Mine best memory was from MBII, thrashing on U4euh's bike with a bunch of other Buellers after a he cleaned a ditch and tore it up. We were in the midst of stripping a new 9, thanks to Stone Mtn. Buell, to get a rear motor mount to get U4 back on the road. His bike was jacked up on a log in a state is disassembly. It's getting late, dark, and a little cold. We're at the T.W.O. so we have food and drink. There's a crowd around helping, telling jokes, giving advice, getting tools, getting drunk.... I look up and there's Erik Buell standing there, checking out the scene; big smile on his face. It was great! We got U4 going and had a fantastic weekend. That's just one of a great many good time memories riding and enjoying life at March Badness. Thanks 3%'s and Stone Mtn. Buell!

Here's Rubberdown (kneeling) and his buddy Pete working on the "donor" bike at MBII. We had a group of 5 or 6 people actively involved in the work and 10 or 20 more giving advice, fetching tools, etc. We never did figure out what the "factory approved" method for changing out that rear isolator is. It was near-impossible to get out.

Our theory is that the isolator is magnetically suspended in mid-air and the rest of the bike is assembled around it...

I loved it when Erik came over and said "you can't do that here, we need to get it to a shop", the look on his face when New12r used the log was priceless.
I don't have a favorite story, lots and lots of memories, lots of smiles and miles.
MB-I: Broke the 10 record for most demos.
Stealth customizing Black_sunshine's bike.
MB-II: Erik visits.
Parking lot motor mount install.
MB-III: Met the most BadWeBbers at one time.
Rode more miles than in any other MB, with more people.
MB-IV: Largest ever...

New12R,

How ARE you supposed to change that thing? I figure a new mount (i.e.- a mount not robbed off of another bike) must come disassembled so that you've got room to access the allen screws where it mounts to the top of the engine case. Then you install the rubber donuts and crimp it together?

Another pic from the MB II "let's fix U4euh's bike" session:

That's U4euh on the ground, with New12R on the far side and me behind U4euh watching. (There was only room for one set of hands in there at a time!) I think 3 hours of the ~4 hours it took to change the mount were spent getting ONE stinking allen screw out of the mount!

Glitch, even with the frame pulled, you still couldn't get at these bolts. The big rubber biscuits on the rear isolator partially block the tops of the allen screws that attach the mount to the top of the engine cases. I think we had 3 or 4 variously modified allen wrenches and some needle-nose vice-grips and one of them FINALLY managed to turn the bolts. It was a royal PITA.

Why is it that past adversity (overcome, of course) seems to make for the best stories?

The conversation with Erik Buell and him signing my bike was definitely the highlight of MBII for me.

I clearcoated it about 10 times.

Gentleman Jon's epic journey to T.W.O. for MBIII, only to have his bike fall on the trailer on the way was memorable. He broke some stuff, but still got to ride. Sorry Jon, I had to.
- Ratyson explaining that his Badweb name had nothing to do with rats was pretty funny too.
- I missed MBII cause I had a prior commitment to my Triumph car club that weekend. I'm still kicking myself.

Speaking of tools...do you mind if I ask what size allen wrench you need to adjust the four bolts that hold the bars the clamp on current XBs?

I guess one of my favorite stories is from MB-I.
Saturday morning before anyone is really stirring, a few of us set out for a morning run. After heading up 60, turning around and heading back, I notice there is no BadLuckXB, he had borrowed the yellow XB9S shop bike. I stop, and watch the other two riders go off into the distance. I have a bad feeling, so I turn around and head back up 60. There he is, but where's the bike? It's off the road. Check to make sure HardLuckXB is ok, and we check to see if we can get the bike back up the bank, it's a steep one, and I just had surgery on my left arm. What the hell, we give it a go. At an inch at a time, and a few slips we get the bike back up the hill, very little damage to the bike. We get back to TWO, check in, and it's time to do the demos. After MB is over, one of the guys that came for the demos, calls Clown and want to buy a bike. Clown tells him about the history of the bike and the guy gets a good deal, and a set of black plastics. The guy that bought the bike is none other than Black_sunshine, and the bike that went over the edge is the one he just parted out. HardLuckXB is no longer, he is StealthXB!

At one point we were about to give up, then I believe New12 told us to go inside and get some food, came back out and they were putting the final tightening on the last bolt.
This whole event had to be my favorite, specially after it happened and Erik came to sit beside me on the sofa at TWO and talk about what happened. It is pretty easy to say what happened after an accident, but after a long period you start to realize what the real culprit was.

Thanks again to all the 3%'s, clown, and even the demo truck driver, but I can't remember his name.

I missed MBII by a few weeks but I was able to meet a lot of the 3% anyway. My favorite story was actually the five days we spend at TWO with Buellish, Norbert, Jimidan, 1313 and that fire chief from New Orleans.

While we were there a group of two-stroke 500cc where there and I wanted to ride with them. We got back from a loop and everyone was ready to kick back but when I saw the 500cc bikes leave I suited up and set off up Wolf Pen Gap as quick as I could. I passed a few cars and bikes along the way and finally caught up to a straggler 500cc who too was running to catch up to the main crowd of about 20 bikes. Since the 500cc bike was strolling I decided to follow him as we approached the pass. Soon I see an R1 pulling along side of me. He and a FZ1 were two of the bikes I passed earlier. The R1 seemed like he wanted to play, but in the valley we were holding at about 100mph.

As we got into the pass the FZ1 fell out of sight almost immediately. The 500cc was leading, and I was following his pace, the R1 was falling off and then catching back up. As we reached the top, there was the main group of 500cc pulled off to the side. The 500cc in front of me waved me off and the R1 and I continued down the other side. I thought he wanted to go, so I set a heavy pace. I was not paying attention to the R1 since I was preoccupied with what was ahead me. As I came down and into sight of the water station I looked back and noticed the R1 was gone. I slowed down and pulled into the Water Station. I waited a minute and thought to myself, "man, he went off." I started to turn around and there he was coming down into sight. I stayed on the side of the road looking at him and as he passed, I waved. He did not, looking straight forward like I was not there. I guess he got his feelings hurt.

As I turned around heading back to TWO, the group of 500cc were still there. They must have seen enough to know I dusted the R1. All twenty some riders gave me the thumbs up as I went by. Still my favorite story and help lick the wounds from the earlier run where Norbert on a stock S2 ran me down from a 1/2 mile back like it was nothing. It was a humbling experience to be caught by a bike with 68hp.

The very first 'Buell' ride I ever went to, it was Buellish that led the group. We rode at a pretty sedate pace until the afternoon, when everyone broke of into smaller groups. It became quite a ride with a few eye-opening moments... most of which would sound like exaggerations in retrospect.

That was 7 years ago.

Ahhh, we need one of those to finish stripping Black_sunshine's bike! Do you also have the huge socket we need to get the front sprocket off? I think it's 1-15/16", but it might be 1-7/8".

> do you mind if I ask what size allen wrench you need to adjust the four bolts that hold the bars the clamp on current XBs

1/4"
