Christ All Mighty! NOW Hal's has to pick up the slack!?
I thought they gave the slack back to Buell because Buell had a "Host Hotel" lined up?!

Unless Buell gets the lead out of their @ss or they just say they need help, Homecoming this year will be a total wash.
Of course that's just my opinion.
Waiting for some one to prove me wrong.

As a newbie here I have to tell ya, Im not impressed. Homecoming seems like such a cool thing, and the lack of perperation just blows my mind. I plan to go, but I only live about 10 miles from the factory so its not a problem for me.
Sorry if Im stepping on anyones toes or caused hurt feelings but this is just sorry planing on someones part. Realistically, Why wait for the factory or Hals to suggest a host hotel? A hotel is a hotel. You can get to the factory or Hals or Union Grove (drag strip) from anywhere. It seems to me that a location central to those three places would make the most sense, and then ride to Elkhart Lake for the races, its not that far.
There seems to be enough regulars/locals here that someone should just say, "heres the deal, a block of rooms have been reserved until such and such a date, then they will be released" From my own experiance planning for groups on snowmobile trips and the Woodward Dream Cruise, your always going to have someone not happy with the location. At that point, I usually tell them that they are welcome to handle it next year.
Id be more than happy to help with this next year if asked, but time is short and Id rahter not get involved in this years planning.
Again, I truly dont mean to tick anyone off here, and maybe theres something Im not aware of, though I dont know what that may be.
Ok, thats it. Start letting me have it.

Chuck

You know, the members of this board did a pretty damn good job for the 20th Anniversary in 2003. Why not just let Dana, Tony and Dennis set up something? I'm sure that there are a lot of other members who would be willing to help out with logistics and details.
The way things are going, it seems like whoever is in charge is deliberately trying to make Homecoming a fiasco.
Being the Buell Enthusiasts that we are, and knowing how much fun we have when we get together, I think we have an obligation to show them that we mean business.

Thanks Crusty,I've pretty much been involved as much as possible or up to my neck since the 2001 Homecoming. I have offered,I have put in my 2 cents on what I could do. If Steve Mackay would like a hand I'd love to help but this time the enthusiasm isn't there and I wish it was. We could set up hotel, banquet dinner but that would have to be prepaid because of costs and that could be ran through a Badweb members Paypal account. Get a guest speaker Erik,Henry Duga,The Prez, hell we could get Court to guest speak. I bet we could remind him of alot of things he didn't tell us.LOL Wouldn't that be a HOOT ?? Just like Steve I'm more familiar with my area right here and the people that own the businesses. I could set up the dinner at the same place as the we did the 20th. Let me know Steve. This is something that time is running out and from past years experience if you want these deals to work ya gotta get the Badweb involved and make a go of it.

A little birdie told me the Hotel info and stuff was *SUPPOSED* to be posted Friday. But the word has it, their IT dept dropped the ball. If we don't hear something from them by Tuesday, I'm calling some of the Brookfield Hotels back Wednesday.

I can't speak for Hals, but Brew City will help pick up the slack. Dana, if you want to try and set up a dinner, I'm all for it.

There are plans in motion for a shindig for Thursday at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI. Brew City is planning a route to take us down there, trying to avoid the superslab as much as possible. Starting from Hals...

Friday night, Court and I have some PonzaRottas to eat : ) Anyone else who wants to tag along, is more than welcome.

Crusty, sorry, VT Maple Syrup wont go well with a Ponzarotta

Steve:

The little birdie wrote me, asked for input and said the info would be posted by Thanksgiving. I reminded the birds again on November 17th when I was in meetings at Juneau.

Then the birdies said "no later than the first of the year".

The overseas folks have already written the gig off.

When the decision was made to do the "non-traditional" weekend, someone should have been responsible for planning, communicating and executing.

Not impressive.

Funny thing. None of this comes as a surprise to me. I guess in comparison, BRAG didn't do such a bad job after all. There was no passion from the Ladies that ran BRAG. They always seemed like they were in a bad mood, at least
when I saw them. BUT, at least they had some info and things set up.
I can see it now. A 10X10 EZ-UP and a Gott water cooler filled with lemonade. That will be the courtesy tent this year.

There was no passion from the Ladies that ran BRAG. They always seemed like they were in a bad mood...

I personally saw how much work Leslie Prevish put into Homecoming in 1999. During the week, she would get up at 5:00 AM and run out the door so that things would be ready on time. She worked her butt off all day and evening, and didn't get home until Midnight. She tried to be friendly and enthusiastic to everyone, but after a few days I'm sure the weariness was visible. The results reflected the work she put in; it was a great event.
In 2003, a collection of Badwebbers put on the 20th Anniversary. The Mothership had deemed that Buell wasn't worthy of a Homecoming, as their own 100th was far more important. Bad S1, Lakebueller and Spiderman formed the nucleus of a group that put on a great party. Everybody pitched in; we had factory tours, a historical ride through to the farmhouse where Erik first started, and a trip to Mukwonago to the Quonset Hut (the first "Factory") with Henry Duga describing what transpired at each location. There was a Battletrax, and a fun lunch at Hooters. We had a Great dinner, with Erik as the Guest speaker. It was so much fun that I got a tattoo to commemorate the event.
I know it's getting late, but we can still get something going. We really don't need a whole lot to have a really good time. We've proven that over and over. I know that two of the really good dealerships are in Wisconsin (Hals and Appleton), and that they'd help us out. I also know what the members of this board are capable of. With Factory tours, drag racing at Great Lakes, and road racing at Road America already lined up, all we really need is a central gathering spot, and someone to set up a dinner and let us know the cost.
If we can get a breakfast, or lunch thrown in from one of the dealerships, or maybe a Battletrax, all the better.
If someone will cook the pancakes, I'll supply the best maple syrup on this planet.

