We could be overrun by the horde.

Although I personally would rather see BadWeb remain Buell specific, I doubt we'll be overrun. Those Harley owners who have no interest in Buell would have little reason to check out BadWeb. On the other hand, the Harley owners who keep an open mind might be persuaded to check Buells out more closely if they start exploring the BadWeb.

Anyone one to start a pool on how long the new section is open before we see the first chaps/chrome/pipes thread?

Back to the OP: Interesting that you went to the Sporty. Does it have a custom seat for your 110 mile commute (that really is quite a lot of miles for a daily ride not on a tourer). Saddlebags?

When I had the XB9S and Electra-Glide in the garage together there was no question about which bike to take where. But the XB has a custom seat and the seating position is actually better for long rides than the bagger, although the windshield was sure nice. The XB stayed.

But good luck with your commute. The XLH is a fine motorcycle.

Harleys, Hondas, Ducatis, Yamahas, Kawasakis, Suzukis, Triumphs etc. etc. are all fine motorcycles -- they all have their own sites.
I don't ever go there.
I have a Buell!

This is a Buell riders site.
I hope it stays that way.

I think you might just be missing the point here, Jack.

Buells and Harley's have a special relationship.

Unlike the other brands you mention, Buell is owned by Harley, and sold in Harley shops.

The air cooled Buell engine is based on the Harley engine, and manufactured in a Harley Davidson engine plant.

Therefore even though the design philosophy of the bikes is entirely different, one might even say opposed to each other, it appears that several brothers, myself included, enjoy riding both brands, and would enjoy sharing information from the unique Buell perspective.

Since the overwhelming majority of Harley owners do not share that perspective, and do not visit this board, perhaps your fears might be unwarranted.

I understand the corporate relationship.
But you are quite correct that the philosophy is entirely different.
The Buell philosophy is much more closely related to some of the other bikes I named.

I see no problem with Buell riders discussing their Harleys or any other make they may ride.

I just wouldn't like seeing this site diluted to being another Harley site.

A hog pen is called a pigsty.

Don't they have their own site?
Keep this for Buells.
We could be overrun by the horde.

that's funny stuff right there.

i think you'd be surprised how many different brands of motorcycles are squirreled away in BadWeb'ers garages.

this is, and always will be, a high-class, high-quality Buell-focused forum, irrespective of the machine du jour of any given poster at any given time.

hell, there's a rumor that one of the custodians here rides a Harley and hasn't had a Buell in years.

hide the women and kids.

Well, there certainly are Harley sites. I have been to several. Yet, even though I don't own a Buell, but do own a Harley, I visit this site daily or more and can't remember the last time I visited a Harley site. Why? Because their posts rarely interest me, while the ones here often do.

I really don't like how owners of one brand or another get stereotyped into being one kind of person or another. I have friends who ride many different brands. I would love a sportier ride than my FXDX, which I think is a pretty dog gone good cruiser. That doesn't mean I don't like my FXDX anymore. I have thought about a lot of different bikes, but I will likely end up with a Buell. Even if I don't, I'll probably keep checking in here as I am impressed by many of you. I really hoped to meet some of you at March Badness this year, but the scheduling didn't work. Hopefully next year I'll be able to make it.

Anyway, if anyone knows of a Harley board more interested in riding than in chroming then please let me know. I wish BadWeb could supply that, but I do understand the worry that it would morph into something different. I think that could be avoided however.

Geez, I haven't been here in a couple of days.
Norm, I have 3 seats with the bike and 3 sets of handlebars to figure out my bet comfort setup, plus an extra set of wheels/ tires, rear pulley, extra sissy bar, saddle bags, and a whole lot more.
I'll post the details and a pic here as soon as I can.
What I really want to do is get rid of some chrome and get some black parts on the bike.

I don't think a Harley section would morph into tales of chrome and leather, I actually think it would be beneficial to Buell and Harley owners because of the likeness of the engines/ etc...
and besides, with the way Blake runs the site and help from dedicated moderators I think it would give it (the hog section) a better atmosphere than some of the Harley other forums.
I've been checking them out and the only good one out there is the XL forum, but I'd rather spend my time here.

Since Buell now uses a Rotax engine, perhaps we should include the other bikes using Rotax engines. BMW etc.
My other bike is a Suzuki, maybe include that too.

Don't leave out the other bikes that we ride. Do a survey to find the other bikes we have and include them also.

I don't see a big deal in including a small section for HD here. Actually I think it would be seen as a great gesture to try to move the brands toward mutual respect. I know many here already respect them I'm just not certain what the numbers are on the other side. I have an '02 Sporty right beside the XB. They are ridden at different times for different reasons, and when the wind is right and the air temp. perfect my wife will even ride her Sporty! Oh yeah no clouds, can't have a hint of a cloud. Sorry, I digress, I like the Sporty.org forum, is that the XL forum you are referring to Blasterd?

Blake I know it is your call alone, however you can count me on the yea side. If in 6 months it's not what it should be or it's not progressing, pull the plug.

I was at the local HD/Buell dealership today. Too funny, I was talking with a salesman and General Manager about Buells. There are many HD employees that love Buells and these are two of them. Webe and I had the HD almost out numbered out front. We were talking to them about the problems the 1125R owners were reporting on this site. The General Manager owned an XB9S and is torn between the XB12XT and the 1125R for his next bike and the salesman who rode sport bikes in the past and now has an FLH is looking hard at Spikes' traded in '04 XB12R. While we were there a young couple came in and looked the Buells over.

