We just got a 1987 Jeep Wrangler (first year of the rectangular headlights).

We went down to Los Angeles (LA--edit) last weekend to see my Grandma who lives with one of my Uncles. His wife had gotten a new Jeep and was selling her old one.

She was the original owner of the '87, and had about $20K worth of work done to it in the last 5 years.

Used engine swap (straight 6), new alternator, water pump, radiator, rear end, the list goes on and on.

Needless to say we picked up a very clean, straight, and good running vehicle for CHEEP $3k!

It is now our TitanMobile (Titan is our Malamutt), and it is the first thing with 4 wheels that I have owned in 6 years.

Any other's Jeepin'? Post up!

Hex

I'm a Jeep guy. My first Jeep, and car for that matter, was/is a 1990 Wrangler. I still have it and probably will for a long time to come. I may be buying a second Wrangler here pretty soon. Nothing better than losing the top and the doors for the summer.

Mine is an '84 CJ7. 406 Chevrolet with a high torque 2bbl set up(low rpm monster). 33" tires, 7" lift, rust free Florida body, 4spd. Broke the stock drive train all to pieces on Slick Rock in the Tellico Forest trail system. I've had it for over ten years. Poor thing is sitting in a storage building, waiting for me to get tired of riding the Uly nearly every weekend, so that I might put the chevy axles that I have purchased in it. My boat and fishing gear is right beside it waiting too. Damn Uly.

Hexangler,

Sweeet!!!!

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Jeeps. I learn to drive in a 1942 Willies surplus Army Jeep. Here's hoping you have a great time with it.

Had an '80 CJ5 a few years ago with the smallest motor Jeep ever used. It had an Iron Duke 151ci, it wasn't much on speed but if it could get traction it would climb a telephone pole.

You're not the only one Zane.
My first driving lessons were in a '53 Willys Jeep in a cow pasture. It had no brakes and it took me forever to learn to shift without stalling out.
My dad once won a bet with a friend; "I can go anywhere your 4-wheeler(atv) can go except between two trees, unless the trees are small enough to run over." They spent half a day finding mud holes, streams, gullies, anything to try to get that jeep stuck but never could. Eventually, they admitted defeat when it started raining and we were the only ones still dry.

That's a great story Curtis.

When I was about 12 or 13 my best friend's father closed his body shop to teach vocational school When he did, we had the run of the place. Behind "the shop" was about 1000 acres of undeveloped land. We had races and blazed new trails back there for years before they paved it over. Our favorite thing to do was to climb the sand mounds from where they had dug canals. Think 40 foot tall sand mounds. In 4 wheel drive that poor ol' jeep would go right up the side like it was nothing. Jeeze we had fun back then!

Those aren't jeeps....
THIS is a Jeep (yes, it is - Kaiser Jeep, 1961)

That 87 is super clean - very nice. We've got a 92 for ...uh... less extreme jobs. First thing I did when I got it was take out the interior and have it line-X'd from firewall to tailgate. Rust? What rust? LOL.

I got a 1993 Cherokee Sport with a 4.0 I bought at auction 3 years ago for $450.00!!! I'm up to 220K miles from 190K and it's still going strong!

Ugly as hell...but almost as torque happy as my XB12!!!

I miss our 97 Wrangler.

Sold it when the kido came along. I am seriously considering a new one for the next car.

Wow,

I see we have something else in common.

Just to let you all know, my first car was a 1967 LandRover standard. Sad to loose it, but the Jeep is AMERICAN!

Yes, the torque is very familiar to HD/Buell. I'm addicted.

I rarely rev the Jeep beyond 2500 rpm.

Low like it is with "street" tires, I find it handles much like a sports car.

Fun indeed! Trailer hitch too! Speedway and track days are now within reach. To be continued...

04 Wrangler Rubicon w/ 4 inch lift, 33's, winch, and lots of skid plates.
Jeeps are just as addicting as bikes, because this is my fifth one.
Old ones were;
00 TJ w/ 33's
89 Wrangler
85 CJ7
79 CJ5

I have several Jeeps in the past. Most favorite was the first one, 1975 J10 pick up. I was a sophmore in high school and for my shop final I put in a home made lift kit made from hockey pucks, used hangers, and fabricated U-bolts. Got an A.
Currently drive a '96 Cherokee, which won't die. 220,000 miles has gotten my more fresh Venison lately than my Rem.44R.

I had a '98 Wrangler Sport with a 6cyl. I loved it, but I didn't think it made a good daily driver.

Ratbuell, I'd LOVE to get my hands on an old Deuce!

Well let's see-

My first Jeep was a '78 CJ7 that had a 401
Next came a '92 supercharged 4.0 Wrangler with a coil spring conversion ARBs and plenty of other stuff
Then I got the '99 Wrangler I later sold to buy my Buell.
It was a sweet rig with 6.5" Rubicon Express long arm lift Detroit in the rear Dana 44 Warn winch 35's. Boy do I miss that one.
We got the wife a 2005 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 with the Hemi
and I replaced my '99 Wrangler with a '99 XJ Cherokee.

I think that about sums it up.

My first Jeep was a really rusted '57 CJ5, Ole "F" head 4cyl, three spd. Top speed on the highway 42 mph. Even all stock it would crawl like a goat in the woods. I traded a '64 Chevy Belair 2dr with no engine, and a tow bar for it.

image sizes here dont do well with my camera
here's the jeep http://www.flickr.com/photos/ulendo/2482741495/siz es/l/