Crusty, I don't think that a Battletrax is feasible at this point. The cost of insuring the event is prohibitively expensive I hear. Also, a place to hold it. Now Hals other dealership(Wisconsin HD in Oconomowoc.) has an EXCELLENT lot to hold it in(their Rider's Edge lot), The actual Hals lot doesn't work that well.

Hals does have quite a bit planned out at this point. But I'll let BudC from Hals announce the events and schedule for things when it's all ironed out. It will be something that's never been done before. It will also be posted on Buell's site, under Owners events. If things DO work out the way I think they will, it will be extremely cool.

I could contact a restaurant close by Hals for a Thursday and/or Friday morning breakfast? Or maybe contact a Hotel for the rooms & a breakfast? I'm taking off work in about an hour, and going down to Hals later this morning to try and help light some fires so we can get some concrete plans *THIS WEEK*.

I'm seriously disappointed at Buell's cluster-f, well, you know...

>>>I know it's getting late, but we can still get something going.

That's a VERY accurate statement. There is absolutely no reason, given the collective enthusiasm of those who will be headed to the event, in concert with our "local boots on the ground" in the area (Steve, Dana, Hal's) that this can't be the BEST EVENT EVER.

There are going to be a few restrictions on things this year but if anyone is interested in doing a "Buell History Tour" I can sure wrangle that together. . .

Besides. . . as long as I get pancakes and that whatever they intend to serve me . . .well, I'm a happy camper.

I also am really looking forward to seeing Hal's again. . . those folks have done some serious good for the image of Buell dealers.

I've got a real positive take on this gig.

I want to add to my shirt collection. The Ohio dealers have no clue about clothing.

A history tour sounds fun put me on the list.

just another data point wrt past BRAG events -- Leslie did show a great deal of enthusiasm for the brand, the bikes and the riders -- her promotion was, no doubt, a great thing for HDI, but a less than wonderful thing for BRAG

if you want a Homeing shirt, arrive early, goi straight to the booth, and buy it right away -- they will likely not last long

home grown is best -- I'm thinkin that home grown is the way to go with the 25th, my own self -- it's a year or more away, but I here-by volunteer to gen up a couple of ride routes for all and sundry

the good news in all of this is that it is not too late.
Get the right people involved and the whole thing can be planned in a couple days or so. Buell riders, in general, aren't that hard to keep happy.
A central hotel/meeting place
Some good food.
Some rides or something to do.

I wonder if they will do a better job with the 25th next year?
If it were me, I'd be working on it NOW!

Hey, I'm lazy. If nothing else, how about someone local just post up an invasion date/time for us all to convene in East Troy, ride to the factory, surround it, and take hostages. I'll bring the duct tape. joker

Seriously, why not just pick a few co-located hotels and restaurants and list 'em. Folks can make their own reservations, yes? The more informal the better with just a few big meet-up events, like for the FX race and each SBK race, one for drinks and dinner one night (invite Court for the story tellin'), and one at the factory.

Dana has done way more than his fare share of homecoming and other event coordinating; he deserves a year off. Since Sir Bomber has already graciously volunteered to map the ride routes, I nominate him for the job. : ] I'd even be willing to kick in a bottle of old Scotch if he agrees.

All in favor?

Sounds unanimous to me. : D

Just kidding Sir Bomber, if you aren't up for it, please don't feel the least bit obligated. I'm just trying to raise the mood here a bit. And I agree, the ladies of Brag have always been wonderful in my dealings with them, especially the time in Daytona when one of them advised that I check out BadWeatherBikers.com for more information. lol.

What type of okra dish goes best with Scotch I wonder. Hmmm...

Blake -- happy to do 25th (next year, 2008) --

i can also spin up some route maps for this year, if that'd be needed/requested --
Scotch always loubricates the works, but is in no way a requirement ;-}

I won't be atteneding 2007's homecoming -- the choice of dates is, in my mind, a little, er, ehem, loopy (4 July is big doin's in the midwest, and I'd rather spend it somewhere other than dodging campers, minivans, station wagons with dogs dragged from the rear bumper, lookee-loos (look, Racheal! there's a DAIRY FARM! -- slow down so I can get a pitcher of those cows!), and Hog Chapters practicing their Victor McLAGLEN Motor Corps Drill team Routines at half the posted limit)

;-}

Seriously though, I just got off the phone with Steve and from everyone's speculation of what they see and hear right now isn't sounding good enough to come to Wisconsin for 2007 Homecoming. Well I'd have to say Steve had some awesome things to tell me and the event should promise to be a great one. No I cannot release the details but there is no disappointments. This is going to be really good. Now everyone mark there calenders to be here. Things are yes running rather late but its getting done and with good fashion. Things should be out in the open in day's maybe even sooner.
