LOL...yeah, Firebolts were definitely the casualties of the day down at the Gap...something like 5 out of the 7 dumps were 'bolts? Hehe...oh, well. Gave me some scars, a story, and a little more wisdom and experience.

Dathane,
were you at Deal's Gap last year?

Looking forward to riding the "old" buell with you guys. We'll also be meeting up at XB9s, looks like a party to me.

Shazam, how we gonna do the wheelie photo-ops? Guess I better start practicing. Actually roda a bolt for the first time yesterday. Definitely different

A couple more riders from BRAG Club Cleveland may also be meeting up with us Saturday morning for my "twisty route to Columbus", so we should have a good group coming down from Cleveland. Gonna miss you on this one, Shazam!

Old roadracer saying: "If you never crash, your not going fast enough" Lame excuse, huh? :)

Ya he was there last yr. Was wearing one of the broken parts from his bike at the Brag dinner as a necklace.

Bolts were crashing left & right last year. Did anyone ever find out the final prognosis for the rider who hit the road sign just outside of Fontana & was airlifted out??

...yeah...I never even got to ride the actual Dragon (took it in my truck 4 times - unfortunately the bike was always in the back of it). Broke the fairing mount, brake lever, turn signal, fusebox, and the peg, which it tried to shove through my foot. Got a nice hole in my Sidi boots and a broken bone for that one.

And yes, my girlfriend and I wore the two pieces of footpeg as necklaces at the final dinner. LOL

Darthane,
I thought I saw you at the dinner and in the pickup here and there. Glad you still had a sense of humor, that ride was tough on the bolts.

Dyna were you there?

Shazam: what exactly are things you wouldn't do, I mean after gophering a hole with hillybilly the mind wanders.....

I'll try and keep them on the up and up. Well at least while I can see them

I keep going back and forth on the seat, V2win gave the corbin the thumbs up, everone else seems to think they suck. I have an extra seat that I'm thinking of sending to sargent. For now its still find a cold place to sit and some beers to drink after 20 hrs in the saddle.

Matt

Yeah, shit happens, life goes on. That Saturday, when it rained all morning, my g/f and I took the truck out and about to all the waterfalls in the area, which were beautiful. By the time we got back, it was GORGEOUS outside, but I couldn't find a soul in ALL of Fontana to help me get my bike out of the truck! Eventually a pair of Buellers came in (heard 'em coming a mile away - forgot his name, but he's the guy that has that beautiful custom orange S2 that shows up everywhere), and I took off away from the Dragon. Got about 10 minutes out and it started sprinkling, so I figured I'd pull a u-turn and head back for the dinner. Just got turned around and it POURED. I got completely soaked, had a good laugh at the look on my g/f's face when I walked in the door of our cabin, changed and ran off to the dinner.

Am I torqued I didn't get to ride the Dragon? A bit. Did I have a great time anyway, crash, rain, and all? You bet your ass.

I was there. Had my X1 in the back of my truck, It died in smokey mountain park & I had to hitchhike 65 miles back to fontana. At least I got to make 3 trips thru the dragon before the bike died.

I was also at the dinner...they had us standup 1 by 1 & introduce ourselves even. Was there with my wife & sitting at the table with shazam.

I have never gotten a real answer yet...bike is still broken...warranty & dealer issues that have yet to be resolved.

We were riding thru the park & I had commented to the wife earlier that the bike was running great. Oil had been changed before the trip, new plugs etc. Stopped off to see Bridal falls & when we came back the bike fired up for a second & then died. No weird noises, no bang, no nothing. It would crank but not fire. Pulled the plugs, had spark, had gas, etc. got her home & dealer informs me the oil pump is bad...the light had never come on during the trip. It took out the cases, the cams, another valve, etc. Nobody will or can tell me for sure what happened.

I made 4 more runs on the dragon tho with my truck while the bike was tied up in the bed:D Chased one fella on a shovelhead Harley the whole way, my tires were howling like mad & I was pushing that truck as hard as it would go. He kept looking back to see where I was but couldnt shake me. I was laughing my ass off at the ridiculous thought of a 4x4 Ranger with a Buell in the bed keeping up with a bike on the Dragon.

Had one butt puckering moment with the X1 on the dragon tho. Was going at it with a pretty good pace & had the wife on back. Came around 1 curve & hit a small patch of gravel that car must have kicked up. Front end slid out to the left about 8-10" & I thought for a second "OH SHIT!!" but then it stopped sliding hooked up again & I just kept going...at a lot slower pace I might add.

Is that him in the white hat in the 60th pic? I remember seeing him coming in to Deal's Gap in that Ranger 4X4, then Sat morning at the Village info center, with the Buell back in the bed and bitching (with good reason) to my buddies about it.

Oh, seeing those brings something else to mind...where the hell is José?

Okay,
I made one whole day of the ride. See the breather section of the KV for why.

Anyways, Ohio has some great roads, and I only saw 16 miles of them!

Lots of cool Buells (around 100 or so), lots of Bolts and XB9s, one XB9 rigged with 2 external gas tanks for long distance riding.

Amazingly most of the people weren't aware of BadWeb, must be the "respectable" Buell crowd! .

Got a chance to talk with Erik, he was very cool (even though in obvious pain from a back problem). He spoke for with us for a long while on everything from kids to where he's going with the new bikes to Buell only dealers......

Wish I could have rode longer, ...next time

Almost forgot, shameless plug for Dave Stueve at Iowa HD. 4 days before the event I low sided the X1 requiring a new shifter. Dave found the part at another dealer and stuck with me till the deal was done. Buy stuff from him, he will take care of you.

Now Dave, could you teach the guys at my local shop?

Sorry I didn't have the stuff for your bike myself, but this was an emergency so I did the next best thing.

Thanks for the plug!

I only wish that Buell would let me train dealers for them.

Ride to the edge!

The external fuel tanks were mounted like saddlebags, off the tail section.I never saw
the owner with his bike to ask how they were
plumbed in.