One thing we tried to do with C3 is to get HD riders interested in a more spirited ride than the parade ride to join in. Our friend John is a perfect example. He has knee problems that prevent him from riding Buells so he has modified his '04 XL1200C to suit his tastes and needs. On top of motor mods giving him 82rwhp, he has replaced the standard "Custom" lowered rear shocks with standard height "R" shocks and replaced the bicycle 21" front wheel and tire for a standard 19" front wheel and tire. He needs the forward controls of the "Custom" because of his knees. He has over 40,000 miles on his Sporty and is not afraid to ride it cross state or down a twisty road at a drop of the hat.

I think if Badweb can root out the performance/long distance riders in the HD crowd it would be a positive. I can say there are several here that can flat out ride their HDs, custodians included. If the Hog Pen brings the performance/long distance HD riders, it can only be a positive. Buell is part of the performance wing of HD, so adding performance HD riders to the fold is a good match.

I vote a resounding NO to any harley section. Please, please keep the harley-riding RUBs as far away as possible. You know, like the way most HD shops treat Buells.

In truth, Buells are more kindred in spirit to Ducatis and Honda and Suzuki V-twin sportbikes than they are to their distant cruiser cousins, DNA be damned.

If some of you insist, how about a section devoted to all other bike manufacturers, not just harleys? That ought to cover the whole gamut.

Wow,I don't have any prejudice against any bike. I own more than one brand as a matter of fact.
I have a customer (who has become my friend) who owns more than one bike as well. An Ultra Classic, an X1 and a Hayabusa. He gets the attitude from the Harley guys and the Metric guys...I didn't think that there would be such from the Buell guys. Those are the guys I know...most tolerant. I don't get it.

I think a section devoted to "My other bike" makes a great deal of sense. - That would include all the Buell riders.
And, I think, would be interesting to all of us.

In my opinion, I think the worst thing any one or any group could do on a internet forum is to take themselves too seriously. I like this place cause most everyone seems "real" to me. I couldnt care less if there was a Harley board here, or even a "fridge repair" board. What is said is more important to me that what is being ridden, or what type of fridge your fixin..heh.. Dont get me wrong, its great that Buells rule here as it helps Buell riders immensly(sp) but there is a wealth of motorcycling info out there that isnt Buell specific. Segregation sux...the mind is like a parachute, works best when opened

For God's sake keep those stainless steel farklin' Frigidaire owners off the Badweb. They are such poseurs - always talking about their precious "storage space" and refusing to wave to Maytag owners when they pass each other in the mall.

In 1999, I chose to purchase a HD Sportster XL12S over all the bikes available, including Buell. The reasons were personal, including, all-metal motorcycle, classic motorcycle look, prestigious model line history (since 1957), belt drive, hydraulic valve train, dual disk front breaks, and adjustable forks and rear shocks, and she was Silver.

After 60,000 miles, I decided to get a stable mate, something that had caught my eye on several visits for service fluids from the parts department at the Harley dealership. Based on the experience with my previous relationship, I felt comfortable in taking a chance on a drop-dead gorgeous marvel of American engineering. This would be my first Buell an XB12R and she is black.

I now have 12,000 miles on her as well, and still ride my Sportster about half the time. See I don't own a car, and the Buell is more expensive to operate (sticky tires and speeding tickets arn't cheep).

Both bikes have soul, and I can't part with either, and neither seems to mind my mixed attentions. I choose the Buell when I want smooth, the Sporty when I want vibes.

BadWeB is very tolerant of other brands and bikes. It is our collective Buell experience and mentality that keeps us together.

I don't think a "stable mates" section would hurt Buell business here on BadWeB, and I think a lot of folks might find owning a "all-metal motorcycle" a complement to daily life. I would also like to bridge the gap at the dealerships to prosper both excellent companies. It could start here.

I haven't owned a Buell in about two years now. But can't tear myself away from the BadWeb. It is the people, it is that simple.

The people and things that keep me away from most of the H-D forums are not here.

We've had a number of threads about H-D cruisers break out here spontaneously and I was surprised at the number of people here that have and/or enjoy riding and discussing Dynas and SuperGlides.

The middleweights like the Dynas and Softails are the next and natural step for us folks that are addicted to the H-D twins and want more comfort or cargo capacity.

I'm a little surprised at the vindictive remarks from some that don't want to see anything like this here. I write that off to youth, ignorance, and bad manners. Give some of those folks another 20 or 30 years on bikes and they'll probably see the light.

I suspect that if it were tried it would turn out to be a non-problem.

My Dyna has a little more than a standard amount of chrome on it because it came to me that way. But it's look and feel does not offend me.

My interests for it now are in and about things where many here can share knowledge with me. I've improved the brakes, I'm going to add about 20 HP to the engine after this coming season, and the front and rear suspensions are going to be upgraded when I hit the roads this spring.

The H-D middleweights are the perfect bikes for the person that wants a more comfort, a solid commuter/day ride, and just generally enjoys tinkering with H-D drivelines.

I want to talk about many of the same kinds of things that are discussed about Buells here. And I want to do that with the same people or same kind of people.

So I'm in favor of it under any name.

Jack
