This is only like 8 months late but last spring i was handed a dvd with some helmet cam footage filmed by a few different riders (no name will be given to protect the guilty) and have been putting a few videos together. Youtube only allows 100mb files (Yea they suck) so i put posted a mix thats alittle over 7 min. and all nasty corners. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSjIlZF5UfI} note: the music in this video has some minor swearing. nothing you wouldn't find in a pg-13 movie but i just wanted to warn those watching at the office or at home with children around. If you check out the rest of my channel you can find some other videos from that weekend also some videos from this years Headless Horseman run. enjoy |

I bet there someone had a huge pucker moment with the passing maneuver about 3/4 the way in. That oncoming SUV looked frightening from here. |

Tons of fun but I hate to see that type of vid open to public viewing. The heat's already on in the Southeast mountains and this can't help. |

I agree. What happened to the days of getting everybody together to view the videos among friends? Does everything have to go public now days? |

That was Firebolteric_ma that went off the road in the video. He was trying to be like Cityslicker without much success. |

Some constructive commentary, not meant as preaching, but as friendly concerned advice from an old (I've seen and done a few things, and it sometimes hurts when I get up too quickly) fellow sport-riding enthusiast: Seems like there is a LOT of early apexing going on, at least by one of the riders. An early apex leads to running wide on corner exit. On a public road that can often be a deadly situation. On public roads, late apexing is the way to go; it gives you more time to see more of the road ahead. Remember, you aren't racing. You're out riding to have fun and enjoy life and the cameraderie of fellow sport riders, yes? There also seems to be lots of running very near the edge/shoulder of the road. Keep in mind that just a bit of debris, slippery stuff, a deranged or dumbfounded critter, or a momentary lapse in concentration is all it can take to ruin the day, especially if you haven't left yourself room to avoid such road hazards. Always leaving yourself room to both the left AND right for a quick avoidance maneuver is a very shrewd habit to develop. Please learn from one who learned the hard way. Been there, done that. Riding race-track-aggressive on public roads is nothing short of gambling with your life and possibly the lives of others. Many have so-gambled and many have lost, paying the ultimate price. Learn from their mistakes. We are likely no better at riding than many of them were. Imagining that we somehow are and gambling on that with our lives is a death trap. It really is just as much if not more fun riding public roads in the slot at "the pace" than when pushing harder using the entire lane and having to hit the brakes coming into every sharp turn. The "slot" to which I refer is roughly the center half of the lane. Also try some rockin' Rossini, Bach, Tchaikovsy, Wagner, or Bethoven in place of the angry head-banging stuff. |

Blake, that video does not show the "The Pace" that is considered acceptable by those of us who live here and ride year round. We ride fast. Plain and simple. Only out of comfort of the roads and our knowledge of said roads, we can attain a safe higher rate of speed than most riders. Have you been to March Badness? If not, you should. I bet I could change your mind. (Just ask Djkaplan- he knows!) Smokescreen (Message edited by smokescreen on November 16, 2007) |

What Blake said kinda plus, make sure you ride on your tip toes or on the balls of your feet. Riding with duck feet can lead to painful footuswrapusarounduspegus. More Pantera please!! Can't wait until March! |

"Just ask Djkaplan- he knows!" Hey man... I didn't see nuthin' That video shows riders of various levels of experience, some of whom had never ridden on roads with so many successive corners. I don't believe any footage exists of the smoothest and most skilled riders out there (I'm only thinking of maybe 5 or 6 people - you know who you are) because no one with a camera has been able to capture them at speed. These riders aren't out there riding at insane speeds all day... it's a much more methodical approach from what I've witnessed. I've never seen one of these guys riding over their heads or in anything but complete control and composure. It's a thing with them, the composure part. If you're lucky enough to be behind one of these guys when they decide to pull the trigger, you'll get the show of a lifetime if you can keep up. |

The Prodigy! Good choice! Time to dig out that CD. I wish there were more roads like that near Green Bay. Bill |

"Some constructive commentary, not meant as preaching, but as friendly concerned advice.... Seems like there is a LOT of early apexing going on, at least by one of the riders." Your concern about the early apexing was voiced by one of the grizzled locals as we watched riders attacking Gixxer Corner. An astute observation I thought at the time, especially in light of the source. |

"We ride fast. Plain and simple. Only out of comfort of the roads and our knowledge of said roads, we can attain a safe higher rate of speed than most riders." What I've seen from these guys is riders confirming road conditions first while pre-riding as much as possible, conferring with each other over traffic condtions and patterns, and generally trying to be as cool as possible for the conditions before 'The Pace' picks up. What you don't see in the video is a fast 3%er slowing down the group when approaching areas frequented by hikers and people enjoying the outdoors. These areas can't be seen from the road until you are right on them, so knowledge of the area is very important for this consideration. You don't see the hand signals they flash when passing to let riders behind them know the road is clear ahead of them, you don't see the 'private talk' you get from a rider who knows a lot better than you do that it might be a good idea to cool it a little when they see you riding over your head. If anyone ever goes to North Georgia, these are definitely the guys you want to hook up with. |

Well said DJ. Good videos, good music as well. I love looking a this stuff and critiquing. As long as the riders being talked about don't get offended it will only make further Badness even more fun. Blake is right with regards to apexes. I'm so looking forward to MB-V. Thanks for the vids Chulada. |

From the opening statement on the video "NO LAWS WERE BROKEN DURING FILMING" And the first thing we see is several bikes crossing a double yellow line to make an illegal pass on a slower vehicle... Not trying to flame or anything just an observation.. |

Oh... you're talking about Man's Law over Man. Yeah... those were all broken. But not Newton's Laws or the space/time continuum... those were just ripped a little. |

Unless there are corner workers at every turn to warn you of dangerous conditions, no matter how recently you checked the route, you can never know for sure if it is safe, clean, and clear. Again, it's nothing short of gambling with your life. Take it to the track. Being a knee-dragging hero on a public road seems like good fun, until someone ends up in the hospital or dead. I've had friends die from motorcycle crashes and I've spent time in the hospital myself due to pushing the envelope on a public road. I sure hope that I've learned my lesson. Some more grouchy old man words of advise for the indestructible ones: Attention is best focused on the road ahead rather than on the rider(s) ahead. Too much concern for "keeping up with" the rider(s) ahead is a common ingredient in many two-wheeled recipes for disaster. |

I can't help but agree with you Blake. Someone better coordinate an intervention for Gentleman_jon. He was so normal when we first met him, and now he's a strung out speed junkie when he's down here. |
