Hey guys. I live in the Bronx and commute daily into the city. Just picked up a Uly XT. I really only have ever owned Kawasakis previously and there is a bit of a system shock. It's a modern bike, but it seems to want to shake itself apart at stops. I guess that's part of the engine's 'charm'. I'm so used to inline fours and the occasional Parallel twin, and aside from my friends Honda Shadow, I've never really had experience with vtwins. My first reaction upon firing up the bike the first time was, "Oh, I need to find the idle speed knob." But aside from a loose throttle grip, there have been no problems. Still breaking her in though. My wife says the bike is like a tasmanian devil when it's just waiting for someone to give it some gas just grumbling and shaking, then it just kind of goes! Ever since I saw the first XBs, I've wanted to own a Buell and I'm finally on one. I will miss my old bike, but hopefully there are a lot of miles between this and my next bike. And hopefully they're loaded with good fun. Any other Buell riders (Is it Buellers?) in the NYC area? I've only ever seen one by Yankee stadium and one a few blocks off MSG. | ||

I was Buelling in the big apple (midtown, E 50s) yesterday afternoon, as I often do. You wouldn't really pick my scoot out as a Buell, frankly...just looks like a mangy piece of sh1t. I'm frequently in Chinatown, Soho and the East Village. We have a hell of a cabal of Buell enthusiasts in the Hudson Valley, a nice hour's ride from the Bronx. ...Your commute sounds strange...last time I checked, The Bronx was in the city  . Do you live near Yankee Stadium? I was supposed to be at Shea, tonight, but it looks like rain. | ||

"The City" (for those unaware of it) is comprised of the 5 boroughs, Da Bronx, Brooklyn (Kings), Queens, SI(Richmond) and Manhattan. Now, many Jerseyites will tell you. w/equal conviction, that Jersey city and Hoboken together represent the 6th borough. | ||

Hey I always thought Queens as on Long Island and wasn't part of "the city". Just stirring the pot  I like to tease my friends that live or are from Queens saying they are from Long Island, just to hear them correct me and say "no, Queens". I used to live on the island as a kid, but moved up to the country (even more upstate than Tramp and the hudson valley crew). Took me a bit of people saying the where going to "the city" and meaning Albany (or as we like to call it Smallbany). -Patrick | ||

Yep- and in The Bay Area, San Francisco is "The City"..."San Fran" to locals, "Frisco" only to old-school sailors and club-based motorcycle enthusiasts. I find that Queens residents often prefer to say they're from LI, as opposed to the city, even when they're NOT on the Great Neck border. That reminds me of that scene in Beat Street, where the guy tells the main character Double K his dreams about being in a band in New York and Double K tells him in no uncertain terms, "This ain't New York, this the Bronx!" I actually live in the Hunts Point area. And Archie Bunker would be rolling in his grave if he saw how many trees grow here now. Dinealone doesn't ride alone. Hehe. Usually with my wife, who happens to think the Uly seat is huge like a Carrier Deck! | ||

Hehehehe . . . I'm here everyday right smack dab in the middle of it. I always ask folks who claim to be "from the city" if they pay NYC Income tax. . . any better test than that? It's a fabulous place to ride and the population of Buells is growing noticeably. I used to photograph one a month . . . then one a week and now I capture images of Buells several times a day. | ||

great- a litmus test of NY nativity, being suggested by a transplanted hayseed. Court, the majority of folks in outlying counties are "from the city", originally, and go back many generations, there. How long have you been residing in The Big Apple, again?  | ||

You've prolly seen my '05 Firebolt since there are so few in NYC. Was yellow, but no it's now Orange and silver(frame). I'm a bit surprised you have a Uly in the city. I think XB9 lightning is more appropriate, will shake less, is better on gas. However, yeah, they shake. But having all that tourque at the ready when you squeeze between cabs is a lifesaver. the Uly seat is huge like a Carrier Deck! Heh...I finally got the chance to put my g/f on the back of my XT for a jaunt the other day. We're going to have to look into some kind of addition or modification to the seat - she claims she's most comfortable with her tailbone pressed back against the triple tail, but that leaves nearly a foot of space in between us (neither of us are big people by any stretch of the imagination). | ||

So since this is coming the NY thread... Any real estate advise on NY State? Looking at Rochester. Unbelievable prices as compared to out here way out west. (Maybe it is our coffee jacking the prices) | ||

I owned a place in Marina del Rey, CA and was there and Coronado (Coronado Shores Condos next to the Hotel Del Coronaod) for years and alway felt like a visitor. My wife and her family, like you observered have been here since her dad arrived on the boat at the age of 6. NYC is an incredible city. . .who else has 450,000 tourists arriving daily? I, once again esssoptage of word warping, never suggested I was "from NYC". I do, however LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY, not an outlying nearby community. | ||

I'm a bit surprised you have a Uly in the city. I take the side cases off for commuting. I was actually considering the CityX, but it's the touring capabilities of the Ulysses that really forced me to plunk down the dough for a new bike. I'm a portly man to a certain degree and my wife rides with me a lot. Sometimes we just like to ride off into the sunset and see where we end up. I can't imagine the CityX being any more comfortable than my ZReX. }I believe I saw dinealone today at about 1030 hrs, turning left from the west side Hwy I see there are spies everywhere! It was probably me but I turned off further down. | ||

Oh god! MoGridders! I'm a few blocks from them. For me, the offroad simulation starts at the Brook Ave. exit leading towards the Bruckner service road. I have to stand on the pegs almost the whole way until I reach 138th or thereabouts. | ||
