Ok, I've been away from BadWeb for a while with lots of things happening, but life is settling down and starting to get back on track. I'm getting back into riding the X1, and I'm checking BadWeb more often reading and posting stuff again, and the news about the 1125r has got me pretty excited too... And the idea of a trip to the US in early July '08 has crossed my mind...

So tell me about Homecoming... I know it's July 2-6 2008, I know it's at/near the factory, I know there will be lots of Buells and Buellers there...
But what sort of things go on?
Where do you stay?
Do you camp or motel or hotel?
Can I hire a Buell to ride???

If I planned a 2 week trip for my girlfriend and I, what other things are there to see and do in the area?

I know it's a pretty general kind of query, but thoughts would be appreciated : )
cheers,
lemonchili

I don't know what'll be happening next year, but I went from France 2 years back & I can tell you you'll meet a lot of the nicest, & friendliest, most generous people you could ever want to.
By all means go if you can, I'm sure other badwebbers would be delighted to show you some of the rides around their area.
Just remember it's a big place with lots to do so try & be selective to see the things you really want to.

I bet if you start planning your trip now you could fly into the states, rent a Buell and work your way across the country to East Troy. I'm sure there is a ton of Badwebbers that would take you in, give you a place to sleep and feed ya for free.

Lemon, If next years follows this year, then you can look for the folks at Hal's and Brew City Thunder Bikes to host and sponsor not only events, but their garages!

The weather here in SE Wis can be warm and muggy in July, but with all the events of homecoming topped off with Milwaukee's Summerfest on Lake Michigan..I'm sure the trip over would be well worth it.

there's some of the best riding close to homecoming country (SW Wisconsin is a very well kept secret, thank goodness), and the comradeship to be found amungst Buellers is second to none -- if, for some strange reason, Buell stopped making motorcycles, Buell Riders would still converge, like cicadas, on East Troy every year just to enjoy each other's company --

short version fo the answer, yes

Start planning. There will be plenty of folks coming from Australia and New Zealand.

You could fly into NYC, rent a bike from Liberty and ride to East Troy.

You ain't gonna believe it . . . start planning.

There are events at the Buell factory and the sponsoring dealers. Thats not really the reason you would want to attend Homecoming.

Like all Buell events, it ends up being about the people. You will meet people you've only known on Badweb, you'll hang out with them, you'll go into Milwakee and have a beer with them. You'll trade Buell gossip, and explain how Buell would be a much better company if you were calling the shots.

It's worth attending. Of course if you're comming all the way from Oz, you'll probably want to do more than just Homecomming. The US is huge and there is lots to see. And Canada isn't so far away either.

Get in contact with Paul in Oz as he's been up this way a few times, he's down in South Adelade. (sp?)

I think he's got the travel route figured out and should know fairly well how to integrate the HomeComing into a U.S. vacation trip with sight seeing on both ends of the Buell activities.

Tell him we said hi as I haven't seen a post of his for some time now.

Paul will likely come (he's heading back to China next month for several weeks and is busy now finishing his new recording studio - I just shipped him Mackie Tracktion software today and a couple pedal boards that look like surf boards) and I'd not be surprised to see Ross, perhaps Charles and a couple other Aussies show.

I first met Ross and Charles on the road one day . . they were zipping along and I ended up, late one day, giving them a tour of the Buell factory they still remember : )

Aussies like the US because your money goes a long way here. . . . I know, I just shipped 3 yards of fabric to cover chairs in Australia.

: )

I have had a GREAT time at the last two homecomings. Thanks in large part to my host Steve_Mackay, his lovely
wife Toni, and their young son Thomas, and my friend Tim (No_Rice) and Jen.

It really is all about the people, granted there are some great events to attend, but it's the people that make these events.
Whether they're Buell employees, Buell owners, or Buell executives they (in my experience) are almost universally people
that you can be proud to call your friend. Buellers always seem to have very similar tastes and interests.

You can also corner Court and squeeze him for more information on the "remind me to tell you" stories

It's really fun to get to tell your favorite bench racing stories to a new bunch of people too.

Oh, I like weirdo's, it makes me feel at home

There's a few big plans for next year, but it could be possible to integrate a trip to the US in that plan...

I've been to the west coast of the States when I was 7 and 21, and have been itching to go back. My parents lived in Seattle for 3 years before I was born and have friends all over the US, all incredibly nice people.

I'm thinking fly into New York (always wanted to go there), ride to Wisconsin for Homecoming and Summerfest, meet lots of Buellers, check out lots of bikes and meet people from BMC, lots of benchracing (it's a popular sport here too!) and drinking bourbon, ride heaps, see Chicago (and hopefully play some music somewhere), some general sight seeing tourist stuff, fly home from NY...

