty about buells though also, but the first sign of a little better price and people jump ship to get it. do it often enough and the person with the answers/or the one that usually has your back, wont be in business. its as simple as that.

I do not buy on price.
I do not sell on price.
I will never be the cheapest.

There will ALWAYS be someone cheaper.
Selling on price is the weakest way to do business. There is always a cost of doing business as it pertains to good or poor service.

Tim,
I hear you.
It didn't happen much to me in the Buell biz but i have a few "buy it cheap on the internet" customers now and then they bring it to me to make it work right because they do not have the tools or skills to do it.
A couple of them have pissed me off so bad that I have started to charge them basically double what I would normally charge to work on their stuff. They have convinced me that they are never going to actually buy anything from me but only use me to gather info, try out things in my inventory, then buy them on the net to save like 10% and then have me do the extra work to make it all work. Well, they get to pay me for my time one way or another.
Screw them, I say!
I do not have the time or inclination to have customers like that. I may, at some point, just refuse to do any work for them.
No one that is any good at what they do should have to be treated that way.

I've always been pretty good at what I do and treat my customers like gold. Many can attest to that.
I expect it to be a 2 way street. For the vast majority, it is and I appreciate that.

I'll still never forget the look on the face of the first person I threw out of the car dealership I worked at. That, as they say, was priceless!

When you have nothing else to compete with, there's always price.

Boney, you've gotten some very good and heartfelt answers to your initial question on this thread. i trust this clears up our (BadWeB's) stance on this issue, and i encourage you to do your business with our sponsors.

you don't always get what you pay for.....sometimes you get more. :-)

Daves, good to hear from you, thanks for your perspective.

No_rice, thank you, too.

Skinstains, you're kidding, right? your profile says you buy your parts from Liberty, one of our sponsors. good on ya for that, but if, after everything you've read on this thread, you're accusing us of censorship, well, i don't understand.

perhaps you'd care to enlighten all of us?

btw, in the original thread that got moved our very own Froggy gets an extra slice of raisin pie for going to bat for our sponsors with one of the thread participants, to whit:

"Central Texas, Liberty, Appleton, Hal's, Gainesville. Those are ones I can name off the top of my head. [this in response to a question about board sponsors who offer BadWeB discounts]

"With American Sport Bike you pay for the excellent service and support. The few times I had a question about something or needed help, Al was always able to help. He's a walking Buell knowledge bank. If Al offered a discount that would be great, but personally I don't mind paying full price as you get what you pay for with him. He does not sell anything on his site that is garbage."

well played, Froggy, thank you! :-)
