Hello buellers!
just a quick question...

Does anyone know if the grand daddy of Buell (Erik) has any modifications to his own bikes?

I'm thinking since he plays such a big roll in Buells development, he would NOT make ANY changes to his bikes.

but i'm curious to know?!?
And what he has done (if anything).

Most of us, get ours and start tearing her apart........ But its not like its bad to begin with, just not customized to our liking :-)

Thanks
-Robert

I for one know that he has some beautifully painted body pieces to put on his Lightning...

So, I do know that much.

Tristan, helluva job man!!! (Dana, make sure you show me the "new" stuff, LOL)

The guys at the Hal's speed shop built his City Cross motor, I've heard it's a BEAST.

He has a number of "personal" bikes. His "riders" include one heavily modified bike that he will be quick to point out he "ruined" by doing so much to and a totally stock bike that he rides daily. . . rain or shine and will likely circle the country on.

The Turbo was destroyed in compliance with federal laws and all documentation tendered.

It was slowly and methodically ground to dust by a combination of vibration, rotation, thermal cycling, wind ablation, UV irridation, periodic airborne H2O insertion, and oxidation.

The destruction is progressing swimmingly. About 10000 more years and there will be no trace of it. You can't rush these things you know...

I'll take care of the dirt bike if you want. : )

The Right Side Scoop is to a Buell what lace is to a bra. . . . entertaining to most, but non-functional.

In '05 he bought a brand new CityX from Hals. It was funny seeing the "sold to:Buell" tag on the handlebars. It was immediately wheeled back to the Speed shop and has an 88" "detuned" Hals Formula Extreme engine in it I've been told.

The not so funny thing is when I guess a truck almost hit him on it before he even left the parking lot with it : )

Erik learned, with that CityX what I already knew . . . the bike is best left stock.

He'll tell you (and it's no reflection on the wonderful job Hal's did) that the added power ruined the bike. It seldom gets ridden, in favor of a bone stock Uly, and will likely be returned to stock.

The XB9 is a fabulous and well balanced package just as it arrives from the factory.

I would think that if the RSS was/is that effective, Erik (Mr. Buell) would have incorporated it with the 2004 models.

I would bet the beemer that the RSS was tested by the R/D staff.

When you have a 120+ HP, it tends to be a snorting beast. The FX motors were meant for racing, not for the street.

Precisely. . .the XB9 is a classic "pace" bike and carves curves spectacularly in stock form.

Why do you think Hal's kept mine "mild" with "only" 100rwhp? One: so it would be more
durable, two: so that it could be street ridden without the idle problems and aggressivness
of a race bike. My bike even has the stock cams in it.

There is a lot more hp in it, but at what cost?

Ok... This is a little off topic, but would you say the same for a tuber - more rideable and streetable when left reasonably close to stock? I have an X1 with race kit ECM & exhaust and it has enough horsepower/torque to get me in trouble... ; ) but I often think of buying another bike vs. spending some money on the engine - eg 1250 kit or even 88" kit. Actually, re-reading thoughts above, maybe it is best left more or less the way it is... and having another Buell parked next to it : D

From what's said, Mr Buell rides a lot?

Court has Erik ever told you which of his stable is his favorite "fun bike"
which is his favorite "commuter"?

inquiring minds want to know.
