Hi, My name is Mark (aka Wolf Ridge Rider) I have Buellwheelieitis.

Every time I get on my Uly the front wheel finds itself up in the air. I see another rider = wheelie, I come to a stop sign or light = wheelie, I am leaving the dealership = wheelie, My wife is watching = NO wheelie I pull into my driveway and not know the wife is watching = wheelieoops, busted. This bike is so much fun to ride! I look forward to the ride to work, (its a suck fest once I get here) and then the ride home that always turns into taking the LONG way home.

Anybody else have a case of Buellwheelieitis or CornerCarvation?

I have my first trackday coming up in June and I think this may be HUGE mistake as far as my wallet is concerned but should cure the CornerCarvation or it will fan the flame!

Anybody have a like problem? If so, what do you do to get your fix?

I'm a wheelieahaulic. I've had wheelieitis for many years. It started back in the '60s. It's actually gotten worse over the years, especially since my first XB9/Drummer in '03. I just can't help myself. I've considered therapy but I doubt that it would work........

THATS HOW IT ALL STARTS!!

The first few times it happens by accident and then you find yourself trying to make it happen and then you just do it all the time!

I need to work on shifting with the front wheel up in the air but my other testicle needs to drop before that happens!!

You dont need to shift if you hit the Balance point. Third gear at about 90mph you can ride for miles......

I must be totally immune to this disease. Year and a half, zero wheelies.

I gotta start in 1st gear to get it up. I guess what I am doing is a power wheelie. The balance point is still off in the distant future, But I am still looking for it.

Wolfridgerider,
practice 2nd gear clutch drops. Nothing crazy, just rev a lil bit and you will see how much throttle it takes to get her up. 1st gear pulling it up is too short of a gear for a decent wheelie.

Cover the rear brake. If you don't, you might get a nasty surprise!

Wheelieitis is very contageous. I frequently suffer from the symptoms. I like to think I am reducing the wear on my front tire. 1st gear are fun for a quick snap up. 2nd gear clutch wheelie I can ride for about 10 seconds. Third gear is more difficult. I only have a 9s so I bet a 12 would be more conducive to 3rd gear.

Be careful where you wheelie. I can wheelie my ass off on the straight roads where I live, but when I tried to show off at the gas station at Deals Gap, I almost wheelied into a ditch... in front of everybody.

Then I did the same thing again at the scenic stop... of course, in front everyone that was there, too.

I did bust a 150 yard wheelie at the reservoir, where the road is fairly straight... but of course, only two people saw it.

The 9 will come up in third.

Wheelie's are an art form, they take lots of practice, patience, and cojones!

I am an official member of the "flipped it over" club. I was in second doing a clutch up and she came right over on me like I was standing still. The next one I came down wrong, (I really dont remember anything) and tank slapped into a ditch, all the while breaking my neck.

So my only advice is try second gears going about 35mph, rev to a steady rpm (3.5k to start) and drop the clutch, hold the throttle, dont roll on, just ride it out. Gradually increase the rpm or rolling on a little to get further.

If you crash it is not my fault so dont blame me!

I have ended up face first in the dirt a few times on my YZ after a real nice unplanned rear dismount.

I wish to avoid that on the pavement.

Rail road tracks, speed bumps, bumps in the road, hell I can't even resist tar snakes and beer cans. I love the way they sound when the rear tire crushes them into the pavement.

Excuse me while I go seek counsuling.

Ha! I flipped my RM125 over on a 4th gear stand-up, but it wasn't my face that hit the ground first. Let me just say I have a scar of shame... in a shameful place.

...come to think of it, I've flipped over on every dirtbike I ever owned. If I can make it out of the first decade of the 21st century without looping a bike, it'll be the first decade since the 70's I haven't.

hehehehehe, I watched that (with another 300 people I'm sure.)

NO KIDDING! I was following Mark to Badness from Columbus, MAN was that difficult. Watching him wheelie away from half the traffic lights, and I'm stuck behind him DYING to try it, but knowing that this far away from home is NOT the time to try new things.

Someday I will own one of these newer bikes you folks speak of. Then it will be my time. My wheelie time.

Thanks, buddy. Please don't tell me I had toilet paper stuck to my boot too. Thankfully, stupid was just embarassing this time, not painful... like it usually is.

I'm a victim of cornercarvitis. Wheelies are fine and dandy, but they can wait.

I hear the Starboyz offer a class...

I'm pretty much the same way. I wheelie coming off almost every 90 degree turn I make some days. Sometimes you have to reduce corner exit speeds in order to get a good loft going so if I'm going through any kind of decent corners there's no wheelies goin' on. A few hard lessons in the way of $400 tickets have taught me where not to wheelie (damn confiscated vehicles cops are using 'round here...and the wife will really hate those!).

I love doing stoppies, too, but don't yet have the skills to be consistent. It'll have to wait 'till I get me a proper supermoto for practice.

Track days are addicting. After you do one it'll be like a addiction that can't never be cured!

unfortunately this is not true.

i too am a member of the "flipped it over" club. AND NO ONE EVEN SAW IT!!!!!!

i too am a victim of buellawheelieitis. and it cost me my tail section. she's good as new now, but i'm proof that you should definitely cover the rear brake instead of standing on the passenger pegs....

on a happier note,
my cityX finally learned how to do a 2nd gear yesterday. hit the balance point at 5 grand and just rode it out. yet to do 3rd on the 984.

2nd gear sure is more fun than first, though....
