It was a great success, at least from my point of view. What was really cool is that I won best S1 and it was unanimous, I only held the ballot box for a short while Al! Thanks Al and Barb for a great time. next year I plan on having at least 5 more bikes show up, we'll see. From those from Bakersfield, THANKS AGAIN. Very good time. I appreciate all of the hard work, and the great hospitality. the ride over from phoenix was fine, except for the la traffic, but I got to hit the 101 along the ocean at sunset. Great ride. 535 plus miles the vintage motorcycle museum was cool, the city, and the location of the bbq. Great spot. great riding. the ride back to phoenix. perfect, maybe..ahahhaha. Up and on the road by 4:45 am. the moon and stars werre peaking out from the marine layer and the rain clouds. around pasadena the rain started and rained pretty good and was cold till palm springs. there it cleared up and was nice the entire way. the buell m2 ran great. super bike, great sound. butt got tired after 150 miles at a time though..ahaha. the m2's six speed and the gearing is set for 3,000 rpm at 80 mph....runs so smooooooooooth, you would think you were on a gold wing...ahaha. thanks for a great time. Yes, once again, the American Sport Bike BBQ drew an impressive crowd of fine machines and people from all over. I had a great time, and camping at Jalama Beach was beautiful, we had clear skies and every star in the sky was visible both nights, even as it rained just a few miles inland. I went on the "long" ride and was especially impressed by the riding skills exhibited by the women in our lead pack of the overall group. It is always encouraging to see the ladies participating in the sport and further to excel as these clearly did. I met a lot of very nice people, got to help a fellow Bueller with an electrical gremlin, (missed the actual BBQ but the brownies were AWESOME) exchanged a few phone numbers and came away feeling all warm and fuzzy about the entire experience. Buellton gets my vote as next year's American Sport Bike BBQ destination, I can't think of a more perfect location. I cannot stop singing the praises of the patron saints of Buell, Al and Joanne Lighton. This event is something the likes of which I have never seen presented by any other retailer. Nowhere else can you find such a generous outpouring of time, effort, and money to bring our community together. Hats off and three cheers for the dynamic duo, the saviours of the race (pun intended). Having said that, does anyone have an update on our crash victims? Espcially the woman who was hospitalized. Did the bike get picked up from the tow yard? Did she make it home and will she and the bike fully recover? I know there were a few crashes or mishaps besides that one, can anyone give updates? Next year, PLEASE remember to check the Willow Springs race schedule. Would have been a half dozen more of us on the ride! WSMC is alway the 3rd SUNDAY - not the 3rd WEEKEND. This month had Sunday on the 1st. Really hated to miss the ride and meeting some new folks. Glad you all had a good time - though it sounds like there may have been a tip-over. | ||

We'll get the date right next year...I thought we had the right weekend this year, the 1st being a sunday screwed it up. The weather could have been better Friday, but it was great on Saturday for the rides and the BBQ. Not a drop fell on us. We had a few incidents....Danny had a slow fall on the hail up on Cerro Noroeste, beat up his S3 (the expensive side  ) a bit, and his thumb dislocated. He rode the 100 miles to Buellton in the rain afterwards, though. A couple on a Uly had an offroad excursion on the trip down from the Bay area, but they continued on, trailered it home. Samantha from Vegas went wide on a corner on the long ride, got a concussion and an overnite stay in a hospital, but the word I heard from Brian from Vegas is that they didn't think any bones were broken. Another Firebolt rider overshot a corner and had to have his bike trucked off the hill, but he was apparently fine. The only other incident was a dead stator, but Matt and Mike swapped batteries so that Mike could drive his bike home to Santa Barbara. With all the rain over the previous day, there was crap on the roads here and there. That no one else had any incidents is testament to the skill of the riders. I know the group on the "short" ride was cooking pretty good and had no incidents. The ride leaders (Marck and Brett) did a great job of keeping the pack together and making sure that no one was left alone or behind without the proper support. The routes they picked covered some very cool roads. The bar was excellent, Firestone Reserve is excellent and is only served on the premesis. We closed the place both nights, not that that was to hard since they're only officially open until 10, but they stayed open a little later for us. We had 115+ RSVPs, but only about 70 folks showed up due to the weather. It was still quite the success and I think the format of having it in a place like Buellton worked well. Al | ||

Al - apologies if I sounded whiney - wasn't the case! We had a good day racing but missing the American Sport Bike annual event was a bummer. Really glad that it was a good turnout despite the way the weather looked on Saturday. Next year we'll be there! | ||

