Anybody running a hard-case trunk on their XB? I need something waterproof and large enough to accommodate a suit bag, dress shoes and my laptop tote so I can wear full gear but still be dressed to kill when I commute to the office.

I was thinking of modifying a Ventura luggage rack and then mounting a detachable trunk with brake light on it for my commuting days.

Here's the best I've found thus far, but am interested in seeing what else is out there because this one's a little too small: http://www.vikingbags.com/product_915_detailed.htm l

I'm looking for something that's at least 21" wide by 18" deep by 16" tall usable interior space. I'm not crazy about saddle bags/tank bags, so I was hoping I could do this with one piece of luggage that I could remove when I go joy-riding in the curves. Any experiences or knowledge you guys could pass my way would be most appreciated.

If you get the ventura, you'll be able to attach any Givi Monolock top case to it.

Thank you Mark. This one just may work! The Givi E470 may be just big enough to do the job. I would still like to find something a little bigger though. My main problem is finding a case big enough to accommodate a folded in 1/2 suit bag without wrinkling my suit too bad.

As for the Ventura rack system, I suggested using this one because it's all I've found thus far that bolts right up to the XBS tail. However, I wanted to turn the rack around backwards so it's over the passenger seat area to keep the center of gravity as close to me as possible. This would mean cutting off the top bar and adding some bracing underneath though. I may just build a bracket out of steel rods if I can't find something that just bolts up exactly as I need it to. The Ventura's a little pricey to have to take a hacksaw to it right out of the box.

Otherwise I did find reference to this: hard luggage rack options: Givi Wingrack, Givi PL-series, Five Stars, SW-MOTECH, and Krauser. Anyone used any of these on the XB?

It looks like the only rack system that bolts up to our bikes is the Ventura system. I also noticed that none of the racks mount over the passenger seat, so anything I bought would have to be modified if I still insisted on doing it this way.

Guess I could just get a Ventura Rack and a Givi case, mount them the way the manufacturers intended and be done with it. At least I could use the bike to get to work rain or shine and still honor the dress code in my office with this setup. It'd also be nice to be able to leave my helmet and gloves and lock up my GPS and radar detector with the bike instead of having even more junk to hump into the building. I'm the only rider in my department, and they already think I'm crazy to ride a sportbike in Houston traffic. The easier it is for me to not remind them how I get to work, the better it'll be for me. And I'll also have the luxury of sitting back and listening to them whine about gas prices when I'm enjoying 60 mpg (as long as I stay off the throttle). LMFAO!

Any other ideas for a good solution out there?

I think the Ventura rack can be spun around without hacking anything up.

Yeah but it's got a bar across the back of it that rises a couple of inches above the rack. I'd have to cut it off to get a flat mounting surface if I wanted to run it backwards with a trunk mounted on it.

I'm sure it'll do just fine with the case sticking way out past the back of the bike. I'm not planning to carry a lot of weight in it anyway (<20 lbs).

I'd probably give Al @ American Sport Bike the business. He's been good to us here at BadWeB.

you mean something like this ? its an H&B sport trunk mounted over a Ventura rack that was levelled and cut. The sides are H&B brackets with pelican cases. PM me if you need the details or more pics. It will carry a full suit bag without folds.

That's a good solution you've got there Brian. The pic in your profile shows the rack fairly well. That's a Ventura? I'd love to hear more about what you did as it's similar to what I had in my mind at the outset of this little quest. You're welcome to email me some pics/comments at philipdotpenningtonmba at gmaildotcom. Thanks!

Anyone else got some ideas on what to use for a rack and a hard trunk on the XB? Looking for as much feedback as you guys are willing to offer.

Links to products would be most appreciated.
