That's interesting. The belt on my Ulysses rode in the same place as the chain on your Ulysses, but I didn't have any issue with dirt and road crap sticking to my belt. You sure there's not some type of lubricant on that chain?

Agreed. Both happy and all is good. But if you claim that a chain drive requires no maintenance . . . |

But if you claim that a chain drive requires no maintenance . . . Never said that... But the maintenance it does require isn't enough to cause me any grief. If ya must know, I still have a belt on my race bike.... and I bought a spare... just in case.... along with extra clutch & brake levers...foot pegs...shifter... shifter linkage.. handle bars.. grips... |

Spike, It's an oring for a reason. ...oh and thanks for the heads-up! I'll let ALL my friends know we've been doing all wrong for all these years! (Message edited by Buellfighter on May 13, 2008) |

LOL... chains.... belts. You guys sure like the old outdated tech, doncha? I've never had a moments trouble from my electromagnetic pulse drive system, and there's NO maintenance at all (aside from the occasional tear in the time space continuum, but I leave that for others to clean up). ~SM |

I need an updated belt, and I'll trade you my chain conversion kit for it, everything!! and yes I am serious. |

For what it's worth, my 'daily rider' is a '90 FXR with a JET-built 113" S&S putting 135hp/135 ft. lbs to the ground. It gets beat on regularly; eg. there's one local kid with a race-kitted XB12 who just won't quit taking it on.... Same belt for the past 3 years/20,000 mi. No apparent signs of wear [no belt guard either, but then I haven't done many enduros with it ..] |

I couldn't help but note what ended John Hopkins' race in LeMans today... |

I couldn't help note how many belt driven bikes are in MotoGp... |

We already know the answer to that and it's been explained ad nauseum. It is easier to change gear ratios with chains because all you have to do is add or remove links to adjust to the outer circumference of your sprockets. With a belt drive you'd need a different length belt for every combination of pulleys you planned on using. That's why racers use chains instead of belts. It's got nothing to do with the reliability of one over the other. |

Maybe for me and my racing budget.... but not MotoGp. They have unlimited funds, the best Mechanics and all the best equipment at their disposal. If a belt drive was the best way to go you can believe they would be using it. Its not like they show up the morning of the race and set the bike up the days event. |

If Stoner had a belt drive, he may have had a better result in France. |

Yeah....it was weird to see that chain sprawl across the race track. Ya know...that is seriously unusual for that to happen. |

Yeah, they should make MotoGP run belts and that way the last person running wins the race. |

Buellfighter, Have you upgraded to the new belt on your XB or did you just have troubles with the old style/width? |

Jaimec, With the Feespirits tensioner do you think it would be possible to run a number of different ratios due to the tensioner being spring tensioned instead of fixed? |

Bombardier, mine is a 96 S1 that I purchased in 01 and chain at the same time. |
