I have had a mild case of new bike fever since last year when I rode my FXDX to the NC mountains. I really enjoyed riding around in the mountains, but wished for a more sporting bike. I still really like my FXDX, though, so I have tried to be patient and wait until I am more financially able to buy another bike and keep my FXDX as well.

Then, a couple of weeks ago my son bought his first bike, a Ducati Monster 696. I have ridden his bike a bit since he got it, and my fever has worsened. That is a fun little bike. I don't think it would work for me as my only bike, though, because I do like to sometimes travel on my bike and the little Monster doesn't seem to be the ticket for that. No wind protection and little in the way of luggage options. Still, what a fun little bike. It makes my FXDX feel like a pig when I get back on it.

I'm still broke, so I still have to be patient, but it is getting harder. It is kind of fun thinking about what I'll buy next though. Here are the current front runners.

Buell XB12XT
Ducati Multistrada
Yamaha FZ1
Suzuki Bandit 1250S
BMW 1200GS
Triumph Tiger 1050

Although after riding that little Ducati, I am also thinking about something like the Triumph Street Triple, the little Duc, an SV650, and the like. I'm just not sure my old fat body could do the all day rides on those that I sometimes like to do.

Anyway, I am hoping my fever gets better. I have to stay off my son's bike though, every time I get on it the fever spikes.

The Uly or Xt and the Tiger are going to be VERY versatile. They are both awesome bikes. The Tiger is a hair cheaper with luggage though and makes more power. The crash parts are more expensive and can take a bit to get, I'd keep some on hand...like order them with the bike or something

I used to ride cruisers. Maybe 1-2000 miles a year max. Then I discovered sport bikes. I can't stay off of my bike now. I ride every chance I get. It's almost an addiction. I bought the Uly after owning a Triumph 955i. I miss the power, but the Uly takes me more places, is FUN to ride, and is cheap and easy to work on.

I can't wait to get a Uly. I will be renting one for a day or two first just to (hopefully) confirm my preconceptions.

Demo ride all the bikes on your list. then go buy the one that feels best. I bet you'll pick the XT.

I have found that a real nice compliment to an FXDX, (an example of which I happen to own), is a Buell Lightning.

They have been making them for over five years now, and early well kept examples are extremely affordable, less than half the price of a new one, and just as good in many respects. Many are available for less than $4K.

I use the Harley for bopping around town, and short trips.

I use the Buell for sport riding.

The perfect combination or so it seems to me.

Unfortunately long trips are trailer affairs now a days.

Because they are cousins, working on one is not entirely different than working on the other.

And I bought both of them used for about what a new Uly would cost.

Of course I always lie to myself about how much I spent on modifying them. Less painful like that, know what I mean?

If I ever replace my CityX, I am thinking it'll be a Uly. Better two up for when my wife wants to ride and it'll take me more places.

Never replace the city-X, just add too ; )

Demanding a test ride will prove what the next bike will be. Either the new XR1200, or the FXDF, either bike will cost me about 4 k in fixins to get what I want. The Fat bob gets me some passenger capability... I have to decide if that is worth the extra cash. Riding with a passenger can be fun, sometimes, I just dont want the company. or have to explain why i dont want the company

XB-Ss...Big enough to fit someone else on it if the wife wants to go, small enough to enjoy because 99 percent of the time she doesn't want to go.....
