CLEARWATER, Fla. — Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose exploits made him an international icon in the 1970s, died today. He was 69.

Knievel’s death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs.

Knievel had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one of his bone-shattering spills.

While Evel was jumping cars and trucks, I was jumping trash cans...13 to be exact!

Damn he was cool!

He's the guy that got me interested in motorcycles.

As a young child I remember going to a dirt track in Moses Lake Washington and watching him jump a pit of rattlesnakes and a caged cougar, long before his days of jumping fountains and canyons, or should I say attempting to jump fountains and canyon.

Evel you will be missed, Godspeed!

He was tougher than a nickel steak. : )

it's a shame that the only video clip they show is that bad crash. they oughta show some clips of the long SUCCESSFUL jumps.

guys like travis pastrana owe their careers to him. way to go, Evel.

Company I worked for (Don Edmunds Autoresearch in Anaheim) built the Skycycle 3 years before I went to work there:

He was an a**hole then, he was an a**hole to the end.

I've posted elsewhere that I'm sure that there's a woman in hell who needed a beatin'

ahole or not, he still inspired alot of people out there. he had been known by some people down in the tampa/clearwater/st.pete area to just show up and if you were in the right place at the right time, you'd be able to go riding with him.

Not too long ago Evel actually asked the Lord into his life. It goes to show you're never too old and no matter what you've done in your life God loves us.

He realized that what he had and everything he had done were meaningless without the Lord.

May he rest in peace in Heaven

Yes, I know he was an a$$hole(most people thrust into fame like that would be too.), but he was one of my heroes when I was a kid. I watched every televised event he ever did. I had all the toys. I got more scars, scrapes, and bruises from trying to imitate his stunts on my bicycle than from any other bad influence I ever had. I'm sure my life wouldn't be as much fun today, if his life wasn't as crazy back then.

Godspeed Evel..... Thanks!

Does it matter what the guys personal opinions where. On a motorcycle we all wanted to be him. Sadly I think the end game showed he lived a few years to long.

Evel

I believe every motorcycle stunter from Bubba to the local squids that do shows in the local dealers parking lots owe everything to Evil.
