METALLICA!!! They have been around for about 24 years. They have a couple of albums that are all covers so I would get to hear some other bands music. I definately have to agree, it was the first thing I thought of... PLenty varied for me... I like Steve Earl too, , and Bomber, that east Texas redneck thing...perfect... I like alot of things actually... Just NOT cRAP, and, some country I dont like too much either, but I can tolerate it.. Chase} | ||

"Van Morrison is one of those artists that I know I have to listen to their new recordings a second time to fully get it." Sometimes his music is accessible, but sometimes you do have to listen a few times to appreciate it. 'Astral Weeks' took a few listens to appreciate, but 'Moondance' was great the very first time I heard it. Ironically, the song 'Moondance' is my least favorite from the album 'Moondance'. | ||

Charlie Christian . . . died at something like 28 with the title "only perfect guitar player to ever live". I hate to dispute your musical knowledge Court, but for that title I would have to say Robert Johnson....but who's counting eh? I keep thinking of others I could be marooned with...The Dead Kennedy's, I can listen to them for hours, Iggy Pop, Alice in Chains, U2, The Sunday's and Concrete Blonde..TOOL!!...just so many not to mention EVERY artist previously mentioned...this reminds me of the list on VH1 a few years back, but at least they were specific to smaller topics, but you only get THREE!! Van Morrison-I used to have a tape from the radio. It came from a live performance in New York I think. That was quite possibly the best live I have ever heard, had all of vans stuff-background girls, duet with a lady, and musical talent. Alas it got lost, traded, stolen, anyone know what I'm talking about and can point me in the right direction? I have about 6 others live but none are that one... | ||

Slade. There are far too many great reasons why, and I'm probably way out on my own in choosing them. My all time favourite band. Slade Alive 1972 can be bought on eBay for a dollar, or get the CD reissue for 10. Go buy a copy. Without doubt the best live album ever recorded. There exists no better version of Born To Be Wild. Noddy Holder is the greatest male vocalist ever, and a fantastic front man. The Band, absolutely fabulous. The Last Waltz is mesmerising every time, and my DVD copy is never far away from the player. Here's a heads up for ya. Check out Orson's CD. They're the best band out of America at the moment, and their vocal range is awesome backed up by so many different instrumental changes. Oh, and Jimi Hendrix because he is the best f**kin' guitar player that has ever lived. His music is still being used in TV commercials nearly 40 years after they were recorded. The test of good music is in part based on its ability to transcend time and generations. My boomer generation was the first that I know of in the history of civilization that has produced/directed and performed its own music. The previous generations have all been forced to accept their elder's music as their own, but not us! We dared to produce the "devil's own music", complete with gyrating hips and scantily clad dancers. Most all of the music that has been listed here comes from that generation that started it all...for a reason. I see teen aged girls walking around in the mall mouthing the words to Stones and Beatles songs that they know by heart. Timelessness. | ||

Road Thing - I hope that's nasty in a good way.  Depending on what kind of day it was when I had to make this "only listen to one band choice" but I like a little gravel in my music. Most everything I listen to has to pass two litmus tests... Does it tell a story? Can it be played on a porch? | ||

There are so many incredible artists, thank God I never have to choose just one. But, if I had to, it'd be Hendrix. I could and will listen to his stuff forever. From his better-than-Robert Johnson front porch acoustic "Hear My Train A'coming" to the brutality of "Machine Gun" to the science fiction caress of "1983, A Merman I Should Turn To Be". How could a guy in his 20's cover that range of emotion and stretch music so far with nothing but a freakin' guitar? Damn, why was he taken from us so young?! | ||

Yeah Spank it just not great quality and Summerfest is such a clusterfuck of place when you are there for one reason. It's like going to a grocery store for milk and bread. They have that at the two back corners knowing that your going to maybe spend another few buck's on the way back there. Its a Rip - Off !!! | ||

Ya, we usually just head for the Rock Stage and pretty much just hang out there all night. It's just BS getting to it from the bike parking lot. Anyway I guess my music picks would be a little more modern with Sevendust or Dark New Day as my choice. But I will second the Metallica! | ||

Great ones mentioned so far that I agree with...Earle, Slade, Metallica, etc. Close seconds for me would be between ZZ Top and Willie Nelson. But number one would have to be Lynyrd Skynyrd. Ronnie and the boys were true southern spirit thru and thru. Too bad most of them are dead now and only 2 original band members remain in the group. I can always put on Simple Man or I Know A Little and feel better about anything. They don't have a bad song as far as I'm concerned. And at a concert now, it'll give you chills to see Ronnie's hat on a mic stand under a spotlight at the beginning of Freebird....I don't care who ye are! Fly on Freebirds - Ronnie, Steve, Cassie, Alan, and Leon. | ||
