Yeah I know all you colonials aren't getting it yet, but I had to share the advert that the dealer I bought my TT from emailed to me.
It's the last few words in the disclaimer right at the bottom that made me grin.

Yeah, we NEED that bike here! It's a great platform to lower, rake out, mount a righteous 2 into 2, bolt on some highway pegs and apes, and clip on a windshield.

Will the multi-fit tassled hand grips fit that bike?

Let's see, an XR with bags and windshield for the long road and a Blast for the city streets....I could rock with that, unless the XR costs more than an Ss, in which case it's the Ss. I'm sure the Buell would handle better.

Sorry about the confusion, I didn't realise there was a Manchester HD over there.

All the European reviews I've read, both French & English reckon it's about the best thing Harley have done for a long time.

I'll be in the dealers here on Friday, if I can get a go on one I'll post up a review for you all.

Well, I was in the dealers at Caen here in France this morning for the first service of the TT, & this was delivered while I was there. The first one the dealers have received. I even had a sit on it (that's not me in the pic it's one of their mechanics), it's not at all bad, can't say I was impressed with the build quality though, faults in the paint & exhaust shield, & that oil cooler looks very vulnerable, muffler mounting is ugly too.

Like every other bike Milwaukee builds, I gotta change about 4k worth of parts & labor to get what I want.
Thing still needs to go on a DIET, where is that extra 100 lbs coming from ?

Scoops over oil coolers don't really do the job on aircooled machines- the cooling is most needed at standstill, at which point the scoop becomes counteractive....

That tailpiece is shades of the original superglide 'boat'...(Zip knows what i'm talking 'bout) while it isn't my thing, I still see it as a great effort for which HD should be applauded.

This thing would have been pretty interesting ten years ago, but since it has the same power as a City Cross, will probably cost about $6000 more, weighs a hundred pounds more, doesn't have floating rotors or adjustable suspension, and has an 18" front wheel to "slow down" the handling, ( as if a 27ยบ fork angle and a 59 inch wheelbase don't do that), I don't think I'll be trading in my Buell on it.
I don't even think I would trade my Harley FXDX for it.
I mean, real Harleys are big twins, am I right, my brothers?

I agree to a degree, but 45" XRs, etc., on the track, are real HDs , to me.
I agree, though- Trading down form your Dx would be inane. that's a beautiful Super Glide....I felt they got it right with that model...but, not quite enough to forgive 'em for discontinuing the FXR

I's have to believe it's a throwback to the 1960s XR series.
the 91 883 was throwback to those.

The 60's flat trackers...ok.

If that's what they were going for, I'd say, looks-wise, they're pretty close...even with the duck-tail.

When this thing hits the states, its going to be popular.

I agree...Like i say, the tail may be more of a throwback to the '71 (Help me out, old-timers) Super Glide...the Red, White & Blue job...akin to Evel's stars & stripes XRs of the period.

Frankly, I think that if they offered this scoot in a Red, White & Blue (Mostly White, w/B&R graphicspaint scheme, with some small starts thrown in here & there, they'd have a market phenomenon on their hands.

Like the bike; it should sell.

One thing that bothers re this one... as with so many others on the market it appears as if the tank and the seat were designed by two committees that never spoke to each other. Specifically, note the very poor integration of the tank ending and the seat beginning. At the very least the silver on the tank could have blended with same on the seat.

The engine looks very good; aesthetically one of Harley's better efforts.

All in all, this advances the Sportster and regains some its lost balls.

I can't help but think that Erik fought against this. Not because it competes with his bikes, but because many people will think so.

You read my mind- I wish I put it that well!
The correct throwback might have incorporated a one-piece tank cover/tail/seat section.

I think this is tantamount to a mock factory-Storz
effort.

zackly, Tramp. And howcum lil' ol' Steve Storz can do so much better a job? I'm not being facetious; I really don't understand why some of the world-class designers at the PDC can't just step back 20 feet and REALLY look at it. Methinks someone would then say, "Something ain't right."

Those of you who read Automobile Magazine might be familiar with Robert Cumberford's design column. He'll take a current model automobile and dissect its aesthetic from a designer's viewpoint. He can be brutal, but the consensus (among designers) is that he's generally right on the money. I would really enjoy his view of this and numerous motorcycles vying for our eye.

There is a lot to like about this XR, and I'm really in a rush to ride one... but damn, it could have been a real beauty,

According to this article below HD bought the XR1200 name from Storz.

Should have purchased the styling as well. The pillion should be an option on the HD XR1200 and not the "forced by committee" look it has now. And while I am nit picking, the cable routing is pure ugly, the gage package is very poorly done (LCD on an XR?) and she sits waaaaay too low. Best looking sporty engine of all time though - love those XR push rod tubes. Oh, and the cam cover styling w/o the not needed anymore timer is excellent.

If they get here I will w/o doubt get one...but used at a great $$ after the original buyer gets pissed off one too many times hearing it called a sissy bike from his/her leather vest wearing friends. It is bound to happen.
