Anyone from Badweb going to be working at the IMS Show at the Javitts Ctr.? We'll be there on Friday afternoon and would love to stop by and say Hello! In the past, I've met Anthony C. and Don Gomo; I'd like to meet more of you.
I'll be there on Sunday. Ask for me at the Trama's Auto School booth if you like.
A bunch of Bad Webbers are meeting at the Dinosaur BBQ on Friday around 5:00 - 6:00. Check "Court in Session" for the details. Friday is my birthday, so I had other plans in place already. Damn shame because I LOVE the Dinosaur!!
The show was much smaller than last year, as it was in the lower, smaller level, while the Boat Show had the best spot upstairs.
Many top brands like Triumph and Aprilia just were not there, and there were very few customs.
I got a bit of good info on my Harley.
The only bright spot was the Buell stand. Compared to just a few years ago when there were really only two models, in two displacements, the stand now was much larger, and showed a full range of exciting motorcycles.
The show was in the same place as last year, but it did seem smaller. Aprilia was there but Triumph was not - again. I don't understand that. Buell did expand their exhibit. Got a good look at the 1125. Really didn't like the looks. Ducati exhibit was disappointing. They didn't have anything that I couldn't find at the local dealer except for the motogp bike. If you wanted to buy a pair of sunglasses you had many choices. Should have been the International Sunglasses Show. Except for the exhibit on the Salt Flat racers, the show was uninspiring as usual. Think next year I won't waste my money. I don't understand why motorcycle companies don't exhibit concept vehicles or go back in history and drag out some specials. Would be much more fun.
I went today as well. Breezed through it in two hours, no real big thrills - they even took away the jumps from the BOSS stunt show so now all you see is a couple of wheelies, brakies and two riders in the steel ball (the third was out due to injury/surgery) - dull there too.
I did get my 25th Buell patches - that was good.
If any BadWebbers coming out to the show on Sunday, stop by the MANYS booth and say hi. I'll be there till about 1pm.
Whew!!!!! What a day it was.We went out Saturday morning by Acela express. What a ride with all the Patriots fans going out for the game.Everyone was liberally imbibing. My first rail trip, the ride was AWESOME.The show was not very enlightening..but the 1125R is also {AWESOME!!We really love the similarity to the 12R.Got our patches too and will apply them to our jackets. We saw most of the show in a couple hours. Then got hand stamped and taxied over to the Dinosaur grill for the best BBQ ever! Thanks for the tips Court. We went back to the show to kill time before our train ride home and while we were walking around, found ourselve walking next to ROLAND! I said.."Hey! It's YOU!" And he replied,"yep". We walked with him back to his display and got a sig and i thanked him for my most excellent Buell/PM wheels. The Amtrak is awesome.
We had a (another) great meal at the Dinosaur on Friday night and the place was packed to the gills!
The Acela thing sounds awesome, I've read about it and it sounds like THE way to travel.
From the reports I've heard the 1125R is getting TONS of attention. My prediction is that >50% of first year buyers will be new to Buell/HD products. Buell has an excellent opportunity to impress a lot of new folks and make them customers for life.
I went to the show on saturday. Loved the looks of the 1125R. I have to admit, it didn't look all that great in any of the pictures I've seen, but really looks good in person. The best part of the show was standing next to the 1125R and listening to all the comments on its looks. Opinions are like... you know what I mean. Most people liked it, everyone wanted to ride it. Anyway it was a nice ride down and back on the Uly. Manhatten streets are no match for the Ulysses.
We went to the Show on Friday. We had our usual good time, but there seemed to be a marked lack of enthusiasm in almost everyone there; both vendors and attendees. The 1125R was getting a lot of attention from the public. We saw quite a few people checking it out. I think it's going to sell well, even though it isn't the right bike for me.(I'm still in love with my Uly) We used the show to find the best fitting helmet for our younger daughter. After trying on helmets from HJC, Shoei, Xpeed, KBC and Arai, she decided that the Arai Profile fit her best after some help from the Rep at the display. Now all we have to do is find who has them at the best price. Of all the bikes at the show, I was most taken by the Knucklehead that Joe Petralli rode to a Land Speed Record. The gentleman from BUBs let me touch it (very gently and carefully). It's a real rush to actually feel a piece of History. Of all the non-Buells at the show, the bike I would be most likely to buy is the Moto Guzzi Norge. What a beautiful piece of functional Road Sculpture! I can very easily see me crossing the country on one. I really wish Buell would build a comparable model. We got our patches, even though we forgot to bring our keys. We also got a few extra that will be put to good use. Some will be going out of the country; Europe, Australia and Canada come to mind. Of course, we got all messed up with the New York City traffic. We left the Javitts at exactly 4:00 and were heading North when we were routed into the Lincoln Tunnel. There was no way to avoid it. So, after a trip under the Hudson River, we emerged in New Jersey. We managed to find our way back to the Tunnel and made it back to the Javitts Center exactly one hour after we left. We got to the Dinosaur late, but still found Court; then Jim found us and we all enjoyed a great meal and great conversation. (I heartily recommend the Big Ass Pork Plate). It was a Good Day spent immersed in Motorcycles, Buells and Buell People.
Well, I got to chat with Gomo and Mutation Racer today. After wandering around the entire show from 10:30 to about 3:00 I was too damned tired to ride up to Harlem for the Dinosaur so we went to the Blue Smoke instead. I posted that experience in "Court in Session" and won't repeat it here (but we should've gone to the Dinosaur instead).
Great show! Not as crowded but then that ALWAYS happens when they schedule it this week... everyone is out of town on vacation!
LOVED the MV Agusta F4CC. That's my new favorite object of lust, but for the $120,000 asking price it's too far out of my league. Heck, there are still parts of this country (NOT in New York) where that kind of money would buy you a HOUSE!
Checked out Rossi and Stoner's MotoGP bikes. Found out the KTM RC8 won't be in the States until this Fall as a 2009 model (once again we get screwed in this country).
Naturally got my Buell patch, and my Cycle World calendar as well as my AMA pin and sidestand plate. I also signed up for a two year subscription to Cycle World (for only $14) and got my boots treated with Doc Bailey's (I even bought a kit to take home... I was impressed).
That's it for my report. Had a GREAT time and sorry I didn't run into more Bad Webbers!
