I had the "robotic laproscopic radical prostectomy" surgery @ Mt. Sinai in Manhattan last Wednesday & went home on Thursday. The surgeon/oncologist said he got it all & I'm good to go. I'll still have to watch my PSA but it should stay at zero. I've got 5 tiny slits in my stomach that were glued shut. No pain meds after 2 days and I feel great except for the catheter that comes out this Thursday. All in all, a positive experience so far. They told me no exercise (including riding)or lifting over 5 lbs for 6-8 weeks - that ain't happening. We'll see how it goes. Have your PSA checked men - I dodged the bullet. | ||

Great news, congratulations!!!!!! They told me no exercise (including riding)or lifting over 5 lbs for 6-8 weeks that reminds of an old man that came in to Autozone one day and needed me to carry his battery out to his car. Said his doctor had told him the same exact thing as you, then after a few seconds he looked at me with a serious face and said very coldly, "and I've been peeing on my toes for the past 5 days" I dropped his battery needless to say and fell over laughing! Glad to hear you are well, keep an eye on it, and thanks for the reminder | ||

Good news... glad it's OUT, GONE! I have to give you credit for me calling my doc and scheduling a physical - 2 weeks will be my first time in 3 years. Yer a good man. | ||

Good to hear all went well. I also have 5 cuts on my stomach, it was for a different surgery but the entry is very similar to what you had done. I saw a cosmetic surgeon about the scars (before surgery) A little tip for you. Keep the scars out of the sun for 12 full months. Do what ever you have to do to keep them fully covered. If you do they will ultimately blend in with the rest of your flesh. If you don't they will darken, and always be visible. | ||

Blake - LOL. Hey, I told the doc I was an engineer and that I wanted to see the DiVinci robot, so he let me walk in and check it out just before they put me under. Its a very interesting device but no real magic here. Four servo articulated arms with various removable end effectors. A very nicely designed piece of current technology. As far as the drink goes - I requested a Guinness in the recovery room because my throat was dry but the bastards denied me! Can you believe it? Corporate' - After a lifetime of extreme sports, I've enough scars and stitch marks that a few more won't matter. They give me "character". lol. I've lost about 5 pounds (wish it was more) which means more to me than a few more marks on the canvas. Slaughter - Good thinkin' - It will pay off. | ||

"I've lost about 5 pounds " Pretty sure the prostate doesn't weigh 5 pounds, might want to check what else they took while they were in there.   Glad you're doing well and that they got all the problems out. Lost my dad to prostate cancer. He'd had his checked every year and by the time they found a problem it was too far along to do anything about it, he never saw 60 years old. I get mine checked and the PSA test as well every year. | ||

Cyclone _ I wouldn't recommend it bro! Especially if you ever want to have kids. Mikej, I read 3 books, reviewed umpteen websites and interviewed 7 guys who had it done different ways before I decided on which method. I picked the method and the surgeon who I felt had the least side effects. I'll find out more about the incontinence issue in the coming weeks and the little guy already's been at attention even with the catheter. lol. crazy. | ||

Frankfast - Not specifically, but when the biopsy which was triggered by a high PSA, came back positive for cancer, the PSA level became a moot point. My urologist and family doctor did council me over the past 5 years that my steadily rising PSA did not necessarily mean that I had or would get cancer. It was just an important indicator that triggered a total on 3 biopsies. | ||

My grandfather just had his prostate frozen 2 weeks ago, due to cancer. He's been grumbling about it ever since, but I think he's beginning to like rockin' the housecoat. Very Hugh Hefner, aside from the plaid thing.  ~SM |
