Eh, I'm not into dirt bikes anyway. As far as I'm concerned, this is GREAT news. Buell isn't Honda, they don't have unlimited resources. Far better they use the resources they do have to concentrate on the one area they do better than ANYONE else: sporting STREET motorcycles.

I was never on board with the Buell dirtbike anyway. I even got an admonishment from an Anony when I said as much.

Well Anony... you said I was going to be wrong for all time. Looks like I won't get that chance... just yet.

The question now is if the bike shows up badged as a CanAm under the auspices of Bombardier.

Hmm. In talking to Erik on Saturday, he was saying he was hoping to replace a couple of the Japanese Dirt Bikes that he had on his farm with an american one. At least I am pretty sure he said something along those lines. Came up when around the time talking about someone asked him to put te 1125R motor in the Uly.

This is truly a sad day. I had hoped that the dirt bike would be the wedge that Buell needed to get out of the Harley-Davidson dealerships. I am a Buell owner and a former Harley owner. The difference in treatment I received at the same dealership based on the bike I rode in was astonishing.

Here's hoping that Buell can find success in the future in spite of the Harley-Davidson dealerships apathy for the brand and its owners.

Or look at this from outside the box. This will shift worldwide attention while they are really developing something unique in dirtbikes. It's not like they have never said one thing and done another (we will never use watercooling). Brian

Would be nice to know if any running bikes were actually made or were they just mock ups. Computer generated or not. If so the tooling would still be there.

I was kinda hoping that the dirtbike motor might be the basis for the next Blast ... maybe all is not lost.

If there were I doubt that it would be widley known

for now.

My 0.02$ later may be better.
the existing dirt bikes from japan and europe are quite good and bettering them will take time and resources.

That may be needed else where just now.

You've got to believe there's a LOT more to the story than we've heard. Hopefully an Anony or Court will chime in here eventually and shed a little more light on the situation.

Crusty, look at the bright side.... Now they have more resources to dedicate to a sport touring bike : )

The difficult and costly part, developing the 1125, is already complete. Doing what they did with the XB line, adding variant models, to the 1125 is just icing on the cake.

Hmm. In talking to Erik on Saturday, he was saying he was hoping to replace a couple of the Japanese Dirt Bikes that he had on his farm with an American one

Sounds like he was the last to know. That, in and of itself, is interesting.

I heard a rumor that one existed but that is just hearsay.

It would have been nice to see some American iron out on the dirt track but emotions don't pay the bills. In order to build brand loyalty, Buell would have needed to field a full line of dirt bikes to fit the youngest to the oldest and THAT certainly would cost a lot of money. Furthermore, could a 450, let alone a 50cc bike be built in the U.S. and be competitively priced and remain relevant?

It is too bad.

I see so many transportation companies fail to achieve their full potential because of a lack of vision to expand into different markets. Being able to draw a income from different sources helps to keep the entire company healthy during market shifts.

Someone needs to read "Who Moved My Cheese" before its too late.

If HD continues in the same direction they will very soon be in the same position as Chrysler in 1974. Its like a toy company that refuses to make anything but YoYos. Sure, they have them in all the colors of the spectrum, plus some that glow in the dark, and in all different sizes but suddenly kids are playing with slinkys.

Mikey.....and to all that think this is great.

IMHO Dirt bikes would have eventually got Buell out of HD dealerships. Like I said several months ago.....I could never picture a dirt bike sitting side by side with a 30k cruiser. Until buell increases it's offerings we are stuck with Harley dealerships and the way they treat us.

I too live in fear of the chrome-and-buttless-chaps people trying to sell ANYTHING with legitimate performance.

When the sales staff starts to make the same money on the sale of a Buell as they do with a HD motorcycle......

They wont be able to keep them on the floor....

Isn't that about what it took to get into the Superbike V-Twin market?