I haven't spoken to Paul in ages. He was very helpful with advice when I bought my X1, I'll have to dig out his email address. Court - didn't you pick up a 50th anniversary Strat for him a year or three ago?

If I make the trip my girlfriend will definitely be coming with me, she's never been to the US, it'd be an adventure for both of us. She loves Buells too, so I think she'd be into the idea. Actually, I think she'd love it. Seeing that Live (her fav band) played at Summerfest won't hurt either : )

Can you tell me a little more about what sort of events happen at the factory and the dealers? Is it all product type stuff?

I don't know exactly what's on tap for next year, but this year we got to:
- Go to the Boiler Room (a pub) and watch and listen to Erik and the Thunderbolts playing some damn' good rock and blues, while those who were so inclined got to sip FREE 18 year old scotch.
-Watch impressive stunt shows at two different dealerships. Free Brats, etc. at one of them
-got cheap ($5.00)admission to Great Lakes Dragway and a free meal with the option to run your own bike for a very reasonable price.
-We went to the Factory where we got to see the bikes being built, got to sir down to a free lunch (Heaps of really good food) with the workers and find out how cool the people who build our bikes are. We also got to attend seminars by Erik and Abe Askenasi (I hope I spelled his name right).
-We got to attend the CCS races and the Moto ST races at Road America. We also got to ride a "Parade Lap" (at 80 MPH) of the track.
-We were among the first "civilians" to see the unveiling of the 1125R
-AND... Terri and I got directions to the best cheese enchiladas in Racine. THANK YOU BAD S1 and NAUGHTYNURSE !
- not only that, but we got to hang out with a whole bunch of Buell Crazies the whole time!
That's on an off year. Just imagine how good it's going to be next year for the 25th Anniversary!
If you don't show up, you'll be kicking yourself.

what Crusty said!

Plus Hanging out and talking casually with Erik, John Flickinger, and Bubba Blackwell.
(what other brand makes the CEO, and the man who's name is on the airbox that accessible?)

Group rides down some very fun twisty roads (Thanks tattooodnscrewed, Purplepeopleeater, Steve_mackay, and Budc)

From all reports I'm hearing EPIC is the word to describe what they are planning for the 25th homecoming. I can't wait!

I would like to get Erik to play again next year. Erik You listening??lol Brian,no need to bring the single Malt.... but I'll say that was one of the coolest thing's a Buell guy could do. As plans get rolling I'll speak to Erik in the future to see if its possible again. Crusty, your welcome,I know even better Mexican then that but I'll have to take you and the wife there. Ya see if I tell I have to go to.....its that damn good.lol

I know that I am TRYING to figure out a way to ride there from CA, partake in the festivities, and ride back. The reason I am TRYING is because my Anniversary (#12) is July 6, and well I was gone riding on #10 so...I dunno, maybe...Also have to see if a friend of mine will go with me (even though he rides a BMW GS)

It would be nice to ride back. I've not made it to a Homecoming and this would be one not to miss. My Run for the Wall friends are planning to roll up through New England and Canada next May tho. Makes for a lot of time off.

Thanks again for letting me share the Scotch around Dana, I was worried I wouldn't be able to.

I really wanted to give a little back after what the "Friday night Buell relay team" did for me last year. They weren't there
at the Boiler Room, but it was the right time to do it with everyone having a way home planned out. I REALLY couldn't
live with myself if I contributed to someone else getting hurt on the road. Know what I mean?

Besides, like I said, my current meds keep me from drinking alcohol other than just the tiniest sip.
Pain meds like methadone don't mix well with scotch for some reason.

I had a look over budgets last night and maybe I'm being just a little optimistic about 2008 : ( There's a lot to do in the next 6-12 months including car rebuilds and some mods to the X1, maybe buying a sport touring bike, plus another big event next year : D

But Homecoming sounds like it'd be a huge buzz, and I'm itching to visit the U.S. again, and combined with Summerfest it would make a great adventure... so we might miss the 25th Anniversary, but that gives more time to plan and I think you'll be seeing us in 2009!

Lemon, if money's an issue you could cut a few corners. Fly into Milwaukee instead of New York, and rent a Buell from Hals for a shorter length of time. You could camp for a whole lot less than staying in a motel would cost. I'm sure there are local Badwebbers who would let you set up in their yard. Hell, I'll buy you and your girlfriend a dinner at the Mexican restaurant Dana's going to show us.
I had the chance to go to Woodstock back in 1969, and passed it up. I've regretted it ever since.