Hi its Samantha! The girl who "went wide." I am doing ok. I have a broken wrist, and a lot of bumps, bruises, and scrapes. I am back home in Vegas recuperating. My bike is being evaluated by insurance, but is more than likely totaled. Besides the accident, the ride was GREAT! I am sorry I missed the BBQ. hopefully next year I will be able to enjoy it all! Thanks to Mark for an awesome job leading, and a special thanks to John, for climbing down a 30 foot bank to watch over me until the ambulance could get there. First off, thanks to the American Sport Bike folks for putting on a great gathering! Many thanks to Terry, Kurt, Joyce, Keith, and Jim for helping out Robin and I after our unfortunate tumble on Santa Maria. It really was friday the 13th. Robin's ankle it still swollen, she hates to sit down and do nothing, so it hasn't got as much icing as it should. I'm working on that. In spite of the mishap, we both had a good time meeting friendly folks and gawking at v-twins. Next year I'll try the Santa Maria again, and the story will be a different one, though it was nice to win best ride tale! | ||

OK - heres what happened - Scott and I chaised in a car by my fiance Illiena and Kublia where cruising up the coast - passed Moss Beach around 9:45 - got to Cambria just as it started to rain - no big deal, however, at the gas station Scott pulls up past my bike to get under cover and notices that the bearing cover is off and we figure 3 bearings already gone - so ends my trip to Buellton and a fun weekend - I hope the Fresno Dealership is good - they are putting in the new bearings - will pick up next week - sorry to miss the event - GT - JBOTDS! EZ  | ||

Really enjoyed the event, the people, the ride - thanks to Al & Barb. Looking forward to next year. This is my first Buell (2006 XB12Ss) and Buell event - thankfully nothing like GoldWing shindigs - don't think I could handle another poker-run. Went on the "short ride" 115 miles in about one hour. Learned I could no longer ride in the front of the pack - getting slower with the years - also out of practice since moving from Mariposa, CA (Sierra Mountains) to the Nevada desert a few years ago - no curves in the desert - tires wear flat, U-turns are a big deal. Again - really had a great time. Won a tank saver at the drawing - What's a "tank saver"?? - love my buell - just wish I would have buellized a few years ago. Gotta go order me a new pipe now - my stocker needs a little more soul. | ||

I suspect the latter  Anyway Paul, no worries - glad you had a good time at the BBQ. Joanne PS. Speaking of pipes... As Laurie, Zach, and I were driving along 405 (I think it was) in the truck, we were in the (mostly stopped) fast lane. A rider came up from behind, lane-splitting, and I didn't hear him. He tooted his horn, but I couldn't immediately locate where the sound was coming from, as he was in my blind spot by that time. Took me a couple of seconds to realize he was there, and then of course I gave him as much room as I could (sometimes the left gutter has quite a bit of debris, and you can't move over immediately). In any case, about an hour later, in similar circumstances (slow traffic), another couple of riders came up from behind. In this case, I KNEW they were coming up long before they were there because of the deep throaty rumble of a Micron pipe. Not an obnoxious sound at all, but one that I could actually hear before they were on top of me. I recognized Al and Tom (cause that's who it was coming up from behind) even before they recognized us. My point is, having a pipe that can be heard can be a safely item, especially in LA traffic. I think some pipes carry the idea of "loud pipes save lives" a bit too far, but the Micron sounds good to my ear! Joanne | ||

It was my absolute pleasure to help out a brother Bueller, and I made a new friend in the process. Mike is a very cool guy, I'm glad to know him. I had so many tools on board I had to add two clicks of preload to the rear shock, but in the end I'm glad all I needed was a screwdriver and my battery. Next year maybe add a prize for best tool kit?  Samantha, I'm sincerely thankful that your injuries were not much more serious. I was worried about you all day, with information being very scarce. Glad to hear you're on the mend, shame about your bike though. Hope to see you next year. To everyone else I met, it was great riding with you all. Looking forward to doing it again. Beach camping rules! Me and Phil from Santa Clara had fun swapping stories around the campfire over tequila shots and beers. I'll be going back to Jalama Beach at my earliest opportunity. Ezblast Fresno HD is excellent. If it is the same service manager, he used to ride a Buell. I broke down up that way last year and those guys bent over backward to help me. It was far and away the best HD dealer experience I've ever had. | ||

Kim and I had a great time meeting and riding with all of you, new and old friends. The short ride was a lot of fun.  As always Al and Joanne were great! For that matter so was everyone else too, good day or bad. I've never been to a Badweb or Buell event that wasn't that way. Says a lot about the people who hang around this board and these bikes. Thanks to everyone! Oh, and not everyone from Bakersfield is as quiet and unassuming as Wayne!   He's just shy cause his bike is a slower color! Black's faster!
